On Saturday, October 24 the life of celebrated Hip Hop producer/DJ/rapper JamesJ DillaYancey [click to read] will be celebrated as part of “Dilla Day In The A.”

    “‘Dilla Day In The A’ is a celebration that is designed to showcase the cultural side of Hip Hop and to draw attention to the J. Dilla Project
    and the work being done to support Lupus research,” J Dilla’s uncle, Uncle Herm, told HipHopDX“It’s really an effort to show the compassionate and caring side of the culture and that a change can and will be made in medicine as well as technology – through the efforts of the collective.”

    Taking place in Atlanta “Dilla Day In The A” will kick off with participants taking part in Atlanta’s Lupus Walk. The walk will then be followed by a BBQ, Dilla’s Dream Camp (a set of workshops for children under 16), and an artist showcase which will feature performances from Illa J [click to read], Boog Brown, Lyric Jones, and more.

    Dilla‘s dream was to always empower youth with the skills he mastered in terms of creating music, and he was always committed to helping independent artists, which is where Dilla’s Dream Camp came from,”
    said Uncle Herm. “We are going to train and educate youth that attend the event in the elements of the art form so they can learn MPC skills and other things required to excel in making music.”

    All of the events, with the exception of the Lupus Walk, will take place at The Bench in Atlanta.

    In 2006, J Dilla’s [click to read] sudden passing rattled Hip Hop communities across the world. A standout musically, J Dilla and his music can be heard on albums from Raekwon to Q-Tip and everything in between.
