Drake Receives Gift From PETA After OVO Clothing Brand Ditches Animal Fur

Drake has received a gift from animal rights organization PETA after his OVO clothing line announced that it would no longer be using animal fur in its products.

PETA revealed that it had sent the Canadian rapper a box of vegan chocolate bunnies as a thank you for ending the use of real fur in its clothing.

The org also said in a statement: “Here’s a toast to @champagnepapi! Clothing and lifestyle brand October’s Very Own (OVO), cofounded by Canadian rapper Drake, has confirmed that it will no longer sell products with real animal fur.

“The decision follows pressure from PETA and more than 100,000 e-mails to the brand from PETA’s supporters urging the company to ban fur—including fur from rabbits and coyotes. In thanks, we’ve sent the company some delicious bunny–shaped vegan chocolates.”

PETA added: “OVO’s decision puts them in good company alongside the overwhelming majority of fashion and clothing businesses that are shunning the hideously cruel fur industry. Fur belongs on the animals who were born with it, not on jackets or footwear—or anything else.”

While Drake is now in the good graces of animal rights activists, Pharrell Williams recently found himself confronted by campaigners at the premiere of his movie Piece by Piece.

Pharrell, who is also the creative director of menswear for Louis Vuitton, ran afoul of protestors in Canada over the company’s use of animal fur.

An unnamed female protester yelled out: “Stop torturing animals!” while holding up a sign that read: “Pharrell: Stop Supporting Killing Animals for Fashion.”

Pharrell appeared unflustered as he responded by telling the protestor: “You’re right. You’re right. You’re right. God bless you,” before urging the crowd to give her a round of applause.

Despite Pharrell’s comments, Louis Vuitton has not yet announced any changes to its policies around the use of animal fur.

The rapper, producer and fashion designer previously drew the ire of PETA last year with his “Millionaire” Speedy bag for Louis Vuitton.

The luxury item, priced at a staggering $1 million, was made out of crocodile skin, angering animal rights activists who accused him of cruelty towards animals.
