Daz Dillinger has got fans of Tha Dogg Pound excited with the announcement of a long-awaited sequel to the duo’s 1995 debut album, Dogg Food.

On Sunday (April 23), the Los Angeles rapper took to Instagram to reveal that Dogg Food 2 is on the way via Dogg Pound Records and will be entirely produced by him.

Dogg Food debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 on the chart dated November 18, 1995 with 278,000 copies sold in its first week. The effort was led by the singles “Let’s Play House” with Michel’le and Nate Dogg and “New York, New York” with Snoop Dogg and is considered to be the last “officially” produced under the G-funk era of Hip Hop – with Death Row Records pivoting to a new sound shortly after.

Comprised of Daz Dillinger and Kurupt, Tha Dogg Pound was formed in the early ’90s and went on to drop numerous albums, beginning with Dogg Food. The pair was signed to Death Row Records in their early years, but eventually split with the label.

Back in 2017, there were reports that Snoop and Daz were shopping a TV show based on Tha Dogg Pound to television networks nationwide that took inspiration from the group’s documentary, DPG Eulogy.

In regards to the series, Dillinger explained that he and Snoop can provide an “honest and unique” perspective on Tha Dogg Pound and Death Row Records.

“Snoop and I are always being asked to assist others with their Death Row projects because we were there from the beginning, until the demise,” Dillinger told Deadline at the time. “We saw Dre leave, ‘Pac murdered, and we were forced to run the company when Suge Knight went back to prison. Our perspective is honest and unique. There are countless stories that the world has never heard about those early days.” So far, nothing has come of the series.

    1. Dogg Pound, Mobb Deep, EPMD, Beatnuts, RTJ, Pete Rock and C.L Smooth. I would include CNN but Nore nor Capone produced. Gangstarr was strictly Guru on the mic…same as 7 L and Esoteric with the former. But love to all of them. Duos can be lethal.

      1. I hate when artists start trying to make sequels to classic albums, it seems like a cheap cash in to trick fans into believing they are going to be able to recapture the magic from the predecessor. I can’t think of too many sequels that was able to be just as impactful as the original. Hope they can do it though as Dogg Food is a classic and one the greatest Death Row projects.

    2. I’m glad that they’re thinking about putting out more music. I love the Dogg Pound. It would be nice to have some bumpin’ music; u know music you can ride to with a bomb beat to it. U know Daz and Kurupt is all about that. I’m all for it😍
