During an exclusive interview with AllHipHop.com, Harlem rapper Jim Jones gave Eminem credit for being “one of the greatest emcees,” but also revealed that he wouldn’t put the Detroit lyricist in his list of Top 5 favorite rappers.
According to Jones, while Eminem may be talented lyrically his music doesn’t reflect the lifestyle he lives.
“I wouldn’t put Eminem in my category cause he’s wicked with the rhymes and all that type of shit, but my music got to reflect on the lifestyle I live,” Jones said. “It gotta make me feel a certain type of way. Eminem is by far one of the greatest emcees because he’s an artist, but his music don’t actually put me like I’m feeling like I want to go on the block and sell drugs. You dig? It’s a different type of shit. When I look at his music it’s like ‘Damn, this nigga is out of control’. The shit he try to squeeze in one line. That’s how I look at him. I look at him as a real artist and try to dissect what he’s saying. And it’s like ‘How the fuck he put 19 syllables in one bar?’”
While speaking with AllHipHop.com, the Dipset member labeled today’s rappers fiends rather than hustlers, a sentiment that was echoed months ago by fellow New York City artist Troy Ave.
“I don’t do no Mollys, no X,” he said. “I don’t experiment. I don’t do none of that. I came from the era where you sell drugs. You don’t take ‘em. Rappers are more fiends than they are hustlers nowadays. But it’s a whole different type of thing going on. Niggas don’t sell drugs no more. They do scams.”
Prior to speaking on Eminem and today’s rappers, Jones shared one of his craziest fan experiences. His experience involved a male fan with the words “Jim Jones” tattooed on his back.
“I’ve seen a grown man with a Jim Jones tattoo,” the rapper said. “I forgot, like North Carolina. Somewhere like that. On the back of his shoulder, some shit like that. At a show, I remember that vividly. Niggas was snapping on me after the show. Like ‘Man, that’s mad suspect. Nigga got your name on his body.’ But, that shows dedication. I’m just glad they not typing my name on their body no more.”
Most recently, Jim Jones garnered attention following comments he made about Roc-A-Fella Record co-founder Dame Dash. In an Instagram post uploaded last month, Jones referred to Dame as a “culture vulture” in a caption he added to his picture.

Certain rappers just have the charisma to make you think they’re incredible, when in reality, it’s not really the words, but the way the words are being said by the rapper. If you read Eminem’s lyrics on paper, they’re very simple and bad compared to most rappers, even ones most would deem horrible. This is why I don’t take him seriously. I see Eminem as just another hyped up relic of the 2000’s era of novelty rap. The only rapper to survive from that era, because he is white.
