DJ Premier discussed his upcoming album with Nas while sitting down with Royce Da 5’9” and Adrian Younge for an interview posted by VladTV.
“Nas has one more album to obligate to Def Jam,” DJ Premier says in the clip. “He said he didn’t really want to do [the joint album] there, he wanted to move on and do it independently, so we could do it how we want it. So I was like, ‘All right, when the time come just holler at me, I’m here.’”
DJ Premier says that his chemistry with Nas is very strong.
“Nas is another one that I have a cool relationship like I have with Royce,” DJ Premier says. “It’s kind of, we may not see each other everyday, or talk to each other all the time but it’s regular. Royce and I have a regular relationship. It’s no big deal, but when it goes down, it goes down. When we get in the lab we both really represent. Same thing with Nas. We pick it where we left out in conversation…If he says, ‘Let’s do it,’ I’m not like, ‘Oh, I’m tired of waiting.’ It’s like he could say I’m ready tomorrow and I’m with it. I’m in no rush. Right now we have PRhyme. Whenever it goes down, it’s going to be natural to do. It’s going to be special because it’s not like anything I’ve done in the history of my career.”
DJ Premier recalls an instance of chemistry with Jay Z.
“Jay Z is the same thing,” DJ Premier says. “I’ll just jump into a conversation that we talked about 20 years [ago] and you think that we just hit a pause button and released a conversation. I remember when he was doing his Reasonable Doubt anniversary documentary at my studio, and we were having an argument about some stuff. Jay waked in and jumps in like he was there the whole half hour. It’s funny because that how natural we picked up from being around each other.”
DJ Premier collaborated with Royce da 5’9” on the December release PRhyme. The joint album received four out of five from HipHopDX.
Royce also addressed the potential Slaughterhouse collaboration with TDE.
“Just Blaze actually did a beat for the Slaughterhouse TDE song,” Royce Da 5’9” says. “It’s just hard to put together. Its something we pursued. Me, Q, Soul, Jay Rock, Kendrick and Marshall actually sat at talked about the song. They came to Detroit one time and talked Em’s studio about to make the song. Just Blaze and JUSTICE league collaborated and made a crazy beat and it just hasn’t come together yet.”

BEEN WAITING FOR THIS!!
Yo that PHryme is so classic.
PRhyme*
So that Album will not drop before 2017 ….
premo cannot produce a whole album of great beats anymore. do not want.
guess u havent listened to prhyme
i guess i have. those beats couldve come from the 90s. and if they did they wouldnt have been anything to write home about then. most overrated album of 14.
No Premo is done. He didnt switch his style up. Its 2015 and not 1994 anymore. Retire you are 50 years old. Hiphop is for young people. You are a legend but stop embarrssing yourself like a LL Cool J or Ice Cube or KRS-ONe
Premo is done? WTF you smoking?
Preemo is not done, but he’s not nearly as good as he once was. He never really updated his formula to sound current with the times. He’s still better than most today. As far as old rappers embarrassing themselves, what about all the young clowns out here. LL, KRS or Cube can still out rap 97% of today.s rappers under 30. Stop putting an age limit on hip hop.
I agree. Nas clearly doesn’t want to work with this dude, his beats are dusty and repetitive now.
you mad Preem hasn’t watered down the golden era 90’s era to catch up with todays junk?
FOH.
I dont care if Krs-One is a better rapper then 50 Cent or Premo is a better producer then DJ Mustard. There comes a time when you gotta quit. Face it Premo 2015 is garbage compared to Premo 1994 when he produced classics. And yes Hiphop has a limited age, a 40 year old rapper who talks about selling drugs, or skillz on the mic or beig a pimp or killa is childish. If rappers want fans to grow with them then they gotta switch up their style.
But rock fans got no problem with 60 year old rockers still performing stuff they wrote when they were 20.
If you love music, you dont stop. It’s an art. Hip Hop is the only musical art form that puts an age limit on its music. Rock and Roll artists can make music till they are 80 and its cool. We need to expand in Hip Hop and stop trying to put everyone in a damn box
some dude still trolls comment sections in 2015 is telling someone else to quit. and yes rock dudes older than rappers are still touring and singing songs about partying and getting high so cut it out & grow up
The album will happen. One Nas is done with Def Jam the Dj Premier and Nas album will be released on Mass Appeal Records. Nas is part owner of the magazine and runs the label. Mark my words.
Nas can’t pick good beats to save his life and Premo’s shit is dry as fuck now, so Nas is gonna pick the worst Premo beats in history for this album. It’s gonna be the biggest epic failure in hip hop. Meanwhile, Hov continues to evolve and keep himself up to date. I’m more looking forward to that Watch the Throne 2 if it really happens. That would be some next level shit.
MCHG was him evolving? Garbage Album as everyone said.
I remembered that conversation was internet talk years ago and trolling on the internet was hot years ago,
You must like trap music smh
The trap I like is my trap ass, which traps penises.
Really hoping Watch the Throne 2 comes out. Thinking about a new HOV album gets me hard.
Give Nas some of my instrumentals, that’ll really throw them off!
I wanted this like fifteen years ago but now Premo is washed up. Honestly I’d be way more hyped if Nas did an album with Alchemist, 9th wonder, Exile, Just Blaze
if they have a joint album, it better be up-to-date. these guys are good, but they have came with sloppy shit lately. both have the potential though.
Most producers today don’t have an inch of uniqueness, they copy whatever’s popular at the time. And those Simplistic trap beats I can make in 10 minutes are boring as fuck and all sound the same, 808 drums with nearly the same drum pattern and piano or synth hitting on 8th notes with a synthetic played out drum roll. Rehash generation with hardly any talent and no message, a bunch of clueless soon to be forgotten wannabes. Preem at his worst is better than most. Too many followers in hip hop today.
If you think Hip hop has an age limit, the most popular artists are all pretty much past their mid 30’s and for the rest, Drake is 29, lil wayne is is gonna be 33, etc. Quit while your ahead or better yet kill yourself.
