DX News Bits: Soulja Boy, Ice Cube

    Rapper Soulja Boy [click to read] will be one of the first artists to have their music used as part of a new, cutting-edge iPhone application.

    The application, which costs five dollars, will give listeners the opportunity to remix songs using various features. The application offers the ability to mute sections of songs and even add samples. And the finished product can be shared via e-mail, Facebook, and other Websites. 

    Developed by Bell Rock & Moderati, the application will feature three songs by Soulja Boy.

    “I always felt we should do something with music to make it more fun and interactive, beyond just changing the format from physical CDs to digital downloads,”
    Jon Vlassopulos, CEO of Bell Rock & Moderati told Wired.com. “I’d been away from the [music] space for a while doing television [Pop Idol, etc.]… I said, ’someone must have nailed this by now,’ but it turned out that no one was really doing what we thought we could deliver, in terms of this fresh, interactive vision of artists and fans collaborating.”

    In other news, the motion picture Are We There Yet? starring Ice Cube [click to read] will be moving to the small screen next year. 

    TBS and Debmar-Mercury will be converting the movie into television format and has already ordered 10 episodes of the show.

    The show will not star Ice Cube, but his character Nick will be replaced by actor Terry Crews.

    Terry Crews is the perfect person to replace me as Nick,” Ice Cube told HollywoodReporter.com. “His physical comedy is undeniable.”

    The show will be produced by Ice Cube’s Cube Vision.
