Del The Funky Homosapien and Amp Live, two staples of the Bay Area Hip Hop scene, have joined forces for a collaborative album titled Gate 13. The Hieroglyphics MC and former Zion I producer’s new project features 16 tracks with guest appearances by Eligh and Goapele, among others.
“The title is alluding to opening up a way to some bad shit,” Del told HipHopDX. “Amp and I both be talking about tech shit, musical trends, how shit evolve, you know, nerding out on music. We’ve known each other for years, and got common interests as far as composing music and dissecting it.”

i had a stressful day today, and can’t wait to zone out to this right now!!!!
Fireeeee
“Former Zion I” did they break up? They just did an album called Labyrinth last year. (looks it up) oh, Zumbi just released it himself and called it Zion I. Well that sucks, but I guess not many people were paying attention to their releases since Atomic Clock or maybe the second Grouch collab. I loved their music but even I never checked for them after the Vapors EP in 2013.
As for this album, it is the best thing Del has done in a really long time, perhaps since 11th Hour, maybe even longer than that. I was not expecting much from this, I thought it would be two underground artists that the underground stopped caring about years ago (harsh truth), but the beats are on point and Del doesn’t phone his verses in like he has on all his self released albums in the past 10 years, which were all very throwaway. Actually that doesn’t include the two projects with Parallel Thought because those are both dope, I almost forgot about them. Still, check it out if you like Del’s old stuff.
Amp live did not do any production on Labrynth. They did split ways and Zumbi still uses the Zion I brand.
Mind Over Matter was fuckn dope…one of the best undaground albums ever.
