DMX has opened up about his personal struggles, speaking to Arizona’s ABC 15 about his bipolar disorder, fight to beat drug addiction and dog fighting. During the interview, he revealed that he suffers from bipolar disorder, which causes severe mood swings between mania and depression.
“I’m not the person the media portrays me to be,” he said. “X is the bad guy. That’s not who I am. I’m not the person the media portrays me to be.”
He explained that he used to be able to distinguish X from Earl Simmons, but now has difficult separating the two.
“I used to be really clear on who was what and what characteristics each personality had. But I don’t know at this point. I’m not even sure there is a difference,” he continued. “I’m Earl when I’m with my children. I miss my children, I miss my children, I miss my children.”
X, whose struggles with substance abuse have been long documented, says that he’s trying to get clean and is taking it one day at a time. “Every day. I start my day off with a prayer, as God to guide my steps,” he continued. “Cover me and keep me safe. Every album there’s a gospel song and a prayer. Every album, from the beginning.”
DMX is currently working on an upcoming album Redemption of the Beast that he hopes to release by the end of the year. As for getting his career back on track, he’s not worried about obstacles.
“There will never be another me, never,” he said. “To this date I have records that have yet to be broken.”

This shouldn’t be a surprise. If you couldn’t tell X had mental issues back when his first album came out then your a damn fool! All you can do for this guy is pray he stays on the right path, as far as the music his personal issues do not affect what he’s given to hip hop. That’s real rap!!

Bi polar isn’t a disease. You can’t contract it. X is a smart guy, but he’s just not very realistic. If he really wanted helped, he’d get it. If he really wanted to see his kids, he would. Nobody will help this guy because they’re afraid of him.

D spoke about being diagnosed with bipolar at a young age in his book E.A.R.L. at least he got the courage unlike most fuckin fanus (play on words) people none of you jump of Slim’s back after Space Bound which clearly influenced by mental issues.

Not saying dude is not bipolar or whatever else he is claiming, but X’s problems do not stem from that. He’s a drug addict period! According to him, he used to smoke his weed, then one day, unbeknownst to him, his boy “hooked” him up and laced the weed with heroin and that was it. So he is not smoking all that crack b/c he is bipolar and he is not doing dumb eesh like screwing up his probabation and getting arrested because he’s got mental issues. He needs help for the drugs, which I do understand is difficult, but he can get the help if he wants it.
Catherine Zeta jones just announced she’s been battling her mental demons and yet I don’t see her in and out of jail. So let’s not blame X’s problem on the bipolar.

Just a correction for the author – bipolar disorder is not a personality disorder, it’s a mood disorder, treatable with medication. Personality disorders are not treatable with meds.
