Drake has been awarded the key to the city of Memphis, specifically Shelby County, where he spent childhood summers and often raps about in his music.
Drizzy, whose father is from Memphis, has often cited Memphis as a second home, noting that the city has made a serious impact on his musical style. During a ceremony on Monday (June 26), Shelby County Chairman Mickell M. Lowery expressed his gratitude to the 6 God for “putting Memphis all in your music on the map,” and said the key is meant to honor the Memphis essence Drizzy utilizes in his music.

“We always say Memphis music touches the world and like I told you, you got a lot of Memphis blood in you, and you’re definitely touching the world,” the chairman said. “Not everybody has a key to the Shelby County. We only give that to our own that we love dear.”
“Dad you got this yet?” Drake says, teasing his father.
“They gave me the key to the hotel downstairs,” his father joked.
The exciting update comes after Drake released his first-ever poetry book with Kenza Samir on Friday (June 23) called Titles Ruin Everything/A Stream of Consciousness. To promote the book, Drizzy took out full-page advertisements in publications like the New York Post and Houston Chronicle, which featured a QR code navigating fans to a website with a statement highlighting the upcoming project.
“I made an album to go with the book,” the declaration read. “They say they miss the old Drake girl don’t tempt me. FOR ALL THE DOGS.” However, no other details regarding the project — such as a release date — were disclosed.
The upcoming project will mark the Toronto native’s fourth in a two-year span following 2021’s Certified Lover Boy, last year’s house-inspired Honestly, Nevermind and his full-length collaboration with 21 Savage, Her Loss.
