Drake Introduces OVO Sound’s First Female Artist: ‘Been Waiting For This Day’

Drake has introduced the first female artist signed to his OVO Sound label.

Dutch/Caribbean singer Naomi Sharon released two new singles, “Another Life” and “Celestial,” on Friday (January 20), with Drizzy’s longtime collaborator Noah “40” Shebib contributing production to both songs.

Following the releases, the Her Loss hitmaker took to Instagram to officially welcome Sharon to his label and share his excitement about her new music.

“@naomisharon I been waiting for this day for too long now where the world finally gets to digest the insane amount of work you have put in since we met,” he wrote. “My dear friend just dropped her single Another Life on OVO SOUND.”

Sharon thanked Drake on her Instagram Stories, writing: “Words cannot express how happy I am I can finally share this news with the world. And I cannot thank you enough for this insane opportunity.”

Shebib also praised the newly-minted OVO singer, writing in his own Instagram post: “@naomisharon I’m honoured to be a part of this journey. Im so proud of you and can’t wait for the world to hear the rest of what you’ve been working on. New music out NOW! @ovosound.”

Naomi Sharon joins the likes of Drake, PARTYNEXTDOOR, dvsn, Popcaan, Majid Jordan, Roy Woods and Baka Not Nice on OVO Sound’s roster. Born in Rotterdam, the singer released her first single “The Moon” in 2019, with follow-up tracks “Breeze,” “Hills” and “Daughter of the Sun” each accumulating over two million streams on Spotify alone.

“My inspiration comes from past events or journeys I’ve made, physically and mentally,” she previously told REYÈM. “I’m most curious about what’s outside of this planet. The universe keeps my head busy.”

As for what keeps her mentally stimulated, she said: “Pretty much through music and deep conversations I have with friends. It brings me a lot of peace and it also inspires me to write.”

“Another Life” was accompanied by a moody, blue-hued music video, which was directed by Yavez Anthonio.

“My heart is aching / I promised myself I wouldn’t break it / This time you can’t play around / Don’t let me find it all out, again / Love is a wicked game / Still we play it, still we play it,” she sings on the record.

    1. I didn’t know what to expect…sure it’s not hiphop/rap but it’s still good. It’s not the type of music i would buy. But still a good calm song.

    2. Hey everyone, welcome one and all to this forum of like minded souls!! Good mornin’ to ya!! Hope y’all are having a tip top day! Interesting news but not that interesting. Seems like “Gun Control” means ‘both hands’ in many cities right now.…In the meantime, this “news” gets published whilst completely ignoring a week that saw massive underground releases from Capper Caveman, Daddio Golden-Arches, Shaftesbury Butlers, Grinch Minority, Herod Sherrod, Inspectah Boring, etc. Its only the start of 2023, and Big Grandma’s “Bouncer Better Have My Moth”, which is an early call for hip hop album of the year, is nowhere to be found on this site. Let’s all unite as one and show some love for Big Grandma in the comments. Praise be! “As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, worthless fellows, surrounded the house, beating on the door. And they said to the old man, the master of the house, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we may know him.”
