DX News Bits: DMX, Busta Rhymes

DMX’s request to be released from an Arizona state prison in order to participate in Dr. Drew Pinsky’s Celebrity Rehab television show has been denied.

TMZ reports that a judge rejected the troubled rapper’s request because he is already doing well in a court-appointed substance abuse program, which ends early in July.

As previously reported, X and his lawyer hoped that the rapper would be able to join the Vh1 television show, which features radio and television personality Dr. Drew Pinksy, who specializes in addiction medicine.

In other news, Busta Rhymes is following GZA and Raekwon’s lead by releasing a sequel of his own:  Extinction Level Event 2.

According to the rapper’s Twitter page (@BusaBusss), fans should ready themselves for the sequel to his 1998 album, which spawned the hit, “Gimme Some More.”

There is no word yet on what production or features can be expected for the album.

Seriously, when is the legends going to realize that sequels isn’t the answer? OB4CL2 pulled it off, the rest is just stale versions of their first.. People need to take notes from Aceyalone’s and the lonely ones, brand new sound, still fresh as fuck! No trying to go mainstream, no trying to remake a classic, just fresh, dope music!

    4. Now Jessie we need ur tapeman, but first go 2 Arizona and try 2 get DMX released early dont do the celebrity rehab,we have a better rehab 4 him.

    7. I am losing a lot of faith in Bustas ability to make good music. Since the release of the Big Bang, He seems to make hot garbage always having some pop crooners sing the hook. If he’s going to make a sequel he should fall back go independent, take his time and slow roast a classic. Busta Rhyme’s last album was the top 10 worst albums of 2000-2010, it was embarrassingly bad.

    8. first off, has busta ever had a classic album. that’s one of my top 5 niggas right there but i don’t think dude ever had a classic (anarchy’s my fav). i didn’t hear his last one cuz i jus expected it to be ass and after the reviews i heard i don’t think i was wrong. (i remember this nigga in an interview talkin some shit bout right now the game ain’t about lyrics.) that shit had me buggin, this comin from busta rhymes. maybe he’ll comeback to his senses.

next topic sequels. in hiphop it’s supposed to about originality and individiuality but this little era that we in, i see it’s all about bitin and dicridin and FOLLOWIN. everything that’s trendy these days, these young boys hop on it like a bunch of school girls. i swear it’s the gayest era i ever knew of hiphop. the latest trend right now seems to be sequels. i’m not even goin into a long piece about sequels but if you cant look out and see it’s getting a little to ridiculous then you probably followin too.

      1. I agree with you on the sequels. They are getting ridiculous. Raekwon saw success with Cuban Linx 2, then that made the other legends want to do the same thing (Sadat X, AZ, C-N-N, GZA, KRS-One, etc). I mean it is nice to reflect on your earlier work for inspiration, but they don’t have to name their albums as a “Part 2” of their debuts.

On the other hand, though, they do it for shock value to get people interested and hyped. Just imagine Busta saying “My next album is going to be like ELE”. Not a lot of people are going to take that seriously, but if he simply puts “(Insert 90s Busta album) 2” as his title, then more people will be on the look-out for it. Some people are more visual than auditory as they’ll remember seeing the album title but more than likely won’t remember the interview.
