DMC Says He Would “Never Diss Lil Wayne Or Jay Z”

DMC has addressed reports that he recently dissed Lil Wayne and Jay Z

The Run-DMC rapper issued a statement explaining his thoughts on the matter. The statement can be found below, as it was published on Monday (August 5) by AllHipHop

I could never DISS Lil Wayne or Jay Z!

They are very good and successful at what they do! I would and could never disrespect either of these two men!

    Their success is my success!

I love and respect Lil Wayne! He treats me well and is very very nice to me and my family!

And Jay Z inspired me and assured me  that great Hip Hop will exist forever in all generations and eras when he dropped Hard Knock Life, which one of my favorite Hip Hop songs ever! Hard Knock is incredible to me!

After reading the negative comments coming at all of us, I had to personally apologize to my two fellow artist!

I do not like negative shit! I cannot tolerate anything that will divide us and our Hip Hop Culture!

The power is in Wayne, D and Jay standing side by side representing this sacred culture together! No matter how “different” we may be!

Now with that being said, the point I was trying to make is that Jay and Wayne(and even me when I was on radio all day) aren’t the only ones that are so called “hot” because there is a lot of talent that may be just as “hot” and even better, but they don’t get heard on the radio.

All I’m saying is a DJ should be able to discover an incredible ass rapper in any city state or country today, and be able to come on the air tomorrow, and play that song…but he or she can’t…because of programming!

On Sunday (August 4), it was reported that DMC criticized Jay Z and Lil Wayne. “Lil Wayne [and] Jay Z ain’t hot,” DMC said. “It’s just they’re programmed so many times people are brainwashed.

“It was inevitable that Hip Hop became commercialized but along the way our power got taken away,” he added. “Now you got the same 12 records on radio being played over and over again.”

    1. Damn dude should change his name to BMX or become a cornerback because I’ve never seen someone backpedal so fast in my life….

      1. If he meant what he said he wouldn’t have to release a statement kissing their ass to clarify it… Say what you say and leave it at that, if people can’t understand it thats their problem. I knew what he meant, the money/corporate power behind these guys defines their “hotness”, rather than their actual talent. But if you believe in your statement you shouldn’t have to release another with a bunch of kind words and explanation marks… Thats defines a backpedal

      2. I respect your name calling abilities on the comments section of an internet site to the utmost though, fine work sir…

    2. THAT NIGGA SHOULD OF SAID THAT… THEY AINT HOT, AINT BEEN FOR YEARS. JAY AINT MADE A GOOD ALBUM SINCE 2001, WAYNE IS JUST GARBAGE

    3. LOL!!! Yeah Darryl, the damages is done. You can’t take it back. I agree, the new gernerations are brainwashed. You can point the finger at the radio djs but you also have to place the blame on these cookie cutter artist coming out. OR that are already out, who changes their sound or BITE!!! The next man, in attempt to get a piece of the pie

    4. Why is it so hard for rappers that were good or are good to just tell it like it is? Well its the fear that no one who is considered “HOT” nowadays will want to put them on and of course these dudes want that cheese.

DMC back peddled because Jay-Z is the highest paid hip hop artist out right now. He has crazy power and can kill careers. Jay also put Run DMC out last summer at a Show in Philly.

In any case, more old school cats should come out against the BS that is put out today. Rap artists today are a true minstrel show. They do whateve the label tells them to do and they do it for a buck like a seal jumping out the water for a dangling smelt at Seaworld.

Its sad to see so many brother rapping so much nonsense. At least when rap was good…people stepped up and elevated the game poetically. Word Play meant something..thats why its called RAP music.

Today its grunts, groans, heyyyyy..and dirty south speak that sound so illiterate. (And looks that way too in most videos)

It is what it is..commercial rap is nuthing but garbage and Wayne and Jay are not helping it at all.

    5. I CAN SEE HIM DISSING LIL WAYNE WITH ALL THAT BUBBLE GUM RAP ..BUT HOV A DIFFERENT STORY…ARM LEG LEG ARM HEAD…THIS IS GOD BODY..ALLAH….5% NATION ALWAYS..

      1. arm leg leg arm head……..

was used by lil wayne on the carter 1 back in 04

was used by never from crucial conflict back in 96

don’t act like jayz came up with a fire ass line

    6. So you kids think clarifying a statement taken out proportion is backpedaling? Youguys forget DMC don’t have anything to gain or lose from his statements, the man is set and his career is fullfilled, meaning he made it to the Rock and Roll HOF and was one of the first rappers to do so (not the first so save the correction).

    7. Diss Wayne all day long but never diss Jay-Z. He has done more for the rap game in 5 years than Lil Wayne could do for a lifetime.

      1. Wayne has put a lot of stuff out. Jay put less than he did.

Lil Wayne – 34 Albums & Mixtapes (Combined) and a whole lot of songs he has been featured on. (9 studio albums and 25 Mixtapes)

Jay-Z – 11 Studio albums, 1 Album with Kanye West 0 Mixtapes, and however many songs he has been featured on (I don’t think he’s been featured a lot.)

Who has done more for the rap game? Jay has been out before Wayne and Jay doesn’t have much in the Rap game.

If you have anything else to say, I don’t care. I don’t want to hear it. Wayne has done more the rap game than Jay-Z has

      2. When we talk of rap we talk quality not talking all the time.. Note when you do that you talk out of sense like you just did. Oh sorry you’re stupid ( I get it) fuck with Hov you know he got it.

    8. I’ll always love Run DMC, but own up to it. You dissed them. You said they ain’t hot, people are programed to think they are.

Your follow up statement was valid, but pretty contradictory to your original statement.

    9. I respect your name calling abilities on the comments section of an internet site to the utmost though, fine work sir

    10. ” I cannot tolerate anything that will divide us and our Hip Hop Culture”

DMC can’t tolerate all you haters. 😛 It’s because of haters, the Hip Hop Culture is divided.

He even says Lil Wayne is great, and he is from the Old School Rap. Doesn’t that mean that Wayne is great?

Now, we all need to bring together the Hip Hop Culture and stop trash talking each other based on who we listen to and we need to respect each rappers whether you like them or not. Each rapper is different. It can’t get any simpler than that. So respect each other and the rappers we listen to.

      Good day.

    11. DMC doesn’t have to apologize for his comments about lil Wayne or jay z because they were right on point. These guys are shoved down our throats through radio air waves all the time all day. Vibe wrote an article a really long time ago about the heavy rotation tidal wave that ultimately hit every radio station in America and it said if you played a particular song enough times the general public will eventually like it if not love the song. If you do almost anything enough times you will at some point yearn for that one thing. You go to jail enough you will end up like going to jail. You wake up to a shitty job long enough you will know nothing else as you complain and moan while completing your work. The same is true about positive things too. It’s simple mathematics. Most people who speak out, especially black people who have the plate form to speak out about injustice or things gravely wrong in society are usually financially vulnerable and in most cases will choose to be silent because their bottom line can be affected, so being quit and mostly mute when they know for a fact the general public is being fooled will almost always choose to be silent. Society is daisy chained with many layers which glues everyone together at the joints and whenever one of us speak to honestly or tells too much of the truth, that bank account gets the brakes. Sadly sometimes your life is expendable. Plenty of cases are out there, it’s just as simple as taking a closer look and not so willing to accept for instance if a neighborhood had a very big drug dealer who spent money like no tomorrow and everyone looked the other way at the mother, father, and child who suffers from the addiction of drugs all because the big drug dealer buys frequently from your store and if they were suddenly gone a huge chunk of your revenue went with them.
