Although it’s only been three days since its release, Billboard reports that Eminem’s most recent studio album Recovery is expected to hit the 600,000 mark in sales in its first week. Some experts are even indicating that Recovery may even surpass sales for Em’s 2009 comeback Relapse, which sold 608,000 copies in its debut week.
If projections prove correct, this will put Em well on track for his sixth consecutive No. 1 debut on Billboard and sixth overall No. 1 album. Only his major label debut The Slim Shady LP did not ascend to the No. 1 spot.
But with stiff competition from The Roots’ How I Got Over and rock acts like Ozzy Osbourne and Miley Cyrus, will Marshall take the top prize? DX will keep you updated. (June 24)
UPDATE: Hits’ Daily Double has updated projections, now believing that Recovery will sell more like 750,000 first week units. This would make the Detroit superstar’s release the highest-selling debut Rap album since Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III, released just over two years ago.
The increase may come courtesy of additional Eminem interviews and performances in the last week, including appearing alongside Jay-Z on David Letterman’s Late Show.

@blactrs78 150k more is actually a HUGE difference. My favorite albums this year (so far) are: Reflection Eternal – RPM, Distant Relatives, and The Roots – HIGO. First week sales for those albums are RPM: 21,000, Distant Relatives: 57,000, and HIGO: 45,000 (projected). These guys can’t even achieve 150k first week (shit, some not even 1/3 of 150,000) let alone SURPASS another album by 150k. Get my point? Anyway…..album sales are a terrible and unsufficient way to measure the quality and greatest of an album. People need to realize that!
Since this is an Eminem post; I went to Best Buy on monday and there were atleast 150 copies of Recovery left (I saw an overwhelming amount on the shelves). I went back on tuesday to pick up HIGO and I still saw close to the same amount. Once again I went back wednesday and Recovery was SOLD OUT. I was amazed. They ordered 250 more copies. After witnessing that I think this album will sell well over 600,000 first week.

This is his best album since ‘Eminem Show’. The funny thing is, ever since Em came out with his new records and talked about how “bad” Relapse and Encore was to him, and how so many ppl agree now, ppl seem to forget. Em’s album was okay….. But my taste in music has changed over the years. And I’m sorry for the hip hop heads who love Em’s raw style…. but he’s never been an artist that I liked that much. His new CD also shows how widespread of an artist he is. While other artists like Jeezy can only have one sound. Lyrically he has rapped everyway possible. Positive lyrics. Stories (murder she wrote). Funny songs. Club shit. Talent wise, I dont think anyone can fuck with him. However nobody can ever determine who the greatest is, cuz its just a matter of opinion giving in consideration their own music taste.
