With the 2021 NBA Finals well underway, Freddie Gibbs teamed up with Genius and ESPN to spit an exclusive freestyle based around the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks.
The Indiana-bred rapper posted the freestyle ahead of Game 3 of the series on Sunday (July 11), with his bars referencing star players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton, Khris Middleton and Jrue Holiday .
“Hit the perimeter, then we shook ’em like Devin Booker,” Gibbs raps. “Line it up, we ’bout to get lit after the tip/Either way it go, we ’bout to see Chris/Khris get to the chip/Which Chris/Khris, Paul or the Middleton?/Jrue a play for the Holiday, bet they remember him/PJ Tucker in the corner, man, you can’t ignore him.”
Freddie Gibbs is no stranger to NBA-related songs, with songs like “Giannis” off Bandana and Piñata tracks “Lakers” and “Knicks” showcasing his love of basketball. History suggests there could be even more on his new album, Soul Sold Separately, which he says will be a “classic.”
“Soul Sold Separately, that’s my motherfucking all fresh shit,” he said. “The new album is going to be crazy. This is probably going to be the best album I did. I think this one. I think ever since Piñata, I’ve been dropping classic albums, so I’m not going to stop right there. You know what I’m saying?”
He continued, “Piñata, classic. Bandana was a classic. Alfredo is a classic. SSS, going to be the same thing. I leveled up on his album. It’s going to be more features. It’s a little more sauce on this one I would say. Alfredo, that was just me rapping with…shit, I barely wrote a fucking hook on Alfredo. I was just showing n-ggas they can’t rap better than me.”
Aside from music, Freddie Gibbs is currently at the Cannes Film Festival in France promoting his upcoming feature film, Down With the King.
Freddie’s music been boring for a while now. Only classic was BFK
Not sure if you’re trolling, but what’s the last album you listened to? I’ve been a fan of Freddie since I heard him on .38 (TM 103).
He definitely trolling
I disagree i think he got better after bfk. I have a feeling there’s a chance this upcoming album could possibly be not as good cuz Gibbs is with diddy and acting, which is all fine and good for him but his music might sound more mainstream if he’s trying to cater to a wider audience.
How can we call it an upcoming classic lol
That freestyle was NOT good lmmfao. It was mediocre at best and that’s a reach…. Was the Chris/Khris thing supposed to be impressive? And he used it twice within 4 bars. Lame af. Still better than me though lol
Upcoming classic lol. Yet another media hyped hack. They tell people what to think and the people simply parrot it back.
