Eminem’s “ShadyXV” Album Slammed By Tyler, The Creator

Odd Future lyricist Tyler, The Creator didn’t hesitate in sharing his thoughts on the newly-released ShadyXV album, this week. Tyler called the album “ass” in a tweet, which read:

“I love you Marshall, you are my favorite rapper but dude ShadyXV is fucking ASS hahaha why wont someone who loves him tell him NO.”

The Ladera, Heights California rapper later deleted his tweet after informing fans of his plans to “delete everything.”
The Shady Records compilation album was released on November 24 and features a variety of artists from the Eminem and Paul Rosenberg-led label. Its release falls on the 15th anniversary of Shady Records.

Among the artists featured on ShadyXV are Eminem, Yelawolf, D12, Slaughterhouse, 50 Cent, and Obie Trice.

Earlier this week, it was reported that ShadyXV was projected to sell between 140,000 and 150,000 copies in its first week.

    2. i find it very weak of tyler to publicly slam the album like this after Em took Odd Future to London and let them open up for them at Wembley which was the biggest show they will ever play…

      1. So basically he should be a dick rider, instead of being real about his opinions? Tyler is a pussy when it comes to beef, but if music sucks, it sucks. No matter how much someone helps you out.

      2. no one said he had to dickride but why does he gotta publicly trash it? cant he keep his irrelevant opinions to himself when speaking on his fucking idol who took him on tour?

      3. He does this to everybody, not to this extent but he’s been critical Kanye and Pusha before, and he idolizes them also.

    3. He aint lying tho. I listened to it once..and kept it moving. This is just bad. Em spits a million words a second. Plus he raps about nonsense. It’s annoying

and its coming from someone who thinks Em is top 5 rapper ever.

    4. Some of these tracks man… they’re scary good.. Eminem’s rhymes are insane.. it will take a very long time to be able to rehears anything he says now days.. his rhymes got really, really technical.. like puzzles man… Im loving it. the tracks “ShadyXV” “Right for Me” and “Psychopath Killer” are a few of my favs of all time. Now Tyler the Creator? eh

      1. That’s exactly it though. I’m a huge Em fan but this mentality of “I need to prove in every song i’m the greatest technical rapper” needs to stop. We get it, everyone gets it. Em is one of…if not THE best emcee to do it. But where’s the fun stuff at like “I’m Shady”? Where’s the “Stan” story telling tracks, where’s the “I’m Back” kinda tracks, “I still don’t give a fuck” etc…

    5. If SHADYXV was ass than mmlp2 was complete donkey shit…. Anybody complaining about this album yet thought that mmlp2 was good should stop listining to hip hop

    6. Shadyxv is the mother fucking shit, Psychopathic killer is 10/10 the song shadyxv is fucking randomness which is what everyone wanted from em so it gets a 9/10 (dont be a dumbass all you can do is agree) the songs Fine line, Die alone, and twisted are the best slow songs ever from Em. just break them down and pay attenion to them, b/c now hes at a point in his career where he has to go harder then possible (always double timing) take it easy on the man who has said EVERYTHING.

      1. Once day you have to stop dick riding and admit the truth. Eminem was indeed the weak part on ShadyXV unfourtunately. He completeley ruined Psycopath Killer and Detroit vs Everybody with that god awful delivery and voice. Stop denying it.

Fine line could have been so much greater, but his awful flow and annoying voice started giving me a headache. It seems like EM completely forgot how to ride a beat and lay a pleasing verse. Not just a bunch of complicated words squished together. He just sounds off.

Finally someone has the guts to tell the truth. Eminem is probably surrounded with a bunch of YES men who are afraid to tell him the truth when his verse sucks or his song is shit. Someone needs to fuckin tell him. No one is perfect and it’s always good to have a second opinion. But with all the ass lickers surrounding Eminem, no one dares to tell him, “dude, this is complete garbage” or “can you fuckin flow with the beat”?.

      2. lol hip hop has the worst fans.

Some of the tracks on MMLP were of him not even riding the beats 90% of the time, but y’all wanna point this out like it’s something new lol.

    7. The only one who is ass is Tyler. MTV and the rest of the machine and everyone else has been trying to force their “crossover (i.e. niggas acting like white boys)” act up for years and they still haven’t blown up. Fuck Tyler, BOB, Kid Cudi and all the rest of these fake hippie ass niggas. At least Eminem is the genuine article.

    8. shady xv is pretty bad, eminem even ruins Psychopathic killer, just leave it to crook and royce. i wanted more slaughterhouse. it doesnt matter there are complete dick riders who dont understand hip hop and just think eminem is the best.

      1. Finally someone who thinks the same. Psycopath killer was a dope fuckin track until Eminem’s part came along and he ruined the whole thing with that awfuk shitty flow. Same thing with the rest of the songs he’s on, his delivery is atrocious.

    9. lol apparently people like songs and verses full of punchlines and metaphors in them. Forget the substance and the creativity an artist can do because it’s the “fans” that decide what’s good and what’s bad now.

      1. No, I love creativity and substance in Hip-Hop verses, but the difference between “Criminal” or “My Dad’s Gone Crazy” or even “Rainman;” they don’t sound forced, just completely natural. It seems like today, Eminem is forcing things. He needs to take a breather and let the flow come naturally.

      2. ^This right there is what i keep tryng to say. Eminem needs to chill the fuck out and go with the flow. All his material nowadays seems forced

    10. Finally someone has the guts to tell the truth. Eminem is probably surrounded with a bunch of YES men who are afraid to tell him when his verse sucks or his song is shit. Someone needs to fuckin tell him. No one is perfect and it’s always good to have a second opinion. But with all the ass lickers surrounding Eminem, no one dares to tell him, “dude, this is complete garbage” or “can you fuckin flow with the beat”?.

Eminem needs to be re-taught what is dope and whats fuckin garbarge.

He just sounds off on almost every track.

    12. Tylers last album wasn’t worth a f#@!k on its best day, dude can hate all he wants and it still wont do any justice on how horrible that CD was.

    13. Lost a lot of respect for Tyler .. Considered him to be a True Musician .. Just like all Eminem albums, people won’t understand for a few years .. No one on this entire planet can do what Eminem is doing with words and there’s a method to the madness — I promise you that .. There’s harmony in the flow that people can’t accept .. Not to mention it’s the natural progression for someone like Eminem whose Celebrity status has kept him completely away from a normal life .. Fine Line is an incredible tune and even Right For Me has grown on me .. Anyone hating on this — needs to smoke a blunt, put on some sicck headphones and just LISTEN without feeling so inclined to voice your own opinion .. Eminem and Shady Records are preserving HIP HOP and RAP forever .. Done with Tyler now .. Eminem shouldn’t have taken his punk ass to Wembley

    14. Eminem has turned to garbage! He used to be amazing with his first two albums “Slim Shady LP” & “Marshall Mathers LP”, but everything afterwards sucks with a few gems here and there. Ever since he stopped rapping about drugs, current events, violence and utilizing creative delivery, he fell off. Now he relies on lame hooks done by artists that he would have made fun of in his early days(cough cough Rhianna and other radio friendly pop artists) and none of his verses have any substance anymore. Seems like he just makes up his own words, like George Bush did, ha ha. It’s sad, but he couldn’t spit a creative freestyle to save his life, just whack-ass written verses that don’t even make sense half the time. Even though all of his freestyles he’s ever spit were written verses from songs he released, at least they use to have creativity. Get back on the drugs Eminem and make fun of pop culture, instead of being the walking joke!

      1. you want this nigga to get bak on drugs and fuck his life up just for you??? gtfo plus eminem show recovery and bad meets evil were dope albums and legacy on MMLP2 is better then half these swag fags whole albums

      2. I agree with big l except the getting back on drugs shit but he’s right any one that’s been a fan has noticed he’s not as good as he used to be. The first two albums were dope but after that his rhymes have slipped the next two albums were underwhelming the Eminem show was mediocre and re-up was flat as day old brew. Bad meets evil highly anticipated but severely disappointing it was like a movie sequel that should’ve been made years ago(cough cough sin city 2) it had a couple songs on there but the chemistry between the two is gone they should’ve dropped that album years ago when the both had some flare Royce album is better than this shit he has out now. Em is still one of the best lyricist to ever touch a mic but he needs to take it back to the roots when it comes to making albums I don’t know if he slacked because he expected 50 to carry shady’s weight or what but he just lost it.

    15. I said this shit as soon as I was a few songs in. Eminem couldn’t rap to the beat at all. He was smashing out the syllables and complicated rhymes….off beat. Which I also said reminds me of RA the Rugged Man. He’s trying so hard to be that Rap God that he forgot he has natural talent. Oh and for the record “Y’all Ready Know” is easily the best cut on the album. Slaughterhouse for the win

    16. I didn’t even like the new Eminem album, just so surprised Tyler would be the one saying something. We’ll sooner find Jimmy Hoffa than find out how a song as shitty as HER was created. Tyler done created a song that sounds like someone taking a shit; literally.

    17. Shit, D12 make Odd Future look like the fucking Brady Bunch. I can’t get over this article LOL, I don’t even like Eminem’s new album and I can’t stop laughing at this article, I honestly checked the calendar and thought it was a joke. HIPHOPDX.COM thank you so much you made my day :).

      1. Bruh, you are a faggot. You posted 5 comments about this shit, saying how you’re not an Eminem fan, yet you’re still defending him. Get his dick out of your mouth. Queer.

    18. Finally one has the nerve to say it out loud. MMLP2 and Shady XV are among Eminem’s worst albums. Stop trying to out-rap everyone, throw the rock tracks away and get some real hip hop beats and stay away from hooks. Em is just trying to do too much all by himself.

    19. Fuck this niggas opinion. This album is real hiphop, but people still complain. It’s not even an Em album, it’s an compilation album! Oh and if you’re up to support more real hiphop go cop “PRhyme” by Royce Da 5’9 and Dj Preemo!

    20. this guy always starting shit hopsin killed him he didn’t say shit about that then rah digga killed him real bad he comes back says im sorry like little bitch Eminem would end his career come on you fans jump on bandwagon when he got his deal with dre because back in underground this how he rap check his old battles on youtube real fans don’t hate this shit because this kind style got him notice I don’t look listen to people comments I could give two fucks what you retards think

    23. I haven’t listened, but he probably has a point if it so happens shit is like MMLP2 or Relapse, which were extremely disappointing except for a few tracks.

To me Recovery and a lot of the features released around that time (Despicable, Forever, Drop the World, AirPlanes II) was truly Eminem back in rare form back during MMLP, Eminem Show, 8 Mile.

    24. I think i speak for all of Eminems fans who are in the 25-30 yr old age group. By the time he dropped “The Eminem Show” he was the most amazing jewel in hip hop history. Every song on every album to this point was not only listenable, but rewindable. Most of us were even digging through the internet to any unreleased freestyles or underground tracks that we could find and rip to our computers. When lose yourself and the movie dropped, he was the biggest idol in the music industry. He was on par with Michael Jackson, Elvis, and Tupac. But then something happened. He dropped Encore. The rhymes were gone. The passion was lacking. He just wasn’t the same Marshall. And, every since then we have all anxiously awaited his every new song, hoping that we will hear the fire that we once heard years ago. But it has been disappointment after disappointment for 10 straight years now. Right?

      1. I see what you mean. Em himself talks about it in Guts Over Fear that he does not have anything to rap about anymore and he is afraid of running out of emotions to pull from.

Those days you mention were his glory days. But an artist rarely is able to keep that greatness going for a long time.

Em has evolved. His music is still one of the best in hiphop. His rhyming has gotten technically better even as his content has suffered.

Yet I think he still makes great music, just not as great as in his heyday.

      2. all you’re doing is admitting that you were/are the white rapper’s stan, not a hip hop fan. Marshall’s music doesn’t age well and his ORIGINAL stans are having the magical “great white hype” dust wear off. Just wait 5-7 years from now and how you don’t even listen to his music anymore. But we’ll have plenty of Nas, JayZ, DMX, Outkast, 3 6 Mafia, Snoop, Pharrell, MOP, Mobb Deep music that YOU missed out on because you wanted to be the best white rapper fan ever, NOT a hip hop fan. Goodbye

      3. Couldn’t agree more. I’m right in the tail end of that age range and I know exactly how you’ve felt the last decade, which is how long its been since he’s put out an album with replay value. The first three were all gems surrounded in controversy, and although everyone in high school was bumping him, the industry was too concerned with who he was offending, so he didn’t get his recognition for years afterwards, but everyone knew he was a problem. Those three albums, the first d12 record, and the movie soundtrack all retained replay value for years, and a good portion still has replay value imo. I just got bored on his voice actually, he’s rapped it all, nothing new to tell, and although he’s one of the best if not the best technicians, I’d rather hear quality material with replay value than technical ability. He’s catering to a different audience now and that’s ok, I was at the perfect age for the best years of his career and got to enjoy it.

In comparison DMX’s career took a similar line with similar results. First 3 albums were absolute fire, and I still bump them when in the mood, retained their replay value for 15 years, not bad. X, Em, Lauryn Hill, Fugees, and Wu tang all my fav’s but father time caught up with all of em. It’s harder to continually find new artists to maintain an interest in hip hop, but Kendrick is the flicker of hope, along with Krit.

      4. replying to laughable,

no your wrong in that sense,
I agree with heat, Eminem back in the days was so sick, even the radio freestyles were on point, like the ‘met a retarded kid named greg, stuff,,

and that’s coming from a genuine hiphop fan, that likes stuff from reasonable doubt, illmatic, cormega, tragedy, cnn, big pun, gangstarr, epmd, redman, etc etc,

      5. SSLP 9/10, MMLP 10/10, Eminem Show 9.5/10, Encore 8.5/10. Em peaked at MMLP and hasn’t been able to get to form. Encore was nice and I might be one of the few that liked Relapse. Relapse was real spotty lyrically but Em dropped a few gems and the production was super on point. Everything he has dropped since Recovery has been hot garbage. Recovery was terrible, MMLP2 was decent at best, ShadyXV is trash.
It’s a damn shame that Em knows he has a formula and motherfuckers will still buy the shit no matter what. Why is Royce dropping a full album with Primo? Can you imagine Em behind some DJ Premier, Yeezy, No ID, or obviously DRE and/or the BASS BROTHERS for the whole album? Em’s production is marginal at best and he would be a beast if he ever decided to drop another concept album ala SSLP. Oh well.

      1. Lol Eminem is washed up. Period. If you need to let a song fuckin grow on you, it’s most likely because the song isn’t very good. Stop forcing yourself to like all his material and admit a garbage song when you hear one. And for fuck sakes, quit dick riding. ShadyXV is not complete trash, it has some good points. But like it or not Eminem’s flow is totally off and there is nothing to understand you moron. It’s just terrible. Just listen to Crooked I on Psycopath killer, then listen to EM’s atrocious delivery…

      2. “harmony in the flow that people can’t accept”… Bitch fuck outta here. There is nothing to understand or accept. Eminem sounds bad on there, period. His flow and delivery is bad and almost cringe worthy at certain points. I’m sorry, but he completely ruined Psycopath Killer for me. Which was a great fuckin song. So dissapointing especially since slaughterhouse and Yelwolf were both dope. Get Eminems fuckin dick out your mouth and admit when he’s wack.

      3. @ff .. If a song or album doesn’t grow on you, then you are really just looking for a Pop song .. or something that you are already familiar with so that you get that Instant Gratification .. Anything that is New, Unfamiliar or Different, should take time to process, understand and appreciate .. Which is fine if that’s what you like .. I look to Music to challenge my thinking and elevate .. And I actually really f’ing dig this new Eminem flow .. and I am not a Stan .. If you put Eminem’s entire catalog in perspective, it makes sense Why his Artistry has brought him to this “off beat flow”, which actually carries it’s own Harmony if you turn off the natural inclination to react as if your or my opinion actually means ish

      4. @popo You saying “period” is what’s hilarious .. 150,000+ people disagree with you in 1 week .. Eminem is the most popular Musician in the WORLD .. Your opinion is your opinion and that’s fine, but you thinking you are stating a Fact is laughable .. Maybe just try and humble yourself, roll up a blunt and just listen .. Maybe even put up RapGenius and try to even recite 3 lines from any of the Eminem ShadyXV tracks .. It’s near IMPOSSIBLE to do it .. And I think it’s dope to see Rap being pushed to this point — Em is like an algorithm robot yet he’s a f’ing human being .. Unreal

      5. TruthHurts, you made some good points in your second to last post. I’m Not arguing his technical skills. I agree, his rhymes are even more complex nowadays than a lot of earlier work. The thing is, a good rap song isn’t all about the lyrics. It’s also about sounding enjoyable to the ear. The delivery and the way it is supposed to match with a beat is a big part of what makes a song enjoyable to listen to. And I and many people i’m sure are not a fan of how he sounds nowadays in a lot of those songs nowadays. I don’t thinks it’s intended or done on purpose. I’m more inclined to believe he is too focused on being so technical and starts to lack the ability to just chill and go with the natural flow of the song.

      6. @ ff .. Totally feel you on that .. But I think that’s where Yelawolf comes in .. That guy is a songwriter like the Hip Hop world has never seen .. I am 100% a Yelawolf stan .. I stumbled into a Live Show in 2011 and it pretty much changed my whole Musical life .. we are going to see nothing but Classic Music from him going forward .. And I think that’s why this new Eminem flow should be put into context of all that Shady Records is doing .. The fact that Eminem can still compose records with this ridiculous flow is actually pretty damn dope .. There are others to fill the gaps of the Songs and Flows that people crave, but no one else can do what Em has done in MMLP2 and now ShadyXV .. But I hear you man .. Maybe he is so out of touch .. but I think that’s also why this makes sense — he is out of touch .. He even Raps about it on “Fine Line” 3rd Verse how he just wants to browse at Target lol .. His Fame has kept him locked up and all he is able to do is keep honing the technicality of his craft .. It’s always genuine with Eminem .. but man .. Shady Records as a business is like nothing else — from the things they do for their fans .. Trust in them — Eminem will give the people what they want whenever he feels it again .. and when it comes full circle it will be the best of it all …

    27. I and many people, i’m sure, are not a fan of how he sounds nowadays in a lot of those songs. I really don’t thinks it’s intended or done on purpose. I’m more inclined to believe he is too focused on being so technical and starts to lack the ability to just chill and go with the natural flow of the song. That’s why I agree on one point with the guy in the article. Someone should tell EM things that are wack and he should work on. But everyone around him probably just approves everything he does, so he probably never really gets an honest opinion.

      1. His rhyme patterns are complex, his actual rhymes are not. If you read Eminem’s lyrics on paper they’re very simple. The only reason he does all those word play acrobatics is to mask the fact that his lyrics are simplistic and he has nothing to rap about.

      2. when i said that last week, the STANS were out in effect. Eminem doesn’t make good songs anymore. He’s too technical and his rhymes are simple but his schemes are complex

    28. Tyler is a fucking jerk, this is the best, the only good Em’s done since he got off the drugs and starting doing his gay ass shit, this is deadset like some Slim Shady shit. Tyler who? Sorry he’s a nobody.

    29. u humans just are not able to understand how great eminem is…. he’s done everything possible in hiphop, from flows to lyrics etc… he don’t do the same basic flow on every song becuz he doesn’t want to you fucking morons. he could if he wanted to; but he challenges himself to keep getting better, u retards just can’t keep up and evolve with him.
tyler who? just cuz tyler has the same flow every song
tylers just another fukin phase that’ll be forgotten about and erased from the hiphop text books

    31. shady xv had some great great hiphop music but i think people view this as an Em album and its a comp album i do have to say i enjoed the whole albm and from a competition standpoint eminem was by far the weakest on the album..esp on physco killers song

    32. damn , I haven’t heard anyone go at em in a long time. Probably due to the fact he will lyrically molest them , poor tyler , if em goes at him that might end his career

    33. em’s too smart to mention that faggot’s name. at least frank ocean had the balls to come out of the closet. anyone that has that much pent up anger spent a lot of his childhood with uncle touchy

    34. this is a compilation album. it could have been just a greatest hits album, but he decided to release new material with it.
