Drake Withdraws Legal Action Against UMG & Spotify Over Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Not Like Us’

Drake has officially withdrawn his legal action against Universal Music Group and Spotify after accusing the music giants of scheming to illegally inflate Kendrick Lamar‘s “Not Like Us.”

In a surprise twist in the bombshell legal saga, the Toronto rapper and his company Frozen Moments filed legal paperwork in New York on Tuesday (January 14) informing the court that they were withdrawing the petition, which requested information from the two companies for a potential future lawsuit.

The filing, which has been viewed by HipHopDX, notes that Drake and/or his representative(s) “met and conferred with [UMG and Spotify] on January 14, 2025 regarding this filing.”

It says Spotify, which previously filed an opposition to the petition, responded by expressing “no objection to the withdrawal and discontinuance.”

UMG, which did not submit a legal response to Drake’s initial filing, “reserved its position.”

The action was also withdrawn “without costs to any party,” according to the document. No reason was cited for Drake’s decision to withdraw.

Last November, the 6 God accused UMG — the parent company of both his and Kendrick Lamar’s respective record labels) of using streaming bots and payola to artifically boost the popularity of Kendrick’s chart-topping diss track, “Not Like Us.”

The petition was not an actual lawsuit but rather a pre-action petition to determine whether it was worth filing an official complaint.

UMG denied any wrongdoing, saying in a statement: β€œThe suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns.

“No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.”

Spotify also maintained its innocence, claiming that they never had an illicit “arrangement” with UMG to give “Not Like Us” a leg-up nor did they engage in any “deceptive practices.”

Another petition filed against UMG and iHeartMedia in Texas, containing similar payola allegations regarding “Not Like Us,” remains active.

Drake has yet to comment on his withdrawal of the UMG and Spotify petition, while Kendrick Lamar has never publicly commented on the legal dispute.

A court hearing in the Texas case is scheduled for January 28, barring any withdrawal or settlement.

      1. the song burnt down LA. LA is over. IT’s not just another wildfire. You’ll see the business there is finished for good. LA rap is done. When they rebuild there won’t be any room for a black community. Not Like Us was defamatory when LA existed as a city. Now that it’s basically a homeless shelter the song is the biggest joke on LA that ever existed.

      2. My butthole is burnt out. It’s like a wildfire and will never go out. My back is blown out and it’s done. As part of the rainbow community I’m proud to be a Drake fan. OvHoe is the biggest gay groupie pedophile sex cult to ever exist.

      3. How is a place where the biggest celebrities in the US live basically a homeless shelter? You sound stupid as fuck. Speaking of homeless, have you seen Quebec? Notice Drake doesn’t donate a dollar to that broke ass shithole.

    1. Its good to know BBLDRIZZY did the right thing for the culture. Maybe the white boi really is #BLACKSOMETIMES.

      1. sounds so stupid. but you know that this site. why spend money on something obvious. Song cursed LA. It’s gone forever. Just like 9-11 destroyed New York rap. Benderick rapping trash from a bombed out homeless shelter only makes Drake look more boss than ever

    2. black people don’t own a fucking thing in hip hop and rap. Black folks don’t own a fucking thing in LA so that means when they rebuild black folks won’t be a part of it. so why bother suing. whatever y’all had in LA burned down. No ownership means you can’t get it back

      1. I own the second largest butt plug collection behind Diddy. I love BBC and want to be someone’s butt slave

      1. Not gay, just a few hyper pansexual with effeminate male tendencies and a desire to crossdress every now and then.

    3. Bet anything, they either said “we’ll reveal your fake numbers to everyone” or said “you’ll go down as quickly as Diddy after he tried to sue” and Drake immediately shut the fuck up.

    4. FUCK YALL IM SUCKING AND FUCKING DICKS UNTIL DRAKE GETS HIS FIRST WIN OF THE YEAR. FUCK YOU K-THOT BENDRICK LOVING BITCHES

    5. Tried my first gloryhole last night. Coincidentally met greg after he topped me off. Yes, it is better to give than receive but since I finished in his mouth, I think he got the better deal.
