Drake Addresses Speculation Of J. Cole Rivalry, Joins Jay-Z And Others For FUSE Show

Comparisons between rappers J. Cole and Drake have been plentiful both on the Internet and among music fans. With top of the lot co-signs and burgeoning lyrical talent, it is only natural that parallels be made between the two emcees. Drake recently recorded a track called “In the Morning,” for Cole’s newest mixtape Friday Night Lights, and told MTV’s Sway that enmity between the two of them is simply a figment of the public’s imagination.

“Me and [Cole] are probably given many opportunities to try and “out-rap” each other and all that, but [“In the Morning”] is a great record because it’s not about entertaining the “who’s better” debate that I’m sure everyone else is engaged in,” said Drake. “He’s actually my friend. That’s my dog. So we just wanted to do a record that had nothing to do with flexing muscle, [but something] just for the women.”

Drake and J. Cole will team up for a European tour in January. Drake told MTV that he hasn’t gotten a chance to get to know Cole yet, but that they will probably engage in some freestyle sessions while on tour.

“I see Cole at like radio shows when he’s about to go on or I’m about to go on. But on the tour, I think there’ll be plenty of us just spitting.”

Before the tour, however, Drake will be appearing in a televised concert put on by Fuse. The event is called Fuse Presents: Drake Live From Radio City Music Hall, and will include appearances from several top artists like Jay-Z, Swizz Beatz, Fabolous, Trey Songz, and others.

Prior to the airing, Fuse will broadcast an entire day of Drake content, including Loaded: Drake.

The televised event airs on Nov. 24 at 9 P.M. EST.

    1. they both hot
      they not legends yet tho!
if they reach the top, then they’ll meet at the top for supremacy
(side note: audio rating needs a 10 point system; too many are too quick to hand out 5’s like lolipops)
      i love hhdx!!

      1. sorry but drake will never be a legend once his female fanbase jump to the next nigga hes over!! no real nigga listens to a child actor who can’t hit a note for shit talk about his adjustment to fame for the 50th time. to much real problems going on out here.

    2. Im a little confused can someone clarify for me.

1st, “He’s actually my friend. That’s my dog”

Then, Drake told MTV that he hasn’t gotten a chance to get to know Cole yet,

      What gives?!?!?!

    3. wuteva flake. deep down inside u no dat j cole iz betta than u and will rip da shit outta u in a battle. cole’z a 1st clazz rappa and ur a last clazz rappa/singa. go sing 2 lil gayne wit an xxxxxl azzhole u homo bitch.

    4. before all of the JCOLE freaks come on here talkin about he the greatest..that nigga gotta prove himsel..he aint done shit..nothing..he still a mixtape rapper as of now..DRAKE is not..he sellin out shows and got albums out now..yall basing yall reality on bullshit..to keep it fully 100..i give respect to Drake for being one of the first(CUDI AS WELL) for not bein mixtape niggaz forever..that shit turn rappers into wack niggaz and make them look weak in the long run..scared to make hits..dumass dirtybackpackers keepin it real..sound like dum shit to me..if u got talent..use it..dont talk about it for 5 yrs and never blow

      1. I say they’re about a draw(lyrically). I think drake is making better moves though. Your right drake did not ride the whole I’ma just do mixtapes for along ass time and have people waiting on my album until they’re turn grey, like what Papoose, Big Sean and Saigon does. J.cole is more hip hop and drake is more commercial, both still are nice.

      2. You’re saying Drake’s better because he’s released an album recently and J. Cole has released only mixtapes? Bitch please, that doesn’t mean shit about how skilled they are. I guess if what you’re saying is true Drake > R.A. The Rugged Man too then.

      3. lol at this delusional bitch you need to slapped for that cheerleading bullshit

This dude was broke as fuck after he got a college degree, and if any of you doubt him, lets go to drake, who had everything since he was a kid and is making even more money. J cole had to go into debt to finish college, worked dead end jobs and still struggled, I AM NOT hating on Drake, I just respect J.COLE even more for getting his degree, and working his ass off too get where he is today. he didn’t need know industry rappers dick riding every second.

While J Cole makes music for everyday people, hes music will blow up in the long run he will evolve as well.

Drakes shit will be here today gone tomorrow. sad but the truth hurts

      4. WHO THA FUCK U SILLY ASS NIGZ CALLIN A BITCH..WHO THA FUC SAID ANYTHING ABOUT SALES..I WAS TALKIN ABOUT(FOR SILLY NIGZ WHO CANT READ)..DRAKE WASNT SCARED TO STOP BEING A WACK MIXTAPE NIGGA AND SHOW HIS ABILITY..WHATEVER HIS ABILITY..WHATEVER HIS RANK MIGHT END UP BEING..U DUMASS SIMPLE LAME ASS FUCKBOYS..SINCE WE CALLIN NAMES..JCOLE IS STILL IN THE BLEACHERS WAITIN TO GET HIS TURN..HE AINT MADE A MARK YET..THESE IS FACTS..IF THAT NIGGA DROP A WACK ASS DEBUT..U WONT BE HAVIN THIS CONVERSATION..U WILL BE ON TO YO NEXT FAVORITE WACK NIGGA…

BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE SOCIETY OF REAL NIGGAZ TRYIN TO PRESERVE HIPHOP…

      5. stfu and stop ridin flake’z dick life accordin to a gay. tru, j cole hasn’t relesed an album yet but he’z in da lab makin some hot shit for da nonbeliverz and stayin true to himself. flake rushed hiz shit and started makin gay pop muzik wit lil gayne and da rest of cum money.

j cole gon be hot in da near future. just watch nigga. remembah jay-z! started in 88, didn’t relese reasonable doubt until 96 and iz now da king of rap. j cole might end up bein da same way. stop sayin bullshit and suckin flake’z dick bcuz he’z popular. fuck dat bullshit!

        ROC NATION BITCH!

    5. there is no rivalry in our imaginations, the media made up that shit.

people that consume the music know what what it is, the hardcore hiphop heads like cole and drake caters to the pop crowd.

the only similarities are that they are two up and coming stars (and light skinnededed)

like i said the media is jus gonna play this shit like there’s beef brewin when there SHOULDN’T be.any one with a half a brain can see they have two different style and have their own lanes.

    6. Oh, an why the fuck are you people mad a drake for starting his hustle as an actor

“he had it all from the begining ”

No, he had it all since about 8 because he put in work as an actor and started getting those checks for playing kids on shows then he got the Degrassi, stop hating on him just because he made his big break in acting first.

and I know im defending drake, but i actually think J Cole is the better rapper, I just hate you hating as motherfuckers who dislike drake because he didnt have to struggle because he started making money early.

    7. I said it b4 And I will say it again: J Cole got Drake Covered… I liked the Warm Up better than Thank Me Later. subjective, but I think Cole is the only one with true staying power. Drake just talks about strip clubs, shopping, women and throw in some well timed metaphors… J Cole gives u a portrait of his every day life. And forces you to accept him as he is because of his talent, I have mad respect for that.Plus I’m tired of Drake singing on every track… Not to knock him for having a diverse skill set, but I need more rhyme for my dime…. *jus sayin*

      1. I completely agree! Well said.
J.Cole is an altogether better, more rounded rapper.

Better than Drake, who I don’t even class as hip hop, J.Cole is more talented, by a long shot.

      2. Too many J Cole cosigners. The guy uses the same flow on every track, and doesnt mix up his lines. He is constantly talking about college loans/hoes/blowing up. Listen to Drake’s comeback season, and go through Drake’s catalogue, dude is far more real than Cole. You feel what Drake is saying on TML, ionno whether I “feel” Cole.

    8. I give it up for both of them. They are both doing it big but in different sectors of hip hop. Everyone will have their own opinions as to whose better (ex. Jay Z NAs, 2pac bigie, 50 eminem and so on). Drake is more diverse in his skill set. Cole has better verses though. Those who say cole isnt mainstream like drake are wrong because cole is know throughout the entire web(main source of music other than radio). Drake just happens to have albums already on sale. At this moment I would say Drake is the better artist overall. However though it shouldnt really matter because people have different tastes and prefference towards what music they like. Drake is more R &B rap hip hop and cole is just rap/hiphop. Drake will definetaly be at the top for a long time to come. and Coles gonna have to keep it up because if he slumps it right now he will loose a huge fan basis

      1. Unbiased source
your an idiot. be quiet becauase you haven#t said anything worth mentioning.

        J Cole>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    9. Sike….da fuck outta here….stay his ass in Indiana cornfields and cipha all he want, he never gone b big…NEVER!!!!!

    10. I SEE NIGZ TRYIN TO MAKE JCOLE SUMTHIN HE HAS NOT SHOWN HIMSELF TO BE..WHY IS IT THAT THESE NEW CLASS OF RAPPERS R CONSIDERED CONSCIOUS..JCOLE TALKS ABOUT THOSE SAME BITCHES(LIGHTS PLEASE)..HE TALK ABOUT WANTING MAINSTREAM SUCCESS(BLOW UP)..HE SINGS(PREMEDITATED MURDER)..FUC OUTTA HERE..U NIGZ IS DELUSIONAL..HIM AND DRAKE R IN THE SAME EXACT LANE…BUT THIS NIGGA AINT MADE IT YET SO HE A PEOPLES CHAMP..LET THESE NIGGAZ BE WHO THEY GON BE..STOP WISHIN THEY WAS SOMETHING…YOU I LIKE THEM BEFORE THEY HOT MUHFUCKAS GON HATE HIM AFTER HIS ALBUM DROP ANYWAY..SO GIV THAT DUMASS ARGUMENT UP

      1. u crazy… lights please is a perfect example of a cole track that approached a typical chick from a different angle. He was tryna school her simple ass to some real shit…… Drake’s concepts are NEVER that deep. lol. Drake woulda sang alll over that jawn…….and lyrically jcole will kill drake because he is a story teller with crazy wordplay….. Drake used to show personality, but now he’s boring because he talks about the same ol shit….

    11. Truthfully can’t tell the difference between these 2. Well, one is more R&B and mainstream bullsh**, and the other says “nigga” “bitch” & “hoe” alot. They both talk about the same thing, and I listened to alot of their material to still come up with that conclusion. Am I missing something?

      1. great point. J cole is good but alot of his material lacks substance. He’s either trying to sing, or dropping saying I fuck your bitch, nigga I’m the greatest. The angry college dude who grew up in the suburbs is kinda wack to me.

      2. not understanding ppl saying Cole lacks substance or sounds like Drake. here are some tracks u should listen to for clarification:
        -Can I live
        -Lights Please
        -World is empty
        -Dreams
        -obstacles

all of these tracks are conceptually foriegn to Drake. He has no material to even compare because all his concepts center around being fly. Cole can even paint u an ugly picture and make it beautiful. thats the difference.

      3. C/S Eva Datdiva you killin it

        Truthenola

Drake songs are all the same don’t much of anything that has depth or feeling all those songs you mentioned sound forced you can here it in his monotone voice and corny wordplay.

      4. Losing my balance
        hold it down
        show me something
        problems
        welcome
        song for the ville

all well written songs about REAL LIFE SOCIAL ISSUES!!

      5. J. Cole doesn’t lack substance, he just talks about the same stuff all the time. He’s a good, technical rapper but he says nothing groundbreaking to me. I’m all for rappers to make music to relate to, but I didn’t have the same relationship problems as J. Cole or Drake. It would be nice if he would say something I haven’t already heard, that’s all. The ironic thing too is when I hear people say that J. Cole or Drake are dope because they don’t talk about the “same ol'” money, clothes, hoes like Waka Flocka or Gucci when in fact they do talk about that same sh** in their songs (relationships, feelings, etc.). It’s a justification that they’re different from “average” rappers when they’re not saying anything new. Rappers been singing their own hooks, making love songs, and make R&B-type music for a long time. What makes them different?

    12. Elzhi and Phonte are better than both these whiny rap ass niggaz lyrically nuff said get a clue about real rap people wake up get off this mainstream bullshit

    13. first of all just because your a ”mainstream artist” does not mean you suck (lupe fiasco, common, kanye west, nas, jay-z, etc.) when people ask me what i think of drake i always use the same example; celine dion is prolly technically one of the greatest singers of all time but her music is not for me. just because drake’s music doesn’t appeal to me doesnt mean he’s untalented you feel me? the only thing drake and j. cole have in common are the co signs. i like cole because he’s a golden age child and you can feel it in his music plus he produces his own shit.

    14. the part of the article that really got to me was at one point drake said that he and cole are actually friends thats his dog…BUT later in the piece he says he hasn’t gotten a chance to get to know Cole yet, but that they will probably engage in some freestyle sessions while on tour. —–>smh

    15. tha truth you need to recognize facts:

Elzhi and Phonte are better than both these whiny rap ass niggaz lyrically nuff said get a clue about real rapthis ain’t it people wake up get off this mainstream bullshit

      1. FACTS? sounds like another self-righteous elitist prick preachin’ their perspective as if OPINION equated to “TRUTH.”

rather than arguing your point (like an adult), you just talk down on everyone else’s? good job, child.

i like Elzhi and Phonte, but — sadly — they aren’t on J. Cole’s level. when you’re on his level, you’re able to get both RESPECT from the underground and PRAISE in the mainstream.

and only a CHOSEN FEW have been able to accomplish such a feat.

    16. I like drake, I been listenin to his shit for a long time back wen he wuz where cole is now, but J. Coles on some other shit, LYRICALLY J. Coles in a class of his own, from his flow, he never falls off a beat, ever, I still ain heard one bad verse from him, to his metaphors n word play “Lackin substance” are u seriouse? obviously u ain really listened to his shit or it jus goes over your head, but he spittin real shit jus cuz he sayz nigga n bitch alot don mean he ain deep, Tupac said nigga n bitch a hell of alot but youd be a dumbass to say, “damn all he talked bout wuz money n hoes he wuzn deep” Im tellin u J. Cole ten, fifteen years from now will be n that nas, tupac, biggie catagory, n like i said I like drake I ain got nuthin against him but J. Cole kills anybody right now, I cant wait for his shit to blow up

    17. i wanna hear a nigga rap about some real shit. like from the streets like it used to be. Drake could be a good artist just stop calling yourself a rapper cuz all he does is sing about bitches and money then rap a few reatrted bars that happen to rhyme and the simple minded audienced goes crazy. bullshit. Cole is good not as good as hes hyped up to be though.

      1. I co-sign this comment. It would be nice to hear a rapper from the street that can actually rhyme, not that fake street Waka-Gucci-Juiceman trap sh**. Street rappers were nice with it back then, and I think there is some out there that could be nice with it and hood, but real and not glorify bullsh**.

    18. they both hot
      they not legends yet tho!
if they reach the top, then they’ll meet at the top for supremacy
(side note: audio rating needs a 10 point system; too many are too quick to hand out 5’s like lollipops)
      i love hhdx!!

    19. theres not rivalry j.cole is 10x better lyrically no exaggeration. someone musta been writing for drake hes trash after dat so far gone tapee
