Elzhi Facing Possible Lawsuit From Fans Over Kickstarter For Album

Fans wanted Elzhi to put an album out so bad they supported him by donating to his Kickstarter with an aim in funding his next album. Well now those fans are starting to wonder where their money went and threatening the Slum Village member with a lawsuit.

According to Bossip, the fans who donated to his cause are fed up with waiting after a year and a half for no material and plan to sue Elzhi.

“Dear fellow backers: I’m preparing a class action lawsuit against Jason Powers aka Elzhi for failure to deliver the album we funded, rewards and failure to refund,” a fan who donated, commented under the Kickstarter page. “If you want to be plaintiff, please email your full legal name and the city and state in which you reside to [redacted]. You can find information about my legal background [linkedin link redacted]. I will post updates regarding the lawsuit to this comment thread. Thank you — now let’s get our money back!”

Elzhi began a kickstarter in 2013 in order to create a new album and raised $37,000 quickly. According to the cause’s page, he made promises to send album artwork, singles and merchandise to fans, which were never received.

    1. eLZhi, I Truly Doubt Your Fans Want To Sue You. I Think They Simply Want (And Feel Entitled To) Some New Music. Please Get At The People My G. The Game Needs You. Peace.

    2. Come one Elzhi just drop what we all want and need from you!! The Preface, Elmatic, witness my growth and everything in between is so dope..lyrically and artistically one of the greatest, and so slept on..we’ve all been patiently waiting, so please just drop some m’f’n music!

    3. As someone who did two successful kickstarters, I have experience of not dealing with rewards and fans due to being overwhelmed with trying to handle my own stuff. I’d like to share from artists perspective. Sometimes it can take up to 6 months. Maybe 9 months or a year depending on the project! Sounds crazy but let me explain.

I specifically promised a film once, and underfunded by entire project. I didn’t realize we can film the whole thing, yet not edit (which you need way more).
My rewards were fulfilled with the merchandise (hoodies, tees, dinners, music etc.) I will still uphold those and apologized to everyone and offered options out of it. People respected that and considered. The project is not abandoned. My

I also fulfilled another one for a “tour” and “album” this past may which included “3d USBs” made by same guy who did the Elzhi USB. I also made custom made songs for people. It takes time, but not “that much time.” Ultimately, the only thing you can lose out for is integrity and honesty, which are in my opinion two of the most important things an artist can have, because it takes years to build it up, and only one bad decision to lose it all.

As for the fan/ kickstarter supporter, you can’t sue anyone from not fulfilling their reward. It is impossible, as it is a crowd funded platform based on pledges. You can make a blog post about it, but it will never happen. I have asked the people myself who run these places (indiegogo and kickstarter) and that is unfortunately the truth. But if an artist did you wrong, don’t lose all hope on them. Not everyone is as good at business as they are as rapping. Hopefully someone can come in on the business side, take it over and give you the best stuff possible. Elzhi has tons of new music out there you CAN listen to.

emailing – support@Kickstarter.com and letting them know is probably the best thing to do.

As pissed off as you may be, always take the high road, go to the Elzhi show, see if you can make different arrangements to fulfill the rewards you were promised by reaching out to his team.

      1. Then he should communicate that with the fans that donated. Whatever his excuse…sorry, whatever is reason is for the delay he should email his backers in the situation. Not doing anything puts doubt in the platform & makes it harder for others to get credibility by using Kickstarter. 2 years & no update? Nah son.

      2. Glad you took the time to explain that kosher dillz because unfortunately it seems the vast majority of commenters on these threads aren’t very well educated on production costs, artists repertoire, nor business. I’ve personally worked with Elzhi through a relatively large annual music festival, here in atlanta, and have talked to him enough to know this is not the kind of guy that would intentionally not fulfill obligations without good reason. More times than not when there is a hangup in the creation process of an album, commenting at all on the matter will only lead to more questions from fans. Regardless of the legalities I hope the people that respect his work enough to donate remain patient with him. The first time I met him, he introduced himself to me, and then proceeded to turn around and introduce me to Karriem. Elzhi is good people

    4. Honestly, what could the artist need money for to create an album that he couldn’t earn by touring, or loans from a label? Is Elzhi not signed to anyone right now? I swear I thought he was on Mass Appeal with RTJ and Fashawn.

    5. This is a shame because Elzhi is the truth but why do that to your die hard fans, that’s your bread and butter…. SMH

    6. i hope Elzi drops something. I think he’s a perfectionist you can tell by the way all his bars are put together. Dudes slept on heavy
