Eminem Reportedly Releasing “Roots” Album In 2015

Eminem will release a new album this year, according to Hip-Hop Vibe.

The alleged project bears the title Roots and is expected to include features by Dr. Dre and Xzibit.

Slim Shady has unloaded two albums in the past two years. The platinum selling The Marshall Mathers LP 2 and the greatest hits compilation Shady XV.

While not much is currently known about the project, Hip-Hop Vibe reports that the official announcement is expected to be made in early February, during the Grammy Awards events.

Shady has already won more than a dozen Grammys and he is currently nominated for three more.

It’s unclear whether this announcement will be made at the award show in-person or via social media, similar to the Shady XV promo.

Roots will be the “Rap God” rapper’s ninth solo studio album since bursting onto the Hip Hop scene in 1996 with Infinite.

      1. ^ It says it features Kunta Kinte and you’re asking if its real news? XD
I can’t with the internet, man. Lol. I just can’t.

    1. i hope this means he’s going back to his underground roots. get some primo, alchemist, apollo brown production. get features from elzhi, outsidaz, tyler the creator, slaughterhouse. make this infinite part 2.

    2. Is it just me or Em is really trying hard to prove himself again? It seems he’s not comfortable in the place he’s in, being alienated from his (once) core fanbase and making hits with pop stars. Or even worse, maybe hip-hop fans in general.

The big difference in his career before and after his addiction is this kind of universal acclaim. He was just doing himself, not really paying attention to the reactions and criticism. It’s always a huge challenge for any artist (regardless of the actual genre) to re-introduce himself after he reached a point where he told everything he wanted and expressed himself to the fullest creatively. Em reached that point around Encore, and his worsening drug addiction eventually has drawn a line.

Now, he was obviously full with energy during his comeback. The big question was the CONTENT, namely: who is Marshal Matters now and where is he in his life at the moment? An honest, self-exploring journey could have been a great theme for his post-addiction albums, but he didn’t dare to do it. Not fully, at least. Same logic goes for most of his stuff since then, it supposed to be appeal for everybody from the mainstream audience to hardcore hip-hop fans – yet it ends up being some half-assed product which triumphs nowhere.

Obviously, the former is surely important for the label, while the latter seems to be important for Em himself. All his post-addiction albums seems like about finding himself again, with continuous attempts to regain his old position in hip-hop. He’s surely one of the greatest and most popular MC ever, yet that kind of acclaim is far not that unquestionable as it was back then.

    3. with a title like roots seems like hes going back to his dr. dre produced kind of shit from the early 2000s … i only hope so

    4. Calling it roots getting everyone excited lol. This is gonna sound like his past 3 albums. It’s gonna feature skylar Gray and llorde and Taylor swift and Adriana grande etc with dre and x and 50 on it to please nobody.

    5. Rappers who have nothing left to say and need to retire for good:

      1)Eminem
      2)Jay-Z
      3)LL Cool J
      4)50 Cent
      5)Busta Rhymes
      6)Ludacris
      7)Nelly
      8)Fabolous
      9)The LOX
      10)Dipset

    6. Can haters and I-used-to-like-Eminem-ers shut up. Some of us still like him, because, you know, he twists words like few others. And those some of us are happy as long as he makes more music. So SHUTTY.

    7. Have been an Eminem fan for some time now. Incredible artist – make no mistake about it – but I’ve got to ask when it’ll be time to put down the mic? While people are hopeful for this “Roots” album to take him back to his early stages, didn’t people have the same hopes for MMLP2?

      1. yeah but em didn’t think relapse was his best effort and now after a few albums since he burst back on to the rap scene again in 2009 i think that he feels its the right time to really create the best album ever

      2. FUCK SLIM SHADY. i swear that slim shady shit is played im tired of hearing shock shit..its no longer shocking when its expected..he needs to cut that entire persona off for rest of his career..

he needs to get on his marshall mathers/eminem shit..real bars/ real stories/ that corny shit is beyond played

      3. it’s not about slim shady. it’s about the fire in him that’s gone. it’s not about shocking tracks. it’s about the irreverence and convincing delivery he had. relapse was slim shady without any of that. if you go back pre 03 then the shock rhymes wasn’t so much shocking as powerful.

    8. cant wait for this album if its true i really do think that this album will be his best and if the tracks are produce by Dre it will be a real classic to come

    9. i think this will be his best album since his comeback

em seems to be back on feet again… that shady xv cypher should shut up any haters

and the name seems like hes going to be going back to his roots again

    10. i hope eminem takes his time with this album forreal.. like jayz his other albums feel rushed and feels like he doesnt let the record sit to see if he still likes it 2 months from then.

i enjoy eminem still but out of his last 2 albums i probably still listen to maybe 7-8 songs (groundhogs day, rap god, LTWYL, spacebound) thats about it

relapse was fire concept but its just so weird you ahve to be in the mood for it.

need eminem to get on that infinite/eminem show shit bc shock value rap is fuckin done. and have a few rap feautres 1 including kendrick lamar in an actual RAP SONG not that hillbilly shit

      1. before 03 he was relaxed and not trying to overcompensate. and his delivery could convince you of anything he said. you didnt need to be in the mood he controlled your mood. now that convincing delivery is gone and has been since 05.

      2. i know, i been saying since recovery the prob has been his flow..his flow was on in a million he could ride any beat he wanted like tupac (not comparing the two). now eminem just seems obsessed with cramming in many many words and thats a cool style for alil bit but when that becomes your everyday flow it gets a little old..

matter fact 8/10 of my favoite eminem tracks are slow flow. thats been missing since eminem show/part of encore.

    11. If he doesnt go back to his old style (Marshall Mathers and Eminem Show) aka when he didnt need to SCREAM and rhyme a million words a second….and if he get some Dre beats, no pop bullshit with shitty features…then he might drop the best album of the year

MMLP2 was meh, and ShadyXV was average. Em needs a good album this go round

    12. OLD EMINEM COULD DO A SIMPLE RHYME LIKE “HAT” AND “CAT” AND DELIVER IT 100000X MORE IMPACTFUL THAN ANY BAZILLION COMPLEX RHYME SCHEME HE COMES UP WITH TODAY|!@!! INSECURE ASS!!

      1. True. He was completely at ease and that delivery that could convince you of anything and entirely control your mood was so powerful that he’s still riding off his own coattails after an entire lackluster DECADE.

Well he predicted in Soldier that he was gonna burn out by 30.

      2. haha now that I think about it he really does come off as trying too hard haha damn. that’s sad. the drugs just robbed him entirely of his essence. he seems completely introverted and shy now.

      3. eminem never rly had simple rhymes it just it sounded better bc of his flow. you take that away and add in a robot sounding eminem and you can see thru his gimmicks.

    13. haven’t liked Eminem album since Relapse (the dumb accents didn’t bother me the beats were incredible really under-rated album)

He need to slow down the flow this hyper million words in a line rappity rap shit is not fun to listen to technically yea its impressive but seems like he just doing it now to try prove sumthing cause the music is shit.

Why has he got more pop as he got older? he got the money selling power to do whatever he wants but he keeps filing his albums with the most horrible pop trash around. He got a legendary legacy in hip hop already but fucked up the slaughterhouse and yelawolf albums with pop beats that still flopped. He bounces n and out my top 5 of all time for his earlier work but why don’t he just grab alchemist premo n dre and make a solid hip hop album?

Do the album numbers plaques and charts really mean that much to him after all these years ?

      1. cosign- im a big em fan but when i talk 2 other em fans about the pop soudn they all say the same shit ‘need it to sell” em could literally record himself taking a shit and it would see

em made a hit record dissing his own fans ‘way i am’ and it sold countless records and considerd by some to be his best album ever (i think eminem show is )…

he needs to quit the bullshit pop and slow down a lil it was cool 2hear him chopper style but not every song

    14. Person: Yo, what do you think of this Lupe album (pulls out Food and Liquor)?

Hip Hop Fan: Lupe is the truth and he goes into clear details as to why this society is so messed up and his lyrical content will keep you thinking about life. His syllable usage in each track proves he’s bound to be the greatest and the fact that he stands up for what he believes is right like how 9/11 was done by the government shows he’s what we need in hip hop.

      Person: uh…What about Tech N9ne?

Hip Hop Fan: Nah cause Tech sounds the same on every album i mean his flow is amazing but he tries too hard to draw the listeners in with his melodic and chords in his verses. Every album is basically a remix of the last and he just spits a bunch of multiple syllables from start to finish and that shit is boring.

Person: ooooook….uh….What about this Nas album…

Hip Hop Fan: *ignores question about album and explains why Nas is the greatest rapper right now, detailing his roots and constantly bringing up Illmatic*

Person: Um….like this Meek Mill album cause i’m gonna have a party and…

Hip Hop Fan: NIGGA HE’S TRASH GET SOME REAL SHIT THAT’LL KEEP YOU HUNGRY FOR MORE

      ————————————————
That’s what you “technical” hip hop fans sound like. Y’all hear an artist come out with ONE album for the first time and would bet your life savings that they’re the greatest rapper (*cough* J. Cole’s first album).

    15. HERE COMES ANOTHER SUPER WACK ALBUM THAT WILL SELL COUNTLESS RECORDS, WILL BE NOMINATED FOR COUNTLESS AWARDS WITH CHESSY GIMMICKY SINGLES, AND WILL EVENTUALLY WIN A GRAMMY. HOW CONVENIENT TO BE EMINEM. RICK ROSS KILLS THIS GUY. EVEN ROSS LAST TWO ALBUMS WERE GARBAGE BUT BETTER THAN EMINEM’S.

    16. I think he’s gonna announce that its his last album, if he’s gonna announce it at the grammys. It seems like its been to fast since mmlp, usually waits like 2 years inbetween. It’ll be sad to see him go but maybe its time. His shit now sounds too similar unless he can go back mmlp/eminem show sounding

      1. haha why should he retire? eminem dedicated his life to hip hop and he certainly won’t stop now. he will do music for the rest of his life!

    17. I WISH EM WOULD JUST RELEASE AN ALBUM WITH NO THOUGHT ABOUT SELLING RECORDS… JUST STRAIGHT HIP HOP WITH OLD DUDES WHO HE USED TO WORK WITH. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE STILL GOES HARD AS FUCK. GET SOME OLD DUDES AND MAKE HIP HOP.

    18. Eminem & Xzibit again ABOUT TIME

But we need Em to actually return to his Roots, not that lets see how many fucking words we can get in 1 line
Also work on the delivery, flow & hit the lines, rhymes like you use to

    19. Who cares that this clown is dropping another pop album. I’ll admit, dude can freestyle and battle rhyme his ass off, but his music is garbage and highly overrated. I don’t even consider Eminem as a hip-hop artist. He is a pop artist, plain and simple. Truely one of the most overrated so called hip-hop artists of all time.

      1. You right, I hate wack music. I also don’t get brainwashed by marketing and promotion.

      2. But that’s what they do when they get jealous they confuse it
It’s not hip-hop it’s pop, coz I found a hella way to fuse it

      3. First of all you must not know anything about hip hop because eminem is the best rapper ever. He can rap, freestyle, a good lyricist etc. He can rap better than any modern day rapper anyday of the week. If you dont think so you are crazy as fuck

      4. Eminem is far from a pop star all his music is dope what cuz he don’t rap about selling drugs or shooting people and use the word nigga that makes him pop you don’t know what the fuck your talking about he’s more real than 90% of rappers out there and is the best of all time never was or will be anyone better rap would be dead if it wasn’t for king mathers

    20. 18Streeter – you sir are a retard. Plain and simple! Eminem has been one of the most influential artists of our time. Is record sales prove it, enough said! Douche bag!

      1. Not his fault once u in there no coming out . Blood in blood out ,to good of a puppet to let him go just so easy .

    21. Everybody on here is retarded, MMLP 2 is one of his best albums I thought. maybe not beat wise, but his lyrics and the wordplay are unbelievable.. if you actually aren’t too lazy to read them. and him rapping fast actually sounds pretty awesome if know the words. also there was only one pop song on it which was the monster so idk what the fuck you guys are talking about. anyway i think it would be cool if try to capture the sound of all of his albums, maybe even do one song with an accent like from relapse. but thats probably not gonna happen. what ever it sounds like tho im sure it will be sick. cause all of his albums are good. except recovery, but even that had its fair amount of good songs. but you all should re listen to mmlp2 seriously

    22. all of eminems albums are good even recovery i love evry single one of his songs so i think this new album is going to be awesome because you know it eminem

    23. Hey Eminem i really loves u so fuck much xxxx then i can meet to u Eminem Mwanza u my bitch boo fuck u all girls hahahaha right,Eminem .
