Eminem Salutes Masta Ace & Explains Why He Wears Classic Album T-Shirts On Tour

Eminem just wrapped up a tour of Australia and New Zealand, which saw him break records in the process. In the aftermath, some footage surfaced in which Slim Shady explained why he performs in t-shirts featuring classic Hip Hop album covers.

According to Eminem, he wears the shirts to inspire fans to seek out the legendary artists’ work.

“This was called the Rapture Tour, but originally, it was going to be called the Rap Shirt Tour,” he told the audience. “And I’ma tell you why. There’s a reason I do this every single night on stage, man … Because hopefully, some of y’all might go buy their albums, might go look em’ up.”

In the video, Eminem is seen wearing a tee with Masta Ace’s SlaughtaHouse album cover on the front. During his speech, Slim Shady specifically shouted out Ace and fellow Juice Crew member Kool G Rap.

“Like a lot of you, maybe you don’t know who Masta Ace was or Kool G Rap,” he noted. “But I feel like you need to know because what they did for Hip Hop is so fucking incredible because they made it go to that next level. And these are the rappers that inspired me, man, on some real shit.”

Listen to Eminem’s entire explanation below.

    1. I’m not impressed. Rock n roll stars do the same thing because black people do not receive the proper credit they deserve. In other words, they steal black art and amerikkkans prefer not praise blacks for the music. Aerosmith payed homage to b.b. king at a concert. Aerosmith admitted without black music they wouldn’t be rock n roll stars as if the white crowd really cared. M wouldn’t be a pop star without great black artists. The pop audience doesn’t care about the black rappers before him. M is a disgrace. Black artist shirts by a pop sell out is pitifull. M has guilty conscience because he stole black music and to line his pockets. A great black rapper should be on stage not another white boy acting black.

      1. Black people don’t get proper credit…Yeah, cause there aren’t hundreds of revered black musical artists. Sit your racist ass down. You know nothing and hear what you want to hear if you believe that. There are a handful of white rappers anyone has any time for, but racism….

        1. You are delusional. There is not a hundred of great black artists out there. Buddy, put down the crack pipe and come back to reality.

      2. Corporations, I bet you’re real fun at parties. Man, shut the fuck up about race. Real racists, like you, make everything about race and cry wolf about others being just like you. U own a mirror? Go fuck yourself with your “Amerikkkans” bullshit. The kkk belongs to the Demorat party, don’t push that shit on all of us. I never owned any slaves, mother p hu ker . Blacks sold their own to many throughout the world, educate yourself. Weaker tribes sold them out and mostly to Arabs and the Dutch.

      3. Why do people come on this site and think there so intelligent? People come here and try to kick knowledge but just sound dumb as hell. It’s a hip hop site and all he did was shout out the legends who inspired him which he should and u wrote a whole paragraph about nothing. “A black man should be on stage?? Your worse than trump lol

        1. Donald trump!!!! He is going to jail soon nobodies banging my booty. Seriously, if u look at history, black people have created(in my opinion) most of the music in AMERIKKKA. We created jazz, country, rock n roll and hip hop. Smooth Jazz, country and rock n roll have replaced black artists for whites. Black people make it and white steal it then white artists wear bullshit shirts to remind whites where it comes from. Hip hop will be mostly white one day too. Elvis is the the king of rock n roll. He stole his moves from black people and now he is the king only in AMERIKKKA. Blacks do not get the respect we deserve. No white artist can be the best in a black music. How many blacks are the best at cooking ltalian food? ZERO! Any italian will tell you that, right. How many whites are the ( the best) at black art? ZERO. My statements are not racist. Italians have pride in their race and so do we. If blacks stole something white and then called the best. White people would have a fit, right!

          1. Not going to comment on the music stuff, but you’re a little off with your statements about how one race can’t become the best at something created by another race. You do realize that basketball was created by a white guy from Canada, right? I don’t see white Canadians “having a fit” over black Americans being called the best at basketball.

            1. We didn’t steal basketball from whites. In my opinion, blacks play better ball then whites. The 2 biggest sports in AMERIKKKA are dominated by blacks. Steal and domination aren’t one in the same. People stop being heated over MY OPINIONS.

          2. Steal or dominate – stop changing words to suit your argument
En didn’t steal hip hop – he currently dominates it while helping up and coming rappers of any origin and lording the OGs

      1. We can’t please u. If racism stop, u would please us. Anyway That comment was very racist. White people(not all) think we’re animals. Therefore if we don’t kiss your butt, we do not please u. Racist whites are the true animals of society. They hate people of color before they even know them but u love to have brown skin like minorities. At least, i don’t pay money for a tan.

      1. No respect to m! I love his sellout albums. A trader paying homage to black artists is crazy. M should take more drugs not less at least he was still hip hop taking drugs. Look! Look! I’m considered the best rapper of all time. Blacks are the best at cooking italian food, right. blacks can never be the best of his own music in AMERIKKKA, right.

          1. No need for insults! People should talk out their differences. You may not like my content but that’s ok. In my opinion, society will get worse. If we can’t sit down and talk like human beings we’re in trouble.

          2. Please stop with the insults. It is just my opinion. Races of different color need to have a honest conversation about our differences.

    2. Not too big on Eminem but at least he pays homage to those classic albums and bring them to a whole new demographic…

      1. A whole new demographic??!! Oh, u mean change your musical style to please the casual fans of hip hop. I don’t care about the occasional fans of hip hop. Most of them appreciate watered rap than hip hop. M is a perfect example of hip hop gone wrong. In my opinion, most of m fans are casual fans of hip hop thats why m sold out to reach a whole new demo. As epmd said you can keep the crossover.

    3. did he wear an Esham shirt yet? dats where he got that wicked controversial ish from east side hoez and money detroit original gold albums with no radio fully independent

      1. He already shouted him out on one of his previous albums. But wouldn’t be surprised if he did wear his shirt also.

    4. Like him or not, he is one of the biggest ambassadors of Hip-Hop ever…. Not many artists humble enough for that..

      1. Bullshit! He sold out HIP HOP. Artists that love hip hop don’t changed up styles for people who know very little about hip hop. In my opinion, most of m’s fans are more familiar with migos, drake, lil pump and the rest of that pop shit. M is white. He already had the pop crowd in his pocket. Humble!!!!! He is not humble. M wears those shirts to SHOW he is still down hip hop even though he sells out. I never like him from the start. The beastie boys and other white rappers remain TRUE to hip hop. The beastie boys are very good role models. They NEVER sold out for the poop crowd. You can’t be a hip hop fan. Your just an average fan that likes m because he is white and a pop artist now. If he was a hip hop artist you wouldn’t even listened to his albums. ONE HIS FIRST ALBUM HE SAID I’M THE WORST THING SINCE ELVIS. M AIN’T LYING!

    5. That’s 3 posts that you’ve scrubbed so far for saying y’all are owned by Cox media group.

    6. yall like ESPN when they just post everything about lebron lol at least once a week, i see something about Eminem on here..jeez

    7. Eminem wears a shirt and that’s enough for a headline on this site? No agenda or favoritism going on here I’m sure….Wink,wink….

    8. Eminem sounds like Big Bird rapping….All my comments being critical of Eminem have been censored by the moderaters policing this forum. Trying to see if this one makes it. I also criticized Trump and it was targeted and scrubbed.SMH…..

    9. All these racists coming out of the woodwork to trash a man with pale skin who crawled out of the same ghetto a lot of us came out if or are still trapped in.
A man with extreme talent who respects and honors HIPHOP doesn’t deserve to rap but XXX/Pump/Any Cliche’ wack rapper with the correct skin tone who doesn’t give a damn about you or the culture is protected? I just don’t understand it. He should be accepted with open arms for towing the line forward not rejected for “stealing culture”

    10. @corporations

Ssoooo only black people should do music?! Typical black person being racist as fuck while crying racism! Get over your self…

      1. Last time I checked Eminem was goin after an upcoming white rappers MGKs head with “Killshotz” going after his buzz and career over saying his grown daughter was pretty….Guess that’s something him and Trump have in common…lol….Hey why won’t he let other white rappers do music is he reverse racist… LMAO….

      2. Your sick buddy! Black people can’t be racist, in my opinion. Racism is a system of oppression to keep other races down. Therefore blacks can’t be racist. Blacks do not oppress whites. Not all white people are racist of course. Racist whites sneak around and act like human beings until they show their true colors. Police officers shooting unarmed black men is racist. Not all cops are racist but too many are and should be fire. Bad cops make all cops look bad. By the way, black people don’t about complain about racism. We want it stop. White people complain even more when they think a minority stole their job because whites expect to be first line for everything.

    11. The least he could do is wear a shirt from the dude he jacked his whole style from. Fuckin big bird.

    12. Coming from the sunny U.K.
The black / white divide on this is crazy. I knew US had issues and seen the racism in the police plus listened to Em rap about the injustice of racism, police issues, being discriminated against, no opportunities, being called a Wigga etc. He calls out the great black rappers all the time and seems to be a rapper who understands the OGs and what they did. You don’t need to like Em, but why can’t you get that he loves the heritage and mocks the links with him & Elvis.
I just don’t get them Em hate when he admires so many black rappers plus he was a minority
Have you heard him talk about LL Cool J ???

      1. When was m a minority? Do you mean a white artist in a field dominated by blacks? M had the easiest path to success. Why because this a mostly white nation. White people die for a white artist that ACTS blacks. While the black artists he steals from are left behind with the mainly non pop crowd. Therefore they will make less money but aleast they can look into the mirror with pride and dignity. M can only see a black face white boy stealing money from black artists that he is suppose to admire.

        1. Growing up in black neighbourhoods

Is the market not big enough for talent – white or black – to make it big despite M’s presence?? Jazz etc made it….

No disrespect but you sound like a bitter black fan of hip hop and git an issue with the cards life dealt you – you should listen to some M to motivate you & turn your life around dog. You sound bitter and miserable. Quite sad really. I feel sorry for you. Here’s a hug and you can be a successful if you put your mind to it, I believe in you ?

    13. mad respect for eminem. one of the goats for real but never understood why a hiphop nerd like him wouldnt have masta ace etc on his album. i wanna hear an eminem album featuring masta ace, pharoahe monch, redman and royce 59. thats it no one else. no other features. dre beats, bass brothers beats, erick sermon beats, pete rock beats etc

        1. He makes a living – don’t you have a job?

He’s promoting new talent and slagging off mumble rap – you a mumble fan ? Do Em’s bars go over your head? Was it commercial to take the Trump stand?? Was untouchable not a political pro black stance ?? Was walk on water a commercial song or a personal song. Sure releasing River would have been a better commercial move given Ed’s following

          Your stance is strange

    14. He’s goes on about these legendary hip hop rappers yet he hardly ever has any of them on his albums or songs which is strange. Is it because they are not commercial enough or hurt his sales? Instead you get the same wack beats and lackluster songs.

      1. Prob because they’re in their 50s and 60s and the new kids wont listen unless it was Lil Kool G Rap or YungMaster Ace

    15. People asking why Em didn’t do features with the OG”s. Did Offset have ED Og on his album? Did Blueface drop a cut featuring Rakim? Still hoping to hear that Kool G Rap and Travis Scott, Meek Mill and Big Daddy Kane new single. When did Kendrick have Erick Sermon or Kool Moe Dee spit 16 on a cut? Anyone…anyone? I’ll wait…

      1. Most hip hop artists do not jump on tracks with people who can’t rap. M can’t have old heads on his record because his pop audience will not allow it. If corny ass rappers on the radio do not kiss the corporations ass then they wouldn’t be play anymore. The pop audience does not care about hip hop legends because watered down music is their choice of garbage. One LISTENS to hip hop. Rap is just HEARD and easy to digest. We(hip hop) want our artists to create a masterpiece. The pop audience just wants trendy songs from the album. M can’t have oldheads with great lyricism on his album. The Pop audience just wants to hear the newest hip words to used with friends. Do you really think the pop audience will go out and buy masta ace all of a sudden? NO! FUCK M AND HIS SHIRTS THEIR MEANLESS TO POP TRASH.

    16. I find it so strange that you read articles on Em if you don’t like him…
look at his background and early days. Tough upbringing, broken family, minority in his hood but found an outlet in rap.
Failed with first album, went through rap battles, studied the OGs and culture and broke into a black market / amazing really and inspiring
Sings about his life and pains which let you into his life. Tells us that race / back ground etc shouldn’t hold you back and it’s just you holding you back.
He loves the culture and sticks to his roots – an MC. He sticks up for the culture in the fight against mumble rap and calls out so so many OGs to pay respect. Respect to the OGs that allowed hip hop to start & evolve. He’s done plenty features and calls out places in rap culture so people like me research it or old rappers for me to listen to.
He does do commercial features – yes & why not??? This keeps him relevant and evolving so he doesn’t keep producing another MMLP . He also shines a light on new rappers which is the rap-torch for the music to continue – Lucas, Hobson, Boogie, Royce etc
I find the anti-Em stuff ridiculous and anti-white in a country that needs to close the race gap. The sport analogy was perfect and the Rooney rule a great example to help close gaps.
I understand gays or some women groups having an issue but from a minority???? From a rap fan??? Come on get real bud – go listen to his music or interviews. He’s a rap geek and an OG doing what an OG should do – help new artists and remind others of the greats.
You don’t have to like his music but look what he says / does and realise he inspires, helps people through tough times while frustration and real pain are in his bars.

“Nobody asked for life to deal us
With these bullshit hands we’re dealt
We gotta take these cards ourselves
And flip ’em, don’t expect no help
Now, I could’ve either just sat on my ass
      And pissed and moaned
Or take this situation in which I’m placed in
And get up and get my own”

      1. I find it so strange a lengthy comment praising Eminem made it onto this forum but ,my lengthy comment criticizing Eminem never did. Hmmmm….Is this site biased? It’s ran a story on him 3 times in the past 7 days. He broke records in New Zealand, he’s re- releasing an old album, he wore a t-shirt….S.M.H…. Is someone on his payroll or something? Look you may not like my comments or opinions or the fact I know you’re owned by Cox media group but, lemme speak my piece. Eminem is an awesome entertainer no doubt but, his producer Dre is known for making dope beats that make records go platinum,2pac All eyes on me, Snoop Dogg Doggy style, etc…. The man is talented but, please stop trying to force him on us with non stop coverage of insignificant shiii he does. Pac performed for single mothers raising there children on Mother’s Day and handed out Turkeys on Thanksgiving. What has Eminem done for the people in Flint Michigan? Not a damn thing. If the TRUTH HURTS I’m sorry somebody had to say it.

        1. Go see what the The Marshall Mathers Foundation does and all its support for the needy – do some research before you jump on here shooting off

He also produced a 2pac record and worships him in a number of songs – what’s your beef….

If you don’t like him – stay away from the articles

Recently Em has blown away other artists on sales despite being accused of being irrelevant – spit on mumble rap beats and essentially flown the hip hop flag while support the black life’s matter movement – what’s all the negativity about.

Move on as the webs a big place. Why don’t you search for articles about dogs and tell the readers you prefer cats

          1. Why go on another site for voicing my opinion and speaking facts. It ain’t Eminem helping the people in Flint Michigan it’s Jaden Smith from California…Fact… This site is owned by Cox media group… FACT…. Another meaningless article promoting Eminem just popped up about copyrights in New Zealand… FACTS!!!! The people running this site must be getting a check or are the definition of Stans!!! What’s the next article gonna be Eminem takes a shiii??? How are those stories relevant to hip hop? Somebody’s getting paid… LMAO

            1. Yep Will Smith’s boy is doing well and promoting his own water bottle company at the same time ????

              You promoting him now??

Em is helping the local area in the areas close to his heart and does it quietly – Jadon has done it load and promoted his company.

Go figure – what’s your real issue.

Like I say why don’t you pop on the dog website and speak up cats or a cancer charity site and moan they don’t promote domestic violence – you are just picking faults to be confrontational but don’t really have a strong arguemejt

Like you state – get your facts right.

            2. Eminem is this you??? LMAO….All that money and someone else gots to go to Michigan to help out the community…SMH ….I understand his music touched your life and now you touch yourself to his poster listening to his music…Stan it’s ok he’s gonna write you , wait by the mailbox it’s coming….

            3. Have you done your research yet or you just going to post abuse with zero balance or sens.

So you don’t think Jaden’s goodwill is linked to promoting his own company making water bottles?

You seriously need to chill on the Em posts as you have no credibility spouting ? just to spout ?. I did the ? emoji as u sure of your age ??

If you want me to help breakdown some if his bars for you, let me know. May be like Killshot – the bars went over your head.

            4. The only thing going over Ems head is your mouth and after a few minutes KILLSHOT all down your throat!!! Hahahaha….Boi better go pop fly with someone else I’ll roast your ass and let you know about yourself. Now go drink some Shady juice and wash it down with some water from Flint…. Nothing you said changes the Fact Marshall didn’t do shit for the people of Flint, Michigan now go look up shiii on the internet and try to come back… I’ll be waiting.

            5. Sorry to keep you waiting, I had your mum at boiling point and unlike my favourite wine FlintDry , your mum certainly wasn’t. Quit badgering Em fans and trolling every article – your a sad person. I can’t even say a man as I’m told you come up short there also. Enjoy your weekend and hope you and You enjoy Will Smith as you certainly enjoy his sweat and energ on projects.

    17. Corporations… how are you?

Interested to hear your point of view as I do t understand it.

From afar, it sounds a little racist if I am honest but I am sure you are not.

I like Em as I love the picture his work paints, his clever bars, different rap styles, motivational songs and the love for his family & home town.

I am white by the way & not really into really heavy rap and connected with Em as I like lyrics rather than just the beat.

He seems to love hip hop & the legends, he seems to respect the legacy of the genre and suffered bullying plus racism himself. He came up through the MC route and had to fight for success. Dre risked everything on the white boy no one wanted to touch. He’s also helped Royce and Joiner plus a Boogie by shining light on them. Joiner is a great example & I love his song about racism. Without Em – I would not even know of these artists.

By letting people into his music – he’s help loads of people and is respected in the industry. Yes he’s done some commercial songs but so what. He’s also fought to protect OGs as new rappers shit on OGs to sing about crap.

I just don’t get it – he also sang about racism, American police, trump stance cut his fan base….

What’s your problem it’s hi. – is it that he’s white and the biggest rapper at the moment.

Why aren’t you mad at Kanye etc for not shining light on new talent or fighting mumble rap.. you not bothered about Drake and his auto tune or ghost writers

      1. I hate drake and autotunes thats not hip hop. Hip hop is not commercial bullshit for the radio. Artists shouldn’t water down music for whites to make more money. Mm is white and does need to sellout. The mostly country is white so he should sell the most. In a black country mm wouldn’t be the top selling artist. He sold out for no reason at all. He doesn’t love hip hop. Real hip hop artists keep their style. If the pop audience wants to listen to the music that’s cool. But the Pop audience know very little about hip hop traditions nor do they care. They’re culture vultures. M is one too. I never like him from the first album. By the way, why do i have to be a racist? U don’t know me. I HATE DUMB ASS WHITES WHO CAN’T THINK FOR THEMSELF. We haven’t done anything to white people but i’m racist. Unarmed black males who r murder by the police know thats racists . Black males are AMERIKKA most í7 because no good whites are a afraid us. Therefore must be kill off.

        1. Hi Corp, I don’t believe I called you a racist but said your comments could come across to be racist comments. You continue to make this about race and continue to mention white Vs black. Surely that’s what’s wrong with America. You probably don’t like Joyner but you should listen to I’m not racist. Interesting song that I listened to because of Em. Your opinion of whites doesn’t really help the matter nor does the opinion of whites towards blacks. Clearly there’s a lot of history there but you are kinda expressing racist comments but get offended when it’s highlighted. Why do you have such a problem with Em and not Kendrick, daddy, Jay Z, Fifty, Snoop etc etc all of which made it and didn’t suffer because of Em but have also sold out based on the type of music they sell.
Em came through the ranks battle rapping, going to competitions and eventually backed by Dre. Em’s a huge of NWA, Andre 3000, outcast etc & continues to call out Tupac and Proof.
He seems to have fought discrimination and been a minority race – he made it out of the bottom of the pack & made it big. He should be an inspiration not demonised. The anti-white bar is crap & that club’s closed now.
Is the hip hop industry so small that Em takes up all the sales???? Come on mate, get real & let it go.
Also, if you don’t want to be challenged on racism then express your anti-white message slightly differently

        2. Got a verse for you : So if you don’t like when I rap or what I have to
Say on the mic, then you might wanna act just
Like quarterbacks and take a fuckin’ hike when I snap ’cause
I’m a sinner, and I, I got a best friend, best friend
Plus balls and intestines, and they never been yes men
They gon’ tell me when I’m fuckin’ up the minute I’m ever givin’ it less than
I’m about to vomit and I can feel it comin’
’Cause failure’s somethin’ I can barely stomach
And I only listen to my gut
So unless you’re my fuckin’ belly button
Don’t tell me nuttin’,

          …..

So prepare for a rival, your arch enemy surrounds you now
He’s all around you—blaow
Not even the doctors at the hospital
Are gonna shiggy-shock you back to life
It’s im-piggy-possible to revive you
That’s word to the Diggy Doc
Stiggy-stoppin’ is not an option
Somethin’ I’m not gonna do
I’m the Iggy Pop of hip-hop when I walk in the booth
Dawg, I’m the truth, like Biggie rockin’ with 2Pac in a suit
Talkin’ to Proof droppin’ a deuce
Fill up a syllable clip like a refillable script, cock it and shoot
And who you think’s my Glock that I use?
That I pull from to get my strength up against these haters
And he’ll be waitin’ at the gate when you get sprayed up
Sendin’ you hoes straight up to deal with my best friend
