Drake has quickly followed up the release of $ome $exy $ongs 4 U by dropping a leftover track from the album featuring an artist he calls his “GOAT.”
Sharing the track on his burner Instagram account @plottttwistttttt on Monday (February 17), Drizzy revealed that the song did not make the album due to sample clearance issues.
While he did not reveal who the artist is, the track is a solo effort from New Orleans bounce artist Heaven.
On her own Instagram page, the up-and-coming rapper hinted that the song could appear on a deluxe version of Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR‘s collaborative album.
“Yeah he’s saving the best for next for sure. $$$. Drake’s deluxe album?” she wrote.
Released last week on Valentine’s Day (February 14), $ome $exy $ongs 4 U features a handful of rising stars including Mexican singer Chino Pacas, Houston-based songstress Pim and Yebba, who previously appeared on Drake’s Certified Lover Boy.
Despite mixed reviews from fans and critics alike, the album has made an immediate splash on streaming services. On Spotify, it earned 56.6 million first-day streams, which is the second biggest debut of the year so far behind The Weeknd‘s Hurry Up Tomorrow.
Over on Apple Music, the project broke the all-time record for the biggest single-day streams for an R&B album.
$ome $exy $ongs 4 U also helped Drake temporarily eclipse his archnemesis Kendrick Lamar for the most single-day Spotify streams by a rapper this year with 92.4 million.
The album is likely to make a considerable dent on next week’s Billboard 200 chart, although it’s currently unclear how many first-week units it could rack up.
Two famous figures who are enjoying the project so far are Kanye West and Young Thug. Despite his on-again, off-again rivalry with the 6 God, Ye praised album cut “Gimme a Hug” by calling it “incredible.”
The track finds Drake addressing his “20 vs. 1” beef that erupted last year while taking a shot at longtime foe Joe Budden.
Thugger, who has remained loyal to the OVO Sound founder throughout his recent setbacks, celebrated the early success of his new album by tweeting: “That boy back number one.”
Why this better than all the trash those Canucks put out. I thought his greatest was Wayne, He, or Aaliyah bro keeps switching up biggest bandwagon ever Drake
Da boy sucks ass. What was he thinking releasing this crap. His singing is horrible and his rapping is either off tempo or corny at times. Guess this is the fall off for him. He’s had a good run.
