There’s no stopping Drake’s sixth studio album, Certified Lover Boy, and the 6 God is looking to capitalize on the momentum. According to an article by Variety, Drake has submitted CLB for several categories at the 2022 Grammy Awards.
The report states Certified Lover Boy could be in the running for Album of the year while several tracks off the album are hoping to compete for other awards.
Drake’s chart-topping CLB hit “Way 2 Sexy” featuring Future and Young Thug is aiming to be in the Best Rap Performance category, while “Girls Want Girls” featuring Lil Baby is in the mix for Best Melodic Rap Performance. “No Friends in the Industry,” meanwhile, has been submitted for Best Rap Song.
Drake dissed the Grammys last year when The Weeknd was royally snubbed from all the awards. The Canadian megastar took to his Instagram Story to motivate his peers not to focus on awards show omissions and instead create something new.
“I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exist now and the ones that come after,” he said.
“It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up overtime and pass on to the generations to come.”
Drake also shaded the Grammys during his acceptance speech in 2019 as “God’s Plan” won Best Rap Song. The awards show producers cut Drake off after he claimed awards hold no value.
“We play an opinion-based sport, not a factual-based sport,” he said. “You already won if you have people singing your songs word for word, if they’re singing in your hometown. You’re already winning, you don’t need this right here.”
Drake’s change of heart may come as a result of the crazy numbers that CLB is pulling in. According to Billboard, the album has returned to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for a fifth nonconsecutive week after earning 74,000 equivalent album units.
CLB has been dethroned only three times since debuting atop the chart in early September, with NBA YoungBoy’s Sincerely, Kentrell, Young Thug’s Punk and Taylor Swift’s Fearless (Taylor’s Version) temporarily surpassing the 6 God’s sixth studio album.
ITS WILD WHEN THE GRAMMY COMMITTEE EVEN KNOWS HES PURE FLUFF
Like Quando Rondo said: Stand on what you say. Drake is an attention hoard.
What a hipocrite
I hope he is nominated for all of them only to win nothing. Grammys don’t care.
A part of me feels he might be doing this to see if he’s snubbed to prove what he said the last time. The ball is on your court now Grammy’s.
and don’t get me started about beyonce. the grammys should be throughly judged critically and fairly. we are tired of the same old contestants there are brothers on the come up they should be pushed. drake is over ten years deep. Just my view……………………….
Drake should have won way more Grammys than he has, but he seems to always submit his worst songs and these are no exception. J. Cole is the one that always gets snubbed. Beyonce and JayZ have 50 Grammy’s between, which is ridiculous considering there are some great artists and songs that have never won any at all. Seems like some artist win just because of who they are, that’s what’s so frustrating.
That’s why I stopped watching that bullshit.
Drake is trash, pop rap bs no substance in his catalog at all
