De La Soul have announced they’ll be honoring the life and legacy of the late Trugoy The Dove with a special tribute concert in New York City this week.
Dubbed “The DA.I.S.Y. Experience,” the performance will take place on Thursday (March 2″ — a day before the group’s full catalog becomes available on streaming — at the iconic Webster Hall in Manhattan.

According to a press release, the venue will be “transformed with artwork from the group’s classic album, 3 Feet High and Rising,” while legendary DJs Stretch Armstrong, Clark Kent, Rich Medina and Tony Touch will curate a DJ set commemorating De La’s legacy.
Just 333 tickets — a nod to the group’s “The Magic Number” — are up for grabs and are available to reserve from Wednesday (March 1) via the concert’s official website.

Those who can’t make it can livestream the concert on Amazon Music’s Twitch channel from 8 p.m. ET, where they’ll also be treated to a series of interviews with friends of De La Soul and special guests.
“We are coming together to celebrate the life & legacy of Dave and the release of our catalog with a very special DA.I.S.Y. Experience in New York City this Thursday, March 2nd,” De La wrote on Instagram.

Dave “Trugoy” Jolicoeur died at the age of 54 on February 12. A cause of death is still unknown, but his passing was mourned by many of his Hip Hop peers including Pharrell, Common, Busta Rhymes, Questlove, Prince Paul, Queen Latifah, LL COOL J, Fat Joe, Chuck D, Black Thought, Redman, Bun B and more.
Posdnous broke his silence over Trugoy’s shocking death last week on Instagram. In a heartfelt tribute, Pos hailed Trugoy as the glue of De La Soul.
“Dear Dave, You were the heart of our group. You brought so much creativity, energy, and passion to our music, and your influence will be felt for years to come,” Posdnous wrote in part. “Your passing is a great loss not only to us, but also to the entire hip-hop community. You were a true artist who used music to inspire and uplift others, and you will be deeply missed by all who knew you.”
“Before Trugoy The Dove, I met J.D. Dove aside being called Dave in 1985,” Maseo penned in his own touching tribute shared on Instagram. “I remember your mom calling you Dove, so you’ve always had wings, so go on and fly into the light, Merce and I will make sure your legacy is well preserved.

De La Soul became a household name thanks to their groundbreaking 1989 debut 3 Feet High and Rising, which many consider to be one of the greatest Hip Hop albums of all time. Songs like “Me Myself and I,” “The Magic Number” and “Plug Tunin’” helped propel the album to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart, as well as platinum status.
The accolades didn’t stop there as 3 Feet High and Rising was also inducted into the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, a list of sound recordings deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
