DJ Quik is scheduled to release his The Midnight Life album October 14, according to a press release.
The ninth album from the platinum rapper-producer is set to be released through his Mad Science label in conjunction with INgrooves Music Group.
“This album is my ode to having fun in the midnight hour,” the Compton, California rapper says of his new LP. “That’s the best time for making music in my opinion. It’s quiet, especially if you’re in a recording studio. You can hear everything and you know everybody’s asleep. You can sneak and do your best work.”
Suga Free and Dom Kennedy join DJ Quik on The Midnight Life single “Life Jacket.” Other songs on the collection are said to include “Fuck All Night,” “Quik’s Groove 9” and “Bacon’s Groove.” Beyond Suga Free and Dom Kennedy, guests on the project are set to include El Debarge, Bishop Lamont, Mack 10, Tay F 3rd and Tweed Cadillac.
DJ Quik was also recently announced as a headliner at the Sunset Strip Music Festival, which is slated to take place Saturday (September 20) and Sunday (September 21) in Los Angeles.

quik trying to appeal again. But I hope he doesn’t dumb down the lyrics though. I’m buying regardless, quik is worth a listen jack!
hopefully he keeps it funky and lyrical
I thought I heard a while back that Quik was retiring? Glad to hear/see this. I’m hoping his production will reflect that P-funk sound the I loved so much on Safe & Sound and Rhythm-al-ism. Nice to see Suga Free on the album.
i heard the snippets yesterday and it don’t sound “safe & sound” era or anything, it does have that hype and bounce to it..he tried to channel quik from 1989 so from what I heard it sounds just like what he wanted to do. either way im buying
Great News!! Need some new Quik in my life right about now
i like this cover.
i luh this nigga’s music
Dope cover
track 12. Bacon’s Groove. Interesting. I can’t wait. QUIK is my favorite producer of all time.
pretty dope he get’s his own “featured” track. dude helped shape quik’s sound from tha jump
This Nicca Quik got El Debarge on a track! Yes Sir
Cover is fresh. Wonder if the physical will have any bonus shit. Definitely gonna kick out the 13.99
Get hit with some hot ones,…keep on pushing Quik.
Always worth the purchase.Nothing but love.
Jimmy-C
The artwork is fcking awful! C’mon Quik!!!
The album cover is funny LOL Looks generic and unoriginal . DJ Quik fell off . SAFE AND SOUND AND RHYMTHM A LISM ARE HIS BEST ALBUMS
Some of the album snippets sound alright .
Another bullshit album by Quick. He makes some good beats here and there, but sounds like this isn’t worth it’s (cheap) price. It would’ve been an okay free mixtape.
You probably think it’s bullshit because Mustard didn’t do any production. Sad.
lol sad it is my friend….man this album is knockin 1st listen was ok 2nd was wow gonna b spinnin this 4 a while
Balance and Options>Chronic 2001
Balance & Option is ARGUABLY Quiks best album EVER!! but as time goes on slight edge goes to Rhythmalism
the album cover is some real L.A. Compton shit, the sound is some real L.A. Compton shit!! If you ain’t from L.A., but have love for the city and the sound, listen to this, and you’ll feel like you on the L.A. Freeway! This shit authentic, fuck what a nigga say!
This is gonna be throatfuckingly good.
“Throatfuckingly”………….lol,co-sign
Not trying to hate but how old is Quik?
The rules of the rap game are that if you are over 30 yrs old, you shouldn’t really be rapping about hoes, drugs, cars and club life. I mean come on now, like really, all of a sudden these old ass washed up has-beens are suddenly heavy in the streets and living it up like a 20 year old drug dealer.
Its like Charles Barkley saying he is coming back to the NBA — you will get laughed at. We need to stop giving a pass to these old-ass rappers to continue rapping and embarrassing themselves.
Sorry Quik, the retirement home is that way ————> YOU DON’T BELONG IN THE HOUSE OF HIP-HOP ANYMORE.
Rules of the game? You obviously don’t listen to rap and your an old man smh.
I’m 26 and i think this shit go hard
U obviously never met any real OG’s then.
rules of the rap game are the same rules in life…do what the fuck you want to do.
Classic Quik, been I fan since Way 2 Fonky. He got my $$ tuesday. Stream showcase the classic quik we know and love.
very good
i gave his “the book of david ” album a 4.5/5
the blaqkout album with kurupt i would give a 4.5/5 also-
those 2 albums are super solid and showcase the classic quik synth/key (midi) production and blaqkout was super creative with the production. midnight life is not. dosnt feel as inspired or creative. it shows him changing his sound to modernize it which makes it feel too forced and not what people are probably hoping for in a quik album.. I give “midnight life” a 3.5/5. i only like 6 songs on it.
i find the production is too sparse during parts of a handful of songs.
he can do way better.
DJ QUIK !!!! Not his best work… But the track LIFE JACKET!!!= That shit jamming = Classic Quik
Havent heard the whole album yet but i like that getter song. Hoping it is as good as Unda the Influence cause the book of david was terrible considering he had a 6 yr hiatus to work on production. Trauma was ok but i would love to heard a full funk album like Safe and Sound again.
The album sounds fresh and fun.The key to stay relevent in music is to approach it with a clear and playful mind. I doesnt mean acting like a teenager all over again. Shit, im turning 33 next year and i feel so young and fitt its crazy, i dont even drink that much anymore. People forget that rapping is just an instrument like a drum is, take every line serious as cancer. Age is just a number, and hiphop is forever.
This is DJ Quik’ worst album , he fell off . It has maybe 3 or 4 alright songs and the rest is garbage .
MC Eiht’s new album Which Way Iz West is gonna be dope , let’s wait and see .
