DJ Khaled Breaks Down “We the Best Forever” Track-By-Track

Billboard recently caught up with DJ Khaled to break down each individual on his latest album We the Best Forever. During the nine minute interview, the Cash Money star explained how his latest offering shows his growth as an artist, finding him exploring different musical territories while still being able to craft major hit records.

“This album is a special album. It’s my fifth album, I think it’s my biggest album, growth-wise, ‘cus all of my albums to me are classics,” he said. “This one, you can see the growth of me…as an artist and growing with music and touching different stuff that I haven’t touched before.”

Khaled discussed his album’s lead single “I’m On One,” which features Drake, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. Khaled explained that the track, which has since peaked at position 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, marks his first collaboration with Drake, which has made the mega-hit is extra special for him.

“This record has a special story ‘cus I’ve been trying to get Drake to do a verse on my album for…a whole full year,” he noted. “[It’s all] in a good, positive way, nothing negative; it’s just his schedule and his creative process to get things done. Actually, Drake was heavily involved [in the song]…as well as [Rick] Ross and Lil Wayne, so it’s just a special record.”

Khaled also discussed the Mary J. Blige, Jadakiss and Fabolous collaboration “It Ain’t Over til’ It’s Over.” Khaled revealed that the track, which is slated to be the album’s next single, was his first time working with the Queen of Hip Hop. He also said that working with her on the track gave him the opportunity to collaborate with her again on a track for her next album.

“If you love Hip Hop and if you love R&B, it’s an undeniable hit record,” he said. “I’m actually about to world premiere the video, and it’s my first time working with Mary J. Blige, and that’s the Queen…working with Mary’s been amazing. On my album, it’s been an amazing process working with her, as well as her [on her album]. Me and the Runners did a track for her on her album, that’s crazy too. It’s opened doors and our relationship is real good.”

    1. He says that he’s “grown as an artist”! WHAT!? He is NOT an artist! This guy is the greatest mystery of all time. I understand, he’s a DJ, DJ’s compile bodies of music now and again… But, fuck, this dude talks as if he actually has some real valuable input into the music that he “makes”.

    2. khaled is like the fat kid in school nobody liked until they found out his parent was rich and he had all the latest video games.

    3. “Growth as an artist”? This dick rider’s only growth is in his stomach, ego, (unfortunately for true Hip Hop Heads, because of dumbasses out there) his wallet. Fuck Khaled forever.

P.S. That “We The Best” slogan is, has always been, & always will be the dumbest shit in the world.

P.S. 2 “I’m So Hood,” “Welcome To My Hood” and some other bullshit songs with the word “Hood” in it are all the same fucking song! I hope this dude gets shot in the gut.

    4. dude should break down what he actually does and why he deserves to have his name on all these songs he doesnt produce or rhyme on

    5. He really said the exact same thing for every song…

and he kept saying he was on there, oh boyyy

    6. His first collaboration with Drake? He had Drake on his last album! The song “Fed Up”
This dumb fuck is so fake that he doesnt even know who he’s collaborated with before.

      1. khaled is a fucking retard, nobody’s buying his bullshit anymore, his beats sound the same and he only gets the same people on each cd. He said he would have another kanye callabo on the cd, yeah that didn’t happen either.

    7. this album sounds alright
but he needs to get some better features on his next album
      DJ khaled isn’t that bad

    8. bought it today. wasnt bad. theres songs that are intolerable and im sure are some form of crime against humanity. but theres more good songs then there is bad. just forget the birdman and Waka Flocka shit and its pretty good

    9. I like how Khaled does his thang with all these artist!! But I wuld like to see wut he realy deos in tha studio!! He needs to work wit different artist He needs to take a trip to tha westcoast!!!

Whoever wrote this has not heard Fed Up lol

    11. Purchased it a week ago and got it to day!
the lx luger songs sucks like hell. lol, cant believe he still gets to produce songs?!?!?… the other songs are good tho… exept “can’t stop” and “It ain’t over till …”
MY MESSAGE IS… GET RID OF LEX “USLESS” LUGER

    12. IRONY ON

Next album will be “We Global Forever”, then “Victory Forever”. At this time, he’ll so grown as a musician that he could produce two tracks entirely on his own to his album, which never happened before in the history. The first titled “Grindin’ Hard In The Hood” while the second is “Winning Forever”, both track featured the same 9 artist. Soon after that, it turns out that Khaled already left the planet Earth years ago, because he is outgrown the world as we know through his music. The above-mentioned two track was considered as his farewell present to the humanity (in those times, also known as the Eight and Ninth Wonder of the World). Scandal is that his past albums was results of a semi-automated process done by a dozen monkey locked in the studio, while featured artist and fans didn’t noticed any difference.

      IRONY OFF

BTW, Khaled had some bangers, but he is just a businessman, noting more. BET DJ of the Year award in 2008? C’mon …
