Miami, FL

It’s not every day Drake pops up at someone’s college class, but that was the case last week when the 6 God made a guest-speaking appearance at Dave Grutman’s hospitality experience at Florida International University in Miami.

The 400 students on hand were ecstatic to see Drizzy draped in all-black threads on Thursday (November 3) night just mere hours prior to he and 21 Savage’s Her Lossjoint album hitting streaming services.

Drake sat next to Miami nightlife mogul Dave Grutman and served up plenty of life gems while reflecting on his decorated career.

“I think it’s still amazing that at 8:30 at night, you’re all still sitting here and trying to learn something and trying to elevate yourselves,” he began.

“Exploration as an artist really just boils down to confidence. I think you have to find the balance between doing what you know works for you and what you know people love you for, but also giving yourself a shock, waking yourself up because it can become very formulaic.”

Drake also admitted that he and 21 finished the album around noon ET on Thursday, which would be about 12 hours before it hit streaming services. He also remembered days when no labels wanted to sign him even after sitting down with the likes of JAY-Z and Dr. Dre in the mid-2000s.

“I remember going around New York with my uncle early in my career,” he added. “I sat in front of every label. I sat in front of JAY-Z, Lenny, and I sat in front of Dr. Dre.

“Throughout my career, I wasn’t the ‘thing’ hip-hop was known for. I paved my own lane and excelled in it.”

The 6 God wasn’t the only talent Grutman had make an appearance throughout the seminar, as DJ Khaled and Victoria Beckham also were guest speakers on other class nights during the semester.
