Fredro Starr Explains Layzie Bone Collaboration Album

Onyx’s Fredro Starr announced last month plans to record an album with Bone Thugs-N-Harmony member Layzie Bone. Starr, who has known Layzie since both started their careers over 20 years ago, explained how the collaboration came about.

“Me and Layzie hooked up because we came out around the same time in the ’90s,” he explained, adding that they’d also lost their mentors Jam Master Jay and Eazy E respectively. “Every time I’d see Bone Thugs, it was always a competitive thing because rap is like basketball. It’s a competition.”

He said friend Maybach Dice visited the studio one day with Layzie, prompting the two to recorded one record, “Going In For the Kill” which eventually evolved into an EP and then a full album, titled Fire Squad.

“Me and Layzie always had respect for each other…he was always cool with me,” Starr said. The album is set for a 2012 release date.
