Drake has paid tribute to battle rapper Pat Stay following his stabbing death.
Drizzy took to his Instagram Stories on Sunday (September 4) to mourn the Nova Scotia rapper, calling the fellow Canadian one of his favorite rappers of all time.
“RIP to the Sucka Free Boss @patstay_902 one of my fav rappers ever,” he wrote while sharing a photo of Stay in action at his OVO and King of the Dot “Blackout 5″ battle rap event.

Pat Stay was reportedly stabbed in downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia in the early hours of Sunday morning.
According to CBC News, Halifax Regional Police were called to the 1600 block of Lower Water Street at around 12:36am with reports of a stabbing, where a man was taken to a nearby hospital and later died from his injuries. A source close to the situation confirmed to HipHopDX that the incident took place at a local bar.
Police didn’t initially identify Pat Stay as the victim, but his brother, Peter Stay, confirmed his passing at the age of 36.
Other figures in the Hip Hop community such as The Alchemist and Royce Da 5’9 also paid tribute to Pat Stay on social media.
“‘I can moonwalk with steel toe boots on’ Rest in peace Pat Stay,” The Alchemist wrote on Twitter. “Battle Rap icon and king. If u know me u know i always thought he was the best. I’m hurt.”
Royce Da 5’9 also posted a photo of Pat Stay with the caption: “A GREAT man… Rest Peacefully.”
Pat Stay called out The Game in August for dissing Eminem on “The Black Slim Shady,” which appeared on his new album Drillmatic: Heart Vs. Mind. On Friday (September 2), Stay dropped his own diss track aimed at the Compton rapper featuring Kaleb Simmonds.

I don’t understand the whole battle rap thing. Seems like a bunch of aggressive wannabe wrestler dudes that don’t really rhyme on beat and want to get up in everybody face like that. I personally could not handle some dude literally spitting in my face as they rhyme some schoolyard insult at me. Hands would be thrown. But that’s why I’m not built for all that and others are. RIP
Youre like Jim Jones. Way too sensitive.
In the span of three sentences, you answered your own question. The reason you don’t get it, is exactly the same as the reason you aren’t built for it. Battle rappers have the ability to not be fazed by insults on stage while having to deliver those insults back on the spot. Battle rap is its own dimension.
I’ve seen real emcee battles in person most notably Supernatural vs Mad Skillz back in the 90s. Obviously that’s like Jordan vs Dominique and not every battle can measure up. But those guys rhymed on beat and insulted each other with punchlines. That’s the kind of battle I expect to see, not this “new dimension” of mostly cheese I’ve seen on YouTube
YOU NEED TO WATCH A PAT STAY BATTLE AND YOU WILL SEE WHY HE IS ARGUABLY THE BEST TO EVER DO IT.
I’m not crazy about battle rap either, but still, you shouldn’t let childish insults make you react that way. It only means you’ve given them what they wanted.
Drake has just unfollowed Gayme and is planning a hit on him!!
