Drake appears on the cover of Vibe’s upcoming Winter issue, which is the publication’s race-centered edition. In the magazine, Drake speaks about his experiences facing racism due to having a multi-cultural background.
“The racism I experienced was being Jewish,” Drake says in the interview with Vibe. “Jewish kids didn’t understand how I could be black and Jewish…It was just stupid, annoying rich kids that were close-minded and mean.”
In the interview, Drake also addresses his supposed feud with Kendrick Lamar.
“I don’t ever want to get into responses,” Drake said when asked if Nothing Was The Same’s “The Language” is a Kendrick Lamar diss. “It’s a commitment to go there. ‘The Language’ is just energy. What it was inspired by, I’m sure that, and other things. It’s just me talking my shit. I never once felt the need to respond to that record. The sentiment he was putting forth is what he should have. Of course you wanna be the best. Where it became an issue is that I was rolling out an album while that verse was still bubbling, so my album rollout became about this thing. What am I supposed to say? ‘Nah, we’ll be buddy-buddy?’ Mind you, I never once said he’s a bad guy [or] I don’t like him. I think he’s a fucking genius in his own right, but I also stood my ground as I should. And with that came another step, which then I have to realize I’m being baited and I’m not gonna fall. Jordan doesn’t have to play pickup to prove that he could play ball, no offense. But I’m not gonna give you the chance to shake me necessarily, ’cause I feel great. There’s no real issue. It’s tough because the people wanna see us tear each other down. I don’t wanna give them that. There’s no point. I have no ill feelings toward that guy. It’s just like, it’s there for me if I wanna fall for it. I’m just too smart for that. Hopefully it’s the last time I gotta talk about this, ’cause every time I open my mouth up about it, they take this piece and take this piece. And he’s hungry, so he’s going to do what he has to do like the BET [cypher]. But again, it’s not enough for me to go. We haven’t seen each other [since the BET cypher], but I’m sure we’ll see each other and it’ll be cool. And if it’s not, then I guess that’s how our story unfolds.”
Recently, it was speculated that Drake responded to Kendrick Lamar’s “Control” verse and his “B.E.T. Hip Hop Awards” cypher verse with his appearance on Future’s “Shit” remix. Top Dawg Entertainment executives reportedly reacted to the track, saying they were unimpressed.
Vibe “The Race Issue,” featuring Drake on the cover, is set to be available nationwide in January.

he doesn’t need to respond to Kendrick directly, he has to let his music do the talking. so far his music is saying “plz fuck me in the ass raw Kendrick please.” Drake could be so much better..
Everyone has the capacity to be better, but what exactly is your point? Kendrick might be a better rapper than Drake, but what does that really prove? Drake might have sold more records, but who cares. Drake’s response was on point. What is the point of falling for the so called bait? It’s the media that adds fuel to the so called fire. He’s smart not to respond because I don’t think Kendrick was dissing anybody. He was simply putting it out there like so many other artists, he feels he is the best.
a very emotional response for someone who claims to not care about it!
What makes his response emotional? How do you think he should have responded? Social Media is the downfall of everything because it gives idiots like you an outlet to talk sh*t with no facts.
Look, a sensitive comment just like Drake’s.
YOOOO THAT COVER LOOKS HILARIOUS
HE LOOKIN LIKE A HOMELESS ELF OR SOME SHIT
this guy is so sensitive, i bet he can’t sleep over this control record still. get over it.
You guys are meanies, he looks too cute in that pic, both of them actually. Me & my friends had a dance off last weekend & listened to Drake all night long, we sang & danced, it was too fun. You guys are hating mean people.
oh gosh, there’s nothing more exhilarating than getting together with your BFFs, throwing on your most COMFIEST jammies, printing out all of Drake’s lyrics and having a read along! Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside just THINKING about it! = D
drake knows kendrick cant phase him. Drake is to big too popular to care what an irrelevent wanna be like kendrick says about him. He doesnt have to try to go at kendrick because it will just help kendrick get popular off a name like drake. Drake is the king of this rap shit and he knows it. He knows that he doesnt have to try to have the biggest hits and the highest sales. Drake runs this rap shit its an absolute fact that drake is more sucessfull and better than kendrick in terms of numbers so learn to accept facts kendrick nerd groupies.
How does Drake’s dick taste, lying stanley?
@Anonymous the same way Kendrick’s taste in yours
i wonder who waxed his jew brows for that cover
You anti-Semitic prick, you Farrakhan disciples got sand in your vaginas because a Canadian is pooping hot turds on your American rappers with sales and doesnt need your gay Young Money to sell records?
im actually from canada
You are a fucking idiot.
“and doesnt need your gay Young Money to sell records?”
he’s signed to young money, what are you talking about?..
Was Houng Money on his album asshole?
birdman, that detail dude, they’re a part of ymcmb..
It wouldn’t surprise if he went at KL using bars bought off of them KOTD cats.

Drake shittin on the hippie again! Drake is the best selling rapper outside of America and he did it in a couple years!! Look at the Elf Kendricks ears hes a Elf for the holidays! Drake runs rap you haters!
Wrong, Drake dickrider.
How can you run rap when he sings on every song and doesn’t even make hip-hop music?
He’s from Canada so your first statement made sense, the best selling rapper IN America is Em. But what does Kendricks ear have to do with anything? You into man ears or something? II pause
Honestly if I were him I would just no press whatsoever. He’s certainly ubiquitous enough.. Do zero interviews and just drop albums… Or if he does do press do it with non related hip hop/non urban blogs and publications… Hip hop urban blogs definitely try and push him into a corner and onto the culture as a whole (in this scenario beef with Kendrick)
he should just do interviews in Cosmo
Everybody’s trying too hard.
drake became king in 2011 lol, this year Kendrick took the throne.
nah drakes still on top, kendricks the king of new york tho
Top of R&B.
In my opinion no one has the taken the throne yet, it’s still vacant
Yeah who asked for your opinion
lol at “and dropped 2013’s best album”.. FOH.. that shit was average at best..
best album of 2013 was the gifted hands down…
WALE HAD THE BEST ALBUM OF 2013? YOU GOTTA BE FUCKING JOKIN
up to I looked at the paycheck which was of $8732, I have faith that…my… neighbour woz really receiving money part time at their computer.. there best friend has been doing this for only about twenty two months and as of now took care of the debts on their house and got a new Maserati. Read Full Report… http://www.Fb39.com
what rapper wouldn’t want to make a song guaranteed to be heard by millions of fans in the most profitable demographic, pre-teens and females?
Drake just confirmed that he is afraid that he could possibly “lose” this battle.. Its not “tearing each other down”. One person gets torn down; one person emerges.. He’s afraid to lose. If you know you’re going to win – and this is some guy taking shots at you.. You’re going to kill em. Just like all the old hiphop greats did. But I forgot.. Drake is a singer
You’re ignorant. If Jordan played every player that called him out 1 on 1 he’d have no energy to play an actual game. Instead, I’ll see you when it actually matters. Get a ring first. Dummy
DRAKE IS NO JORDAN. RECORD SALES DO NOT EQUATE GREATNESS. ONLY WAY YOU CAN PROVE GREATNESS IS ACTUALLY STEPPING INTO THE RING. SINCE WHEN DID DRAKE BECOME LYRICAL LIKE LUPE FIASCO OR TALIB KWELI?
drake gets too much hate on this site. I can picture the haters all sad at their lives sitting behind the computer all day trolling on all drake articles
drake gets too much stans on this site. I can picture the stans all sad at their lives sitting behind the computer all day trolling on all drake articles
Is Lil Wayne black listed? I know his music sucks and his fanbase consists of 15 year old white girls, but he was relevant for a while. He wasn’t nominated for nothing or performing at big events after saying that Emnit Till line
He aint whiteballed or whitelisted out the game but I heard whispers behind the scenes that them Jews aint to pleased about Cash Money trying to rape that boy Drake.
But yeah mane people move on, what was hot the other week aint hot this week, thats how the game go. Kanye & Good Music aint as hot Ross and MMG aint as hot but the white rappers are hot as fuck.
thats hiphop. one minute your hot then your not. theres a large wave of new artists going mainstream and taking the spotlight.
“It was just stupid, annoying rich kids that were close-minded and mean.”
Where’s the ADL to talk shit about this now?!?!?
That magazine title is a joke right?
Wow! A Fear of a Black Planet Vibe issue with Frake on the cover! That shit is brilliant because Drake represents the actual fear that Frances’s Cress Welsing talks about and made PE title their album that!
Magazine Title is pitiful
eww ahahah what an ugly nigga
he deosn’t want it with a more lyrical rapper than him.
THIS NIGGA CANT GET ANY MORE CORNY. YOU DONT WANT ANYMORE OF K DOT THATS WHY YOU ON HIS NUTS, DIDNT THINK THAT BET CYPHER WOULD OF BLOWN UP AS MUCH AS YOU THOUGHT HUH EMOTIONAL ASS NIGGA
there are darkskinned jewish people under the religion of Judaism..and then theirs drake lol a hybrid or darkwalker as some would say… they pose as black to get black notoriety…but when something ni99erish happens they have the ablity to turn white
he’s half black, half jewish. so what the fuck is u saying.
reality is justin timberlake, Keisha cole, drake and tiger woods now beyonce are fence jumpers meaning they pose as black and white when its convenient .. they take jobs from black actors, musicians and are the new face of black in america…meanwhile if your the color of kelly rolland u dont exist and have to fight to survive
Jordan doesnt have to play pickup to prove that he could play ball, no offense. But Im not gonna give you the chance to shake me necessarily, cause I feel great. T
*************************************************************
basically, this kid is entitled and feel he is too good to compete. this is not hip hop. but again, he thinks record sales alone mean something.
While Ive never heard a bad verse from Kendrick, no one can say Drake isn’t at the top right now. The reality is that Drake has become more of a household name then Kendrick will probably ever be. Similar to how Lil Wayne was at the top.
By no means am I say that Drake is a better rapper than Kendrick, but you cant deny him his crown either. There’s a lot of ignorant comments on here, but what it all comes down to is who is making the most money, and who has a majority of fans looking their way.
You cant even compare there talents, or at least its hard to. Drake’s ability to sing and rap, and be above average in both areas makes him very versatile on a beat.
Kendrick is a crazy lyricist, and is a better rapper if you look at it with an old school perspective. He caters more to those who like hip hop/rap at its very core.
Fact is, is that if they both went verse for verse, itd be a lot closer than people would think.
wait drake is above average at singing? smh
Jewish, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, Arab, Indian and Mixed are not races. You can be anyone of those categories and still be considered BLACK or WHITE.
Drake is BLACK and that’s why he got picked on. Jewish had nothing to do with it. He’s derived from a mixed lineage but he himself is a BLACK male. White people love to confuse Non-White people so Non-White people don’t join forces.
Hell if you think I’m bullshittn ya just think about all those categories above and find out where they came from and who said who was gonna be what.
“Jewish, Hispanic, Latino, Asian, Arab, Indian and Mixed are not races.” Your fuckin retarded. There are skin tones that I would definately consider neither black nor white. Your ignorant af, study world cultures and there people thts wht tha internet is for
hes more white than he is black dog.
Speaking from the UK perspective up until the late 80s or so. Anyone that wasn’t white was pretty much considered black.
Indian or Arab are skin tones?
lol
kanye west and lil waynes have to act ultra tough and sell teens into a life of disrepair and hardship through consumerism..and the lightskins get sold ideas like love and marriage and get a passs for being themselves.
No Black independent Ownership…even vibe has to sell out for u to flip through it
First of all, what a god awful cover photo, like what the fuck. Secondly, “the race issue: exploring America’s fear of a black planet”? huhh?? is everyone just fucking idiots and feed off of perpetual instigation and have no common sense? i ain’t even read the article but what a bullshit headline
pretty soon this site will be called badr&bwith somehiphopdx but blacks are too busy being stepped on by black rappers to support them…this is white entertainment…it sold out..just let it happen
Disappointed in VIBE for crowning Drake. Though he’s better than Wayne he is not Kendrick. Kendrick was all over the place with hit features. Drake is just hot for right now. You have to look at the full body of work. Kendrick verse was the verse of the decade and nobody else was even close.
The year DRAKE became King??? Look I like Drake but this is a fucking ridiculous title considering the fact that Kendrick basically owned hip hop in 2013.
“The sentiment he was putting forth…”
i can hear his voice sayin that in my head and all i got to say is MEN DO NOT TALK LIKE THIS
you do if you come from drakes more than wholesome upbringing until switches to his black face game “worst behavior”
kendrick gotta market himself MORE… miley cyrus for example uses cats as a marketing tool….matter of fact everything most common to human life can be used to make yourself a household name. but cats are one of the highest searched things on YOUTUBE. miley in the top 5 google searches because when u search for cat she pops up for her vma perfomance… the more people know u good or bad determines how much many people come to your shows and buy your albums
Dudes coming off a bitch whining about Kendrick’s control verse coming out when he’s trying to promote his album. Like it was even Kendrick who put out a Big Sean song…
Like those cats are real concerned about your new album’s promotion.
He had 1 of the top 3 selling hip-hop albums of the year and he’s still complaining!
i like drake though only because hes a producer/rapper same reason kanye pharell and timbaland are tight to me…its like they have more creative control or something…or beat making ablity
Drake doesn’t even produce, you idiot.
lawlz
He’s a rapper/singer/song-writer and has won an award for his song writing. But he’s definitely not a producer LOL.
I AM WHITE. I FEEL VERY AWKWARD WHEN DRAKE USES THE N-WORD. IT’S WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS.
dont just call out drake dont forget cole now haha if you gotta problem like that eail ym
This guy is one of the reasons hiphop is soo corny now. I can’t believe this guy is being pushed by the label.
“But Im not gonna give you the chance to shake me necessarily, cause I feel great.”
Dude basically admitted he scared. Wow.
Jordan didnt have to play a pick up game but he did go hard at players that tested him. Drake you know nothing about hiphop and you know less about American basketball. Stick to acting or singing.
This nigga looks like an avatar in that cover lmao.
I think the people of today don’t understand the essence of hip hop. I grew up in The Bronx around people who were around were there when this culture was growing and forming, so I feel many of the comments backing and hyping up Drake are stupid. Drake is just a trend in rap but Kendrick is already on his way to becoming a legend. He has the backing of people like Eminem, MC Eiht, Snoop, Dre, and many others. Nothing was the same is poppin in the moment but it’s never going to be a classic. Section 80 and Good Kid Maad City are looked at as a progression in hip hop culture. Hip hop has never been about record sales, it’s always been about skills on the mic first and foremost. The selling of an album is just an aid to the greatness of an already great artist. Look back at historic records, many of them weren’t platinum sellers but they penetrated the culture. As far as Drake Vs Kendrick goes, Drake is lame for addressing the situation but backing off afterwards, saying that he, “wouldn’t diss”. It’s like taking a jab at someone then running away. I think Drake knows that Kendrick will rip him to shreds. Drake can hold a few bars but the disses that threw at Kendrick were soft and Kendrick could rip him easily. Drake raps for radio, Kendrick raps for skill. It’s cool to have a couple radio singles but what’s the use of you’re doing everything else that’s on the radio.
Disagree man. Grew up in Brooklyn with hip hop and been following it since I heard Grandmaster Caz. Drake is not just a trend in hiphop. He changed hiphop. The problem is people do not really understand that Drake is an excellent songwriter. You can hate his music all you want (and yeah, every backpacker does) but anyone who is a true artist / musician / MC and really spends sometime listening and dissecting his music has to admit the guy is very talented and he takes risks that other pop artists do not. I mean “Im on One”, “Marvins Room” and “Started from Bottom” are far from conventional hip-hop, R&B or pop songs. They are weird, different and not-supposed-to-happen. That’s what great artists are all about. And BTW, living in New York area, the hatred for the top mainstream artist is absolutely nothing new at all nor is criticizing the top artists because of them being too pop/R&B. Biggie Smalls/Puffy were loathed at the time – everyone was saying it sounded too West Coast, too “pop”, too R&B etc. When Biggie died, so many mothafuckas changed their tune it was unreal. Suddenly, they love Biggie. Jay-Z during the “Jigga My Nigga” period also got a lot of flack for not being lyrical enough. Backpackers hated him. West Coast – 2Pac – loathed by many n NY at the “All Eyes on Me” time – plenty of people called west coast dumb lyrical wise. DO you remember the West Coast and East Coast War? That didn’t come from nothing. Plenty NY folk straight hated West Coast artists and said they weren’t lyrical, fake gangsta etc.. Even De La Soul dropped that “daisy” hip hop back in the day and people were laughing at it like its hippy crap. They loathed that crap. Up to the last 5 years, even Southern hiphop was hated in New York (prob still is to an extent). But now, they have a new target – Drake. I know haters want Drake to be a joke but sorry.. Drake aint Prince Be, He aint Fresh Prince, He aint Ja Rule, He aint Ill Al Scratch – hes got better lyrics, accolodates, number one hits, club tracks etc. than prob all those guys. Drake is dominating hiphop right now like Jay-Z, Kanye, Eminem, Biggie etc. These guys change the music for better or worse. Ive been following the music for years. People romanticize the past but look at Beastie Boys, Look at LL Cool J “I need Love”, Look at Main Source “Looking at the Front DOor” or Biz Markie “Just a Friend”. Sensitive rap has always existed and not every major artist rhymed with the sophisticated “ghetto intellect” style of NaS. You talk about Kendrick like he is a legend and that is fine, he has the right endorsements and he is very talented (he will go down as a legend) but to me, Section 80 was great – not blow-my-mind amazing. Cartoons and Cereal was blow-my-mind amazing but that’s it. GKMC was also real good but even less blow-my-mind amazing. To me, its kind of boring like listening to “The Roots” – a high concept album but don’t want to listen to that shit at a club, when I hit the gym, when Im starting a party etc. Kendrick still got some stuff to prove. Drake’s challenge is he needs to drop an undisputed classic. Take Care was close. NWTS was close but he needs an album. He has classic songs IMO: “November 18th”, “Motto”, “Started from the Bottom” , “Marvins Room” etc. These songs will be played for years. I don’t see this for Kendrick yet. I mean even all his biggest songs are Drake-Related (Swimming Pools is produced by OVO T-Minus, F**Kin Problem is Drake produced and with Drake, Poetic Justice is the same). Drake needs a solidified classic that’s wins over even the most hardcore hiphop fans but Kendrick got to drop an amazing big song to me still. “Control” aint it to me.
How is “Started from Bottom” far from a conventional hip-hop, R&B or pop song?
seriously man? SFTB – the entire song uses the exact the same melodic flow in its entirely – start to end. It almost sounds like singing but its still rap. Its also so sparse minimal. before it, I heard nothing like it. Content-wise – not really revolutionary, Its his “Hard Knock Life”, “Lose Yourself”, “Juicy” etc. Nothing new there but I am talking musically, to me, it was a very unique approach and track. It sounds different than typical boom-bap. Only guy it sort of reminds me of is like Future.
MEH just copy-pasted an old comment full of lies.
“seriously man? SFTB – the entire song uses the exact the same melodic flow in its entirely – start to end. It almost sounds like singing but its still rap. Are you on drugs? SFTB sounds like every other goddamn mainstream rap song out there. There’s nothing different/unique about it. The trap beat, the lazy rapping, the repetitive hook, I can name 100+ songs that sounds liek SFTB. Everything you said here and in your paragraph is all a lie.
Ok. Name that trap song that it sounds like. It had to come out before SFTB
Basically anything made by Lex Luger, Mike Will, Young Chop, Zaytoven, and other trap producers.
You gotta love how the Drake stan overthinks shit to make his hero look like God.
Dude. I listen to Lex Luger all day, everyday. He is amazing but I can think of no song structure like SFTB esp in regard to his Drake’s flow an and general approach to the song. The production sure – Mike Will made the beat anyways. I’m talking about how the song sounds – the melody and how the chorus differentiates from the verses – that ain’t a normal for a pop or rap song – it’s innovative. No one is saying drake is a god but the problem with you haters is you try to dismiss drake as some simple-ass Ja Rule nonsense. Man I can’t listen to Ja Rule or Nelly – that shit sucks. Everyone is entitled to their taste in music but anyone who thinks Drake isn’t at least talented and innovativing music just frankly does not have a strong grip on understanding music and song structure. He is pushing the envelope every time. That’s how he is able to inspire so much hatred. When you break the tradition and you get the conservative upset as hell. It has been happening in hip hop for years. It happened with NWA (people back lashed heavy on gangsta rap and people would denigrate it), it happened with Biggie / Puffy (they called Biggie pop), It happened with De La Soul (they called it soft and hippie), I could go on for days. It’s happening now with Drake. Same shit different era. This hip hop shit needs accept change or else it goes the way of funk, disco, punk rather than rock. Pay a little closer to a track like “underground kings” by drake. Listen to the song structure and hook- it’s breaks tons of song-writing structural conventions. MCs are already scrambling, trying to copy it.
soon as I hear SFTB I think of Ice Cream and how Drake’s Wu fanboy is seeping out of the speakers
twice on one album mind you
but I’ll let you over-analyze it
talking about how Drake changed the game, and you claiming to be from the Caz/Cold Crush Bros early days when they did the same harmonizing and rapping on the regular
shame on you, lmmfbao
You really are an idiotic Drake dickrider. SFTB sounds like your typical mainstream rap song. Song structure? The song structure is chorus/verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus, the typical pop song structure; that’s not innovative, I can name tons of songs out there with this structure. Drake’s not doing anything new, he’s not pushing the envelope/changing the game, he’s following the radio-friendly format that’s worked for years. You can’t compare him to legends of the past because he’s not like them at all. Nothing you say is true, it’s all a lie. BTW, Underground Kings is nothing more than typical mainstream rap, it’s not breaking any song-writing structural conventions and no rapper’s trying to copy it.
“It happened with NWA (people back lashed heavy on gangsta rap and people would denigrate it), it happened with Biggie / Puffy (they called Biggie pop), It happened with De La Soul (they called it soft and hippie)”
This shit NEVER happened.
Hmm, let’s see. Trap beat, repetitive hook, lazy French Montana-esque rapping/flow, mentioning money and materialistic possessions, verse/chorus structure. Sounds like standard mainstream rap.
dude experienced racism from jews for being black, and now he experiences racism from black pepole for being jewish
at least hes still got the white people
haha Drake looks like he has down syndrome on this cover lol. What they say like make him look as retarded as possible and throw it on the cover
he looks like an elf or some shit
Drake is just a bitch. He could have dropped a 16 responding directly to Kendrick and got the spotlight right back on him and his project. Instead he went at K dot in interviews saying why he’s too proven to respond, like that’s not a response.
drake is very feminine but its almost like it works in his favor kind if like Prince
Blatant ducking of a challenge. Will whine and bitch in his interviews about how “disrespectful” everyone is and how he’s “tired of being called soft and corny” and yet he wont man up, get in the booth and defend himself.
No heart. Artists like Drake don’t last long when the going gets tough. He’s in the same line as Nelly, Ja, and Fitty.
look at the facts you drake haters. Remember you are a small minority compared to drake fans. Drake is the most popular rapper at the moment fact
Nope. You’re still wrong.
drake has the money to appear as the hottest rapper at the moment…the same way politicians by seats in office…drake can by fame
“Drake is the most popular rapper at the moment fact”
all thanks to little girls, soccer moms and geeks with no taste! fact!
NOBODY SAID DRAKE IS THE MOST POPULAR NIGGA IN THE HOOD THE NIGGA SAID DRAKE IS THE MOST POPULAR RAPPER PERIOD, REGARDLESS OF THE REASONS. HOW CAN YALL DENY THAT?
King….really??….c’mon vibe…smh…
