Doja Cat has made a startling confession about her award-winning discography, admitting that some of her albums were “cash-grabs.”

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday (May 9), the singer/rapper told her followers that her last two albums, 2021’s Planet Her and 2019’s Hot Pink, were “mediocre pop” records made purely for profit — and fans “fell for it.”

Planet Her and Hot Pink were cash-grabs and yall fell for it,” she wrote. “now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop.”

Noticeably, Doja Cat didn’t include her debut album Amala in the tweet.

Shortly after, she announced that her upcoming album is titled First of All and not Hellmouth, which many fans believed to be the name.

“its not called hEllMoUth either its called First of All,” she said. “and yes I’m announcing the album title right now.”

Doja Cat also took to Instagram Live on Tuesday to play a snippet of new music, which finds her dipping back into her rap bag.

I know I’ve been the root of the cause/ I know I’ve had a temper before/ But still, y’all don’t quit/ I understand you want me to win/ I understand how hard that you’ve been/ I understand the cause and effect/ Now like dog eat dog and cat eat fish/ I understand the jungle we in,” she spits over a soulful boom bap beat.

Last month, Doja Cat explained how she was moving on from pop music to focus on rap.

“no more pop,” she tweeted at the time. “i also agree with everyone who said the majority of my rap verses are mid and corny. I know they are. I wasnt trying to prove anything I just enjoy making music but I’m getting tired of hearing yall say that i can’t so I will.”

“I’m doing all this shit that I don’t fucking wanna do,” she said at the time. “I don’t wanna to take fucking pictures. Like, yes, planning a photoshoot is very fun. Capturing a concept, capturing a visual idea, like something like that, I love fashion. I really do. I love to dress up. I love all that shit.”

She continued: “Do I wanna do that shit because I have to? No! No I don’t! But I feel pressured to do shit like that. I don’t fucking wanna that. I wanna be home. I wanna make music. I wanna play fucking video games.”
