Denzel Curry has called out the Grammy Awards for its nominations in the 2023 rap categories.
The Florida rapper took to Twitter on Tuesday (November 15) to share his unfiltered reaction to the nominations immediately after they were announced. Denzel felt his own album, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, among many others, deserved to be nominated for Best Rap Album, but did salute Kendrick Lamar and Pusha T for their inclusions.
“Glo Rilla Deserves it,” he began. “But For The Rap Album Category I can literally Name you 10 other albums that were actually good congrats to kdot and push but all that other shit come on bruh… This shit bout money at the end of the day so if that’s what it comes down to I’m going get my bread up. In the words of the Late Great Kimbo Slice Man lemme get ma bread.”
He continued: “My Album literally tied with one of the albums that was nominated for a Grammy and I still got robbed. All my homies that came out with Top Notch solid albums this Year Got Robbed. They don’t care about the culture. They only care about building the majors.”
Denzel Curry went on to name albums from Joey Bada$$, Freddie Gibbs, Earl Sweatshirt, J.I.D, Smino, redveil and others, arguing that the quality of their respective work deserved to be recognized.
“2000, TFS, LEARN TO SWIM, MELT MY EYEZ, LUV LETTER, SICK,” he wrote. “There’s more too. PUPPY. $OUL SOLD SEPARATELY.
“N-ggas worked they ass off and y’all give an award to half ass shit. Smino should be nominated. JID should be nominated. Joey Bada$$ should be nominated. Redveil should be nominated. Freddie Gibbs should be nominated. Kenny Mason should be nominated. But I guess n-ggas ain’t mainstream enough right?”
He added: “Saba should be nominated. Kenny beats should be nominated. Earl Sweatshirt should be nominated. Those are my thoughts. And Key Glock Need to be nominated too. The Scammy Nominations.”
The 65th Annual Grammy Awards are set to take place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California on February 5, 2023.
The Best Rap Album category saw nominations for DJ Khaled’s God Did, Future’s I Never Liked You, Jack Harlow’s Come Home the Kids Miss You, Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers and Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry.
As for Best Rap Song, there were nominations for Jack Harlow’s “Churchill Downs” featuring Drake, DJ Khaled’s “God Did” featuring JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, John Legend and Fridayy, Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5,” Gunna and Future’s “Pushin P” featuring Young Thug, and Future’s “Wait for U” featuring Drake and Tems.
Meanwhile, the award for Best Rap Performance will be decided between DJ Khaled’s “God Did,” Doja Cat’s “Vegas,” Gunna and Future’s “Pushin P,” GloRilla and Hitkidd’s “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” and Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Part 5.”
And in the Best Melodic Rap Performance category, there were nods for DJ Khaled’s “Beautiful” featuring Future and SZA, Future’s “Wait for U,” Jack Harlow’s “First Class,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Die Hard” featuring Blxst and Amanda Reifer, and Latto’s “Big Energy (Live).”

ok so his argument would be more sincere to me if he didn’t throw his own album in his statement, but it feels like he’s just bitchin’ about not being nominated himself and just threw some other good albums in the mix to not make it look like this was about HIS OWN album. i listened to MMESYF and it was just ok, nothing special. i’d give it a 3/5, maybe 3.5/5 tops, and that might be stretchin it. there were some worthy skips on that joint, but some good tracks too, i can’t front. most of the albums he named were better than his own though. he just comes across as salty and thirsty, and that’s a bad combo.

Pretty sure those who do it “for the culture” don’t care about an award show or recognition. They do it because they have a passion. Never heard Masta Ace complain that he didn’t go mainstream. Instead, tbe guy was grateful, humble, and glad to have such an impact on hiphop music. These dudes are just chasing money and awards… thats not doing it for the culture. That’s doing it for stardom, for popularity, abs money. Thats doing it for a career.
