One of the more anticipated albums of the 1990s was Street Scholars by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania producer/emcee Sam Sneed. As a Death Row Records artist, Sneed released 1994 hit single “U Betta Recognize” featuring Dr. Dre from the Murder Was The Case soundtrack. However, after co-production and writing credits on label hits between 1994 and 1996, Sneed’s album has remained shelved.
Death Row Records, now owned by Toronto, Canada’s WIDE Awake Entertainment, announced that is going to change. In the last two years, the new regime at the label founded by Dr. Dre, Marion “Suge” Knight and attorney David Kenner in 1991 has released shelved material from Snoop Dogg, Danny Boy and Kurupt. Sneed’s Street Scholars, according to E1 Enterainment, Death Row’s present distributor, will be released on January 25, 2011.
Prior to working with Dr. Dre in 1994, Sneed was known as a member of PMD’s Hit Squad, producing for Long Island, New York emcee K-Solo (who would also later sign with Death Row). In addition to “U Better Recognize,” Sneed worked alongside Dr. Dre on hits such as “Natural Born Killaz” and “California Love.” After Dr. Dre left the label he co-founded in 1996, Sneed soon followed after a fight with Suge Knight and Tupac Shakur that has been profiled in several books, most notably Ronin Ro’s Have Gun Will Travel.
In the years since Death Row, after surviving a reported brain tumor, Sam Sneed has produced for Busta Rhymes, Capone-N-Noreaga, Beanie Sigel and former Posion Clan emcee JT Money.
Street Scholars is believed to feature Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Dayton, Ohio emcee J-Flexx. (November 20)

20 years later?
Wiz Khalifa and Sam Sneed “U Better Recognize Part II”. Somebody tell Wiz to get down with Sneed ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!! no seriously…
Co-Sign
BUT this generation of MCs rarely show love to those who came before them…(Kanye revamped Common’s career and did hits with Twista) new artists would rather beef with older artists OR steal their style without giving credit (then the older artists start beefing with the new jacks)
but Sneed & Khalifa would be HARD
wiz khalifaz wack!!! why tha fuck would an O.G. fuck with a bum ass nigga? you stupid for thinkin that you dumb fukin nimrod!!!
Wiz is whack as fuck. Seen him live once (didn’t pay for it, it was a festival). And his “kush and oj” album or whatver you wanna call that shit pile was stupid as fuck too. Talk about something other than puffin L’s son.
Once again, its the man with the master plan, they call him Sam (& i think you better recognize!)
Sam Sneed was the premiere lyricist on Death Row before they ran him up out of there (Kurupt started to slip a bit)…
Sam Sneed, D.O.C., and Snoop was ghost writing bangers for Dre!
He was to connected to so many East Coast MCs during the (media created money making) East/West beef that the death Row flunkies got hurt feelings…his delivery was staight East spitfire…im getting the album
Smokin!Sam is one of the nicest producers from that classic Death Row/G Funk era!
co sign 🙂
SCOTT STORCH B4 SCOTT STORCH,
finally real hiphop instead of gayass kanye
This is not the 90s anymore.
There is no such thing as “Real Hip Hop.”
That being said. I’ll get that joint.
oh yeah phuck S. knight…..Sam I wish I had the power to release it now. Good luck!
I’m glad it’s going to see the light of day. It was about time!
Say what you want, but that chick running Death Row is, at the very least, putting out the product; like not Shug’s punk-ass!
I got to stop by the office again here in Toronto and thank them for releasing these unreleased LPs…I ofund the office located over in Liberty Village a small little office but I am sure there is no way thats the only office cause we talking a lot of material unless they only have the music and that is all :S Shit I want to hear the makaveli albums again that were released unmastered back in the days on Napster…That material I will buy without a problem…#Fact
Let us hope this isn’t a dissapointment with the mixing and mastering.. As deathrow haven’t even released a cdq (cd quality album) because they have failed to master tracks properly (snoop dogg lost sessions).
What ya’ll have to remember is that Lara Lavi is not in charge anymore, she got fired because she was caught bootlegging the Tupac tracks.. John Payne is in charge now. If anyone wants any more Tupac or Deathrow news head up to our forum http://www.makaveli-board.net the home of Tupac.
simply put? COPPED
How funny is that. We over at Patchwerk Recording Studios in Atlanta have been mixing and mastering Sam Sneed project for the last few weeks and if you know us then BANG! Its already sonically superior!
