Doja Cat often finds herself at the center of controversy all while maintaining a high standard as a musician, which might be why one of her peers has now compared her to Madonna.

On Wednesday (December 13), Waka Flocka Flame took to social media and wrote: “Am i tripping or Doja Cat is Madonna of this era..”

The comments section was split between those who strongly agreed and disagreed, which is only natural considering how Madonna’s shoes aren’t at all easy to fill. “Her or gaga,” one person wrote, while another added: “She is period kings recognize.”

Others, however, felt differently with comments such as “Tripping. Hard.” and “I don’t know about that one” also appearing in response to Waka’s question

Waka Flocka Flame has never shied away from expressing his respect for those who have elevated artistry as well as those who have positioned him to succeed. Last month, he made it clear that he respects his elders and that he always makes sure to salute those who paved the way for rappers like himself.

“It was like they stole the key to our handcuffs and our voices created a key and unlocked the chains,” he said. “For me, when I see any older rapper, I automatically respect them. No matter if he disrespected me or anything. If it wasn’t for him or her, I wouldn’t be here… So they guaranteed my respect. Off top, that’s what 50 years of Hip Hop is for me.”

The 37-year-old has kept that same energy while passing the baton to the younger generation of artists as well. Back in September, a fan suggested he sue Latto for interpolating his famous “It’s a party” lyric for her latest anthem, “ISSA PARTY.”

However, the Atlanta native didn’t feel slighted by that at all. Instead, he relayed that he respects his fellow ClayCo resident’s vision and the way she used his influence to create a banger of her own.
