The D.O.C. suffered a catastrophic injury to his throat in 1989, rendering him unable to speak for what felt like forever. But before the life-altering incident, he’d just released his debut solo album No One Can Do It Better with the track “Mind Blowin’ (Remix),” a song that apparently left Eminem tongue-tied.
On Wednesday (June 8), Eminem uploaded a video snippet from the forthcoming documentary The DOC, which does a deep dive into the journey of the West Coast Hip Hop legend. In the clip, Slim Shady is baffled by a particular line in the “Mind Blowin’ (Remix)” and needs to call on The D.O.C. to finish the verse.
“He was doing things that nobody else had done yet,” Eminem begins. “Just lyrically like mind-blowing. On ‘Mind Blowin,’ he was like, ‘The DOC is dope/I would’ve been down with rock but I’d be broke/By the punk, I’m opening up my trunk/To reveal, death, living it up, my life is like a story/Yelling it, ‘cause nobody else is telling it/Checking it, always getting paid ’cause the rap is sort of like a twist/Between what you needed and what I mean…’
That’s when Eminem stops rapping and tells the producer to go get The D.O.C. who soon enters the frame to complete the verse.
“Wait, I need him,” Shady continues. “I gotta ask him what he said on this part. On this one part, I never understood it like I couldn’t make out exactly what it was. ‘The DOC is dope/I would’ve been down with rock but I’d be broke/By the punk, I’m opening up my trunk/To reveal, death, living it up, my life is like a story/Yelling it, ‘cause nobody else is telling it/Checking it, always getting paid ’cause the rap is sort of like a twist/Between what you needed and what I mean by twist, now you gotta listen.'”
He asks, “What the fuck was that right there?” to which The D.O.C. raps, “Never a segment in negative ‘cause I’m employing what you’ve been missing.”
Eminem, clearly impressed, says, “How the fuck did you say that shit? God damn.” The D.O.C. humbly replies, “I don’t know. It just came out.”
The D.O.C. will be in New York City this month to premiere The DOC film. The screening takes place at the Tribeca Film Festival beginning June 10. Until then, watch the clip above and check back with HipHopDX soon for an interview with The D.O.C.
this why that culture vulture bullshit dont fly with Eminem. he constantly proves that he is a student and loves the culture.
?
em is the biggest culture vulture sellout in hip hop history. he hates his own skin color. the amount of virtue signaling he puts out is nauseating. he’s battling Osario Cortez for the prize of biggest social justice warrior lmao
I have also noticed that extra amount of virtue signaling from Eminem lately. -Nobody
i truly believe if his accident didnt happened, he would be a top 3 emcee easily
Exactly what I always say. When I heard his debut I was like holy shit!!!
And nowadays younger people don’t even know him anymore. It’s a shame..
Docs album is incredible. Dre beats on there is incredible. Would definetly been top 3 goat if he was able to make more music.
GET THIS DIRTBAG KRACKER OUT OF HIP HOP NOW!
Been hearing that for 24 years. Not happening. He’s evolved to the best. Why scream his name to get out of music? That’s seems personal. Need to show respect on the man’s name. He’s earned it.
Never. He’s the best rapper and you are just
another have not jealous of another man’s success. You need to worry about catching another shift at Walmart.
I hardly seen anyone in hip-hop take wordplay so serious as Eminem the way he does. Probably less than 10 artists total be like that. D.O.C figured that shit out early on.
That’s because Eminem is a fuckin nerd. He’s not gangsta, he’s a fuckin nerd. He collects toys and comic books and shit, can you believe that, a grown ass man collecting toys. What a fuckin corny ass goofball. Also let us not forget he is a cuckold.
Collecting toys and comic books isn’t corny. It’s dope.
On the other hand, being “gangsta” is corny af. And so is this Angry Black Brother dweeb.
Em was spitting the verse just like the DOC. Very impressive.
Light years ahead of his time lyrically! Some of Dr. Dre’s greatest production was done on the album. He was the blueprint for Jay-z. If you listen to how Em and Kendrick structure their stuff then you will clearly hear the D.O.C’s influence.
Just because Eminem is a corny ass goofball doesn’t mean he’s not a cuck also.
