New York Rap trio Team Facelift has been signed to Duck Down Records [click to watch], the label that has boasted talents such as Heltah Skeltah, Black Moon, and most recently, Kidz in the Hall. [click to read] The group, which consists of emcees Fat Jew, Machine, and Fonda, has enlisted the production talent of deejay Junior Sanchez to release their debut on the label.
“Joining the Duck Down roster is surreal,” members said in a statement, “being that we all grew up in Manhattan and were raised on that east coast, mid-’90s sound. They are the pioneers of the whole scene, putting out straight up classic albums.”
Although the group considers itself members of the Hip Hop genre, they shared, “We’re also moving in the direction of House music, and not that cheeseball glam/electro sound, but more classic New York underground house sound.” Their music strays from the conventional Hip Hop sound and instead, aims to incorporate into their music a house and Hip Hop blend that peaked in the mid 1990s.
“Team Facelift represents a group that continues our commitment towards the growth and expansion of Duck Down Records as a diversified label,” explained co-owner of Duck Down, Dru Ha. “While their music is a departure from what our core fans would consider the ‘typical Duck Down sound’ we demonstrated last year (with Kidz in the Hall) that we can work projects outside our known zone.”
The release date for the untitled album is yet to be announced.
