There’s been a lot of chatter surrounding potential new music from Dr. Dre. Is it the long-awaited Detox album or something else entirely? No one — not even Dre — has provided any specific details on what could possibly be coming down the pipeline from the lauded Hip Hop producer.
In January, shortly after Dr. Dre was discharged from Cedar-Sinai Medical Center for a reported brain aneurysm, Aftermath Entertainment affiliate Dem Jointz revealed Dre was already back in the studio hard at work. But it was one of the hashtags in the Instagram caption, “#detox2021,” that caught people’s attention. Dre has been working on the nearly mythical album for over a decade and, at one point, had scrapped it entirely.
But as 2021 drags on, there’s been signs Dre is inching closer to dropping something. On Monday (August 10), Diggin’ In The Crates legend Diamond D shared an Instagram photo of himself with Dr. Dre in the studio, indicating the just heard some previously unheard material from the doc. He also tagged longtime Dre collaborator Xzibit and producer Focus…
“@drdre played about 2hrs of straight unreleased heat rocks for me and @xzibit today,” he wrote in the caption. “#ondeck shouts out to @focus3dots.”
Diamond D’s sentiments nearly echo the ones Grandmaster Flash posted earlier this month. On August 1, the Hip Hop pioneer shared a photo of himself with Dr. Dre to the official Furious 5 Instagram account and said he’d been at the Beats By Dre mogul’s house following a DiscOasis event with music icon Nile Rodgers. Flash also noted Dre played him a project he believes will have a giant impact on the culture.
“GRANDMASTER FLASH & DR. DRE,” he wrote in the caption. “Here in LA doing the Disco Oasis with Nile Rogers tonite, I get a call from one of my heroes he invites me to the CRIB.
“He takes me down to the STUDIO he played me a project that will change the game!! Totally incredible, we top off the day for 2hrs talkin about Music, Family Health and Life thanks for the Invite Dr Dre.”
But fans will just have to wait and see what will materialize. Dre hasn’t dropped a proper studio album since 2015’s Compton, which arrived 16 years after the critically acclaimed 2001. In between time, he’s been busy producing music for everyone from Anderson .Paak and Eminem to JAY-Z and Alicia Keys.
dre & diamond d….stunts chronic & hiphop!
Clickbait.
He doesn’t write his lyrics… I don’t need this
If he`s playing music and people are referencing what they are hearing how can it be “mythical”? LOL
Cap
I’ve been working with Dre since the early 1990s he is one of my mentors but more importantly an elder that helped me go from broke to owning my own companies. Dre is in the studio EVERYDAY he is a Studio Rat. The public doesn’t hear or see 75-80% off what is produced. Dre has had HUNDREDS of artists come into the studio and we work helping others put their projects together but he didn’t make the music only gives help, advice, and direction. He gives artists advice to make their projects better, doesn’t ask for credit, and doesn’t get paid. Dre is our elder and does a lot to help people and never asks for money or recognition. DETOX is not going to happen. Dre has a vision far past that old concept.
Ain’t nobody looking for Dre or his played out music. Just like nobody
checking for your corny say so
Yeah, you’d rather listen to the lil nudy and durk. No wonder your generation is so fucked.
Quite frankly.. Even before he was sick.. I think he kinda scared to drop.. He scared to flop..Yo Dre its cool to rest on your Laurels.. Shit they been giving Lauren Hill a pass for 20 years .. You good Homie
This double lp is his 808s and heartbreak, dedicated to the loss of my love
People will always look for Dr. Dre because he makes great hip hop. Music is garbage these days. Really un listenable. Looking forward to anything Dre drops!!
It’s gonna shake the grounds for us who knows what dre is capable of. Compton didn’t sound like dre. There were a few songs on there that I could tell that dre was a part of. But it wasn’t dre 100 trying to put out that dope classic. It sounded like dre rushing an album for a film.
These type of articles pop up once a year. An old, washed up rapper talks about how he hung out with Dre and he heard the most incredible, astonishing, remarkable, amazing music he’s ever heard in his life… Then nothing ever come out and IF it does, it’s something bland and mediocre like that weed plate Compton album. Let’s face it, Dre already had his run. His production may be on point but no one will ever know if he doesn’t release anything.
