dead prez have revealed that they’ll be teaming up with Black Thought on a forthcoming collab set to appear on their first new album in 11 years.
On Wednesday (June 1), the New York-formed rap duo — comprising M-1 and stic.man — took to Instagram to announce the exciting news regarding their forthcoming album and The Roots frontman appearing on the project.

All three rap contemporaries posed for a picture with each other. “Ya heard? Spread the word! New @deadprez x @blackthought on the way!,” dead prez captioned the photo.

The last project from dead prez was 2012’s Information Age which was released digitally first, then physically in 2013.
Both men have been outspoken about preserving the true art form of Hip Hop for many years. After Pop Smoke’s death in 2020, stic.man took to IG and spoke about the negativity that has permeated Hip Hop, which has affected the music genre on a broader scale.

“As a culture in Hip Hop, broadly speaking, we seem addicted to glorifying supporting perpetuating and celebrating negativity,” he began. “We support and celebrate misogyny, self hate, fratricide, homicide and genocide, and we do it with pure arrogance and ego, in almost everywhere you turn in mainstream and social media.
“Rappers have become the joke of the culture, spitting out nonsense in flashy and catchy ways for the chance of fame and financial gain. Every major radio channel amplifies it.”
He continued: “Men and Women accept and participate in the negative atmosphere. All in the name of money, notoriety and glorifying the cliches of the streets. We have watched the same cycle breed death and cause harm in numerous ways over and over and over and over again.
“Your favorite rappers will speak out when a fellow rapper life is cut short due to the same nonsense mentalities that most of their own music perpetuates. It’s not that we don’t know better by now. It’s a choice.”

Meanwhile, dead prez spoke to HipHopDX back in 2019 about an array of topics, including living holistically and being better men for their families. M-1, who has five daughters, said at the time that supporting women is essential to Hip Hop becoming greater as a whole.
“I think more so than ever, it’s time for men to support women’s leadership,” he said. “To be a part of a truly transformative process is completely inspirational and revolutionary. Maybe one day that will make it to music, but I more think it’s about the action. To actually be present for women is the most important thing for me to do.”
