Def Jam Preps Vendetta Prequel

Def Jam artists like Ludacris, Method Man and a host of others could soon be at the palms of your hands. How, you ask? EA Sports and Def Jam have combined forces to bring these artists along in a new videogame for Sony’s PSP. The game will be Def Jam Fight for NY: The Takeover, a follow up to the previous installment of the series of videogames: Def Jam Vendetta.

The game will include hip hop and pop figures that are not part of Def Jam like Carmen Elektra, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Lil’ Kim and others.

Players will go on an adventure to find out how the game’s D-Mob became so powerful in NYC. Aside from all of the one-on-one matches, the fighters will be geared up by several name brands. Among those brand-names are Sean John, Phat Farm, Ecko Unlimited, State Property, Brand Jordan, Rocawear, and Reebok.

According to Electronic Arts, the game will contain more than 30 songs from Def Jam artists’ 2003-2004 album releases. Jeff Karp, (EA Marketing VP) explained that the corrolation between artists and the game go further.

“We saw a definite spike in game sales in the post-release periods for each Def Jam artist album,” he told Billboard.com.

Previous titles of the series have sold more than 900,000 and 1 million compies each. The expectations are high for this game to sell as much, if not more.

Def Jam Enterprises marketing VP Lauren Wirtzer was optimistic when she spoke about the game. “Again, EA has developed an unparalleled title and we are confident that it will go far beyond everyone’s expectations,” she said.
