Erykah Badu has been captivating fans with her music for years, and now she’s bringing her talents to the big screen.
Variety reports that the “On & On” singer-songwriter (real name Erica Abi Wright) is expected to make a cameo in the upcoming Netflix adaptation of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson.

Badu’s cameo will see her delivering “her soulful sound and eclectic style” with musical performances in the film.
Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington (“BlacKkKlansman,” “Malcom & Marie,” “Tenet”), will star in the film — both reprising their roles from the popular Broadway revival of Wilson’s play.

Per the description, The Piano Lesson is set in 1936 Pittsburgh during the aftermath of the Great Depression and follows the lives of the Charles family, a household led by Doaker Charles (Jackson), and an heirloom, the family piano, which is decorated with designs carved by an enslaved ancestor. Washington plays Boy Willie, Doaker’s nephew, a role Jackson originated in the 1987 production.
The film also stars Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Rebel Moon), Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Harder They Fall), Michael Potts (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Rustin) and Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton, The Tragedy of Macbeth).

Todd Black and Denzel Washington, who is also John David’s father, are producers on the film. Other executive producers include Constanza Romero, Jennifer Roth and Katia Washington.
It seems like Erykah Badu has been on a roll lately. Apart from landing this new role, she’s set to embark on a 25-city tour of the United States with Yasiin Bey.
The tour, which kicks off on June 11, is called the Unfollow Me tour and will commence at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, TX. It will conclude on July 23 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX.
