In anticipation of MTV’s Hottest MCs list, RapFix spoke with Drake about his choices for hottest emcees in the game. During the interview, he picked expected rappers like J. Cole, Rick Ross and Kendrick Lamar, but he name-checked La the Darkman when he really was referring to Willie the Kid.
“Rick Ross, obviously, number one. J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar… Bars, who had bars? Oh man. I really want to mention this guy, because he’s so good. He dropped a mixtape. He had a song called ‘Sunz of Man’ and ‘Waste Not Want Not,’” he said, mistaking La for Willie. “I think it was La the Darkman though? Amazing bars on that.”
He also gave props to Meek Mill, Jay-Z and Kanye West, bigging up Maybach Music Group for their stellar 2011. “Meek had a great year. The whole Maybach Music had a great year,” he added.
