DJ Khaled Receives ‘Special’ Password-Protected Gift From Michael Jordan: ‘Only 1 Of 23’

DJ Khaled received the ultimate sneaker gift from Michael Jordan himself – and it’s one of only 23 pairs of kicks in very special packaging.

Taking to Instagram, Khaled showed off a fresh new pair of a revamped take on the first-ever Air Jordans. Originally released in 1985 when MJ was on the Chicago Bulls, which is reflected in the black and red colorway, these newly-released replica kicks are designed fully with “the OG specs, no extras.”

They came delivered in a crate with a lock which required a text to MJ – who took a moment from the golf course to reply.

“Khaled you should know the code already. It’s 1985. Let me get back to golfing,” he wrote. When Khaled thanked him, Mike added, “Only 23 with the special packaging. Keep it safe. Me and you the first ones to get em.”

Inside the crate, the Jordans were packaged in a gold box.

“Special package ALERT U can’t ban greatness,” Khaled captioned the clip. “U can’t stop greatness. MJ thank u for inspiring us and letting us know – u can’t stop what’s destined to win.

“Dem sent it locked up so I had to hit MJ for the passcode – OFCOURSE it’s 1985 – the year of greatness! Thank you for this beautiful gift – only 1 of 23. Thank you Michael Jordan thank you Reggie Saunders. It’s an honor to be a part of the family.”

Back in 2023, DJ Khaled made the claim that his We The Best x Air Jordan 5 collaboration is the biggest release in Air Jordan collab history.

“The We The Best 5s, the Jordan 5s, was the biggest release number-wise in Jordan-collaboration history,” he said in an episode of Sneaker Shopping with Complex‘s Joe La Puma. “Do your research and get to it ASAP. We’re talking numbers. Because when I put these out and the Coconuts, I wanted to make sure we did a worldwide thing.”

He continued: “And we did it big. Any Jordan release is gonna be the biggest, [but] I was just excited to make history for my first sneaker release.”

Backing up his claims, Complex found a clip where Jordan’s VP of Entertainment Marketing, Reggie Saunders, confirmed what Khaled said.

“This is the largest launch of any collaborator we’ve ever worked with,” he says in the clip.

This particular We The Best x Air Jordan collaboration arrived on Cyber Monday in 2022, retailing for $225. The kicks were part of a larger “We The Best” collection.
