Drake Leads Pack For BET Awards Nominations

Drake is leading the way for this year’s BET Awards with nine nominations, almost double the five that Beyoncé and Rihanna received to put them in a tie for second spot.

Toronto’s most popular cultural export has been nominated in several categories, including Video Of The Year (for “Hotline Bling”), Best Group (for his collab with Future), and Best Male Hip-Hop Artist. He’s been nominated in that last category each year since he dropped his Thank Me Later debut in 2010, winning that year, and again in 2012 and 2014.

Last year that award went to Kendrick Lamar, who is listed in the category again, as well as for Video Of The Year for “Alright.”

Also up for Best Male Hip-Hop artist: J. Cole, Fetty Wap, Future and Kanye West.

Today’s announcement makes Drizzy the most nominated male in the 16-year history of the awards, but he’s still in second place overall behind Beyoncé, who also leads for the most wins with 19.

She’ll have a chance to nab some more, with nominations including Best Female Pop/R&B artist, and Video Of The Year for “Formation.”

The ceremony, which celebrates African Americans and other minorities in entertainment and sports, airs live from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 26 at 5:00 p.m. PST.
