Eminem wrote a letter to Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, for The Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Georgia, VIBE reports.
In the letter, Eminem thanks Afeni for the influence she has had on his life. He also details how her son inspired and encouraged him.
“When I was feeling at my worst; (before fame, before Dre) I knew I could put that ‘Tupac‘ tape in,” Eminem writes, “and suddenly, things weren’t so bad. He gave me the courage to stand up and say ‘F**k the world!’ ‘This is who I am! And if you don’t like it, go f**k yourself!’ Thank you for giving us his spirit and yours.”
Eminem signs the letter as “Marshall.” His given name is Marshall Mathers.
Eminem also drew a portrait of Tupac addressed to Afeni.

2pac’s legacy shouldn’t have been released on multiple double albums (R U Still Down, Better Dayz, Until the End of Time). It should’ve been broken down into smaller single albums that were more thought out, and then he would’ve still had albums releasing until today. but no. they had to make as much money as possible right away. Also. R U Still Down sold 4 million. As a 2pac fanatic, it was a great album, but it came out right after Makaveli, the general public regular rap fans needed a better newer album than R U Still Down, which featured music from pre 95 era.
Actually, releasing a double album instead of single albums make less money…
It’s not exactly worth it to release an album today. Most artists make their money from touring, and Pac can’t tour RIP. I think there might have been some hindsight involved when they released all that material before digital downloads started fucking with album sales. But I imagine Tupac must have seemed like a god in Hip Hop at the time, to be dead and gone but still be putting out double albums every year.
This letter shows the true Marshall. I hope wherever Tupac or his spirit might be sees this, so that he knows how he became a God poetically, and musically. Thanks.
Very classy thing to do.
Eminem’s letter is so fucking touching
I remember that garbage 2pac album Eminem produced a few years back. Terrible mixing, terrible production, features with him and his artists (who Pac would have never worked with), editing of vocals (sped up or slowed down to match beat), fake 2pac voice shouting out G-Unit, etc It was probably the worst 2pac album ever made. I’m not impressed
TUPAC FEAT. BOBBY CREEKWATER. A fucking disgrace.
One Day at a Time is one of the best songs of all time.
Possibly Eminem’s best verse. Possibly Tupac’s as well. Outlaws too.
One song doesn’t necessarily make an album. But one of the best songs ever created in any genre of music.
Pac feat Creek wtf you talk about
You know, hip hop has gone a little too far. How is it you are writing to someone’s mother who is older than you, professing respect and saying thank you and you throw in the F word… a couple times no less? Forgive MY french, but where the F is the respect. When speaking french, literally, if you are addressing a woman older than you, or that you don’t have a casual relationship with, you call her madame, as opposed to the more familial mademoiselle, which means “Miss”. We have to up our game people. If we all blew up tomorrow, but our history or whatever remained and aliens came down and studied what remained, they would wonder about us. We want to act like thugs and criminals, but get pissed off when we get treated as such. There isn’t rap or RnB music being made today that doesn’t have cuss words, and not just cuss words, but the worst. Its bad people. If you have a party these days, you can’t even find current music (rap and rnb) that won’t offend people. Nigga this, Nigga that, its bad y’all.
It’s time for us as a people to start makin’ some changes.
Let’s change the way we eat, let’s change the way we live
and let’s change the way we treat each other.
You see the old way wasn’t working so it’s on us to do
what we gotta do, to survive.
“He gave me the courage to stand up and say f**k the world, this is who I am and if you don’t like it go F**k yourself” – This in no way shows disrespect towards her, he is not addressing the Queen of the solar system, she knows this man and has seen what he built his career on, profanity being somewhere top of the list. Your concern like this letter is personal. Let it be. The respect is there
You know…. Pac’s message was MORE than “F the World” so I agree with ‘Concerned’.
WHERE IS THE RESPECT? Like really… is that all you got out of Tupac’s music? Because I learned a lot more from him than that. Eminem popped too many pills
2Pac didnt was a contradicting rapper. talking about peace but dissing everybody in the rapgame without a good reason.
Eminem is a dickrider
Eminem is a real nigga for this one
Nice one em,I’m sure pac iz happy wherevr he iz #true word
I started young kickin dust and livin rough. You watch your mouth around ma mama you couldn’t cuss man.
Em clearly didn’t heed those words from Pac.
I really don’t know wats wrong wit y’all bitchass critics. In this day n age,FUCK is butter 2 bread. I ain’t gotta come wit gun in ma hand 2 make sure y’all mufuckers understand. An F to it puts it thru ur brain so deep. It’s no disrespect or whatever, its just magical. Fuck y’all.
I knew you shit heads would some how turn this into something negative. You guys are pathetic. There is nothing on Earth that can appease you rotten little fucks. Your generation is the ugliest bunch of spoiled brats to ever populate the planet. A mufucka could donate a billion dollars to starving children and you’d find a way to diss him for him. Fuck ya’ll.
Eminem has gained my respect after this one. He a real dude.
sh*t is jus…… Em reaching with this one
Smh ppl are so sensitive nowadays , the message is clear nothing but love for tupac’s mother and also for tupac they both understand the message from em , even tho ppl like us want to talk shit you don’t know anything about the relationship between them so it’s really just a waste of time by individuals speaking about a matter that they no nothing about but I guess that’s what haters do. your in titled to your opinion along as it actually is a legitiment reason not when he’s just trying to reach out to his mother and express how he has influenced his life and that he really admires him, and to let his mother know partly the reason he is who is is today is by music package produced to help ppl, tupacs man goal was to show the pplehat we need to do. yes he loved where he was from and wanted nothing but love and happiness for the ppl struggling in the hood because they have for a long time now , but to do so we all must want to change to make a better life for the future for all mankind not just African Americans in no means am I saying they are except because there not at all we should want to help everyone achieve there goals because we all have something special in us even if we don’t think , I understand the reason things are the way they are but it doesn’t need to be that way anymore is no one tierd of it, if we all stand up for each other and create what tupac wanted which was just peace among everybody with no hostility we will all lead much more happy and fulfilling lives for the better of everyone !!
Also em has some seriouse artist skills never knew, great Portrait by him
Eminem wanted to become a cartoonist before becoming a rapper tht explains his artistic skills . .
I never could stand Eminem. His music is plain old garbage. Basically making a career off of dissing on other pop stars when he’s basically a fuckin’ pop star himself! He’s gotta go down as one of the corniest rappers of all time! I can’t believe how popular this clown became. He doesn’t have any classic hip-hop material and shouldn’t even be mentioned as a “hip-hop” artist to be honest. His music is all corny pop-rap garbage. Even the wack ass “Lose Yourself” is laughable and corny as hell. FUCK all of his fanatical fans too. Truth hurts.
You know shit about hip-hop, son.
You are fucking asshole.
I’m Detroit and broa, ain’t nothing corny about Em,
Eminem and 2pac are the greatest. I put them side by side.
Ya feel.
Real recognize real. Two of the greatest rappers ever
Damn Em can really draw…impressed
May she rest easy.her son was one of the greatest rappers of all time
i saw that drawing in EMinem’s Memoir The WAy I Am
