David Banner Speaks On Being Racially Profiled

In the wake of the death of Trayvon Martin, David Banner recently stopped by BET’s “106 & Park” to discuss how racial profiling is alive and well in America and why it needs to stop. During a fiery diatribe, the Mississippi rapper said that the police system needs to change in order to ensure order and prevent future corruption.

“There’s a couple of things. What I want everyone in America to realize is that no matter what we teach our kids about being safe, if it’s a flawed system, then there’s nothing our children can do. We have to change the system. The truth is, about racial profiling, if there are laws intact that make people who feel they’re impowered, that if they do the wrong thing and there’s repercussions, then they won’t do it,” he said. “The problem is, it’s not about the hoodies. It’s not about the t-shirts. It’s not about any of that. Basically, America is telling us, if we don’t make them feel comfortable, then they will murder us. It will go that far. So the thing I will ask everybody in America is, we have to find out what the end result is. Is it legislation? Do we get people to police the people who are supposed to be policing us?”

Banner drew from his own personal experience with racial profiling. He says that every time he gets pulled over in his expensive car, he always feels like he did something wrong, even though he isn’t at fault. Banner says that Americans need to raise their voices to enact change in the world.

“How do you feel when you get pulled over? I have a Bentley and I get pulled over and I still feel like something’s wrong. Why is that? Also everybody, be focused. They try to talk about black-on-black crime, they try to talk about our music. They try to say, well what if Zimmerman got attacked? At the end of the day, there is a black child dead. The thing is, I just want us to figure out what can we do to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We just had Sean Bell. We just had Oscar Grant. How many times does this have to happen before we realize, we can march, we can sing, we can make songs? No. We have to do something that means something so this will never happen to another child again.”

    1. It’s totally normal to call the police before you are going to shoot someone when commiting a hate crime.

      1. Oh please, stfu. Another person who is probably not black, trying their damndest to stretch the obvious truth in Zimmerman’s favor.

Is it also totally normal to completely change your story THREE times?

Is it also totally normal to call the police just because you see a black person walking down the street who isn’t doing anything but walking?

Is it also totally normal to follow somebody for no reason like you’re crazy, just because they are in your neighborhood and you don’t even know if they live there or not?

Is it also totally normal to ignore the police’s request to not go after a person you are supposedly worried about?

Is it also totally normal to call the police over 40 times in the course of a year? Who does that? Really.

Is it also totally normal to lie and say that the person you confronted went for your gun, when they wouldn’t even know you had a gun unless you pulled it on them in the first place?

Is it also totally normal for a person who is just shot in the chest at close range to say “Oh, you got me.” with their arms up and just fall over and die. Yea, that’s how it happened. Mmmhmm.

Is it also totally normal to sit on top of somebody on their back, holding their arms down, when you just shot them dead and claimed YOU were the one defending yourself?

Is it also totally normal that they didn’t test Zimmerman for alcohol or drugs when he is actually the one who seems to be on something, as evidenced by his completely irrational behavior and changing stories?

Is it also totally normal for the police to not identify Trayvon Martin for over 3 days when they obviously had his cell phone, something anyone can do in 5 minutes?

Is it also totally normal for the police to believe the murderer’s side of the story at face value, especially when that murderer has a clear history of being violent towards the police force and other people and the victim in question actually has no police record?

George Zimmerman is a seasoned LIAR! He knows he fucked up. That is why the police wrote in his report that Zimmerman is lying, his story doesn’t add up, and that needs to be arrested. All of this only to be turned down by their superiors, letting Zimmerman essentially walk. The truth will come out. If you had ANY kind of common sense at all, which I’m sure you don’t like many people in this country has shown the past month, you will realize that there is no amount of stretching of the truth you can do to take the fault AWAY from Zimmerman. He caused EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING! In the end, it will all come down on his behavior, his actions, and the death of Trayvon will clearly be his fault. There is no other alternative. Any lawyer worth their salt will prove this in court easily. To say otherwise is to be an idiot.

        1) Zimmerman had no credible reason to call the police. Trayvon was walking home. He was not hopping fences, looking in car doors, or doing anything abnormal. He was WALKING HOME.

        2) Zimmerman obviously stretches his description of Trayvon to be something that he isn’t, to make the police feel like the call is more credible, saying he looks like he is on drugs and that he is “up to something”. Yea, what is that something? Walking home? To this day, he can’t explain why he called. You know why? Because he’s prejudiced and he’s trying to cover it up.

        3) All the evidence points that Zimmerman was the only one acting irrationally. He is the one with the paranoia making police calls at an abnormal rate. He is the one characterizing Trayvon on the phone clearly against what the actual truth is. He is the one who GOES AFTER Trayvon against police request, yet wants to claim self defense. He is the one who uses a gun instead of his hands. He is an irrational person. PERIOD.

        4) Trayvon’s phone call with his girlfriend proves that Zimmerman confronted Trayvon and started something. If any man was following me down the street, scaring me, I would defend myself as well and beat the living shit out of them SCARED FOR MY LIFE. Too bad Trayvon didn’t destroy Zimmerman, or he would be alive today. If anything, Trayvon could have beat the shit out of him out of fear and claimed self defense. That would have made more sense. You have somebody following you in their car for a while, then getting out to confront you and you’re supposed to not do anything? COME ON! How does Trayvon know he wasn’t going to be abducted or killed?

Watch somebody reply to this and ignore every point I’ve made and only pick on one thing. I dare anybody to go point by point of everything I just said and try to stretch the truth of this case in Zimmerman’s favor. No matter how you look at it, Zimmerman is at fault. He is the one who stereotyped Trayvon, lied to the cops about him, went after him, and did everything wrong that led to a confrontation and then an unequal amount of force that led to Trayvon’s death. He is at fault. The question is, how much time will he serve in jail? That is all it is at this point. He might be able to lie himself out of a life sentence, but he is going to serve time.

      3. Yeah but if i was going to commit a crime i wouldn’t call to tell on myself just before. just sayin…

      4. you obviously don’t live in usa, where that happens all the time. today i heard a call where a man literally calls the police and commits the crime on the phone, killing two people. yea, :T

    2. The lack of comments on this article is very telling. If that changes I’ll stand corrected. If it doesn’t fuck ya’ll.

      1. Did So Icy comment on this post? Where the hip hop heads at? My bad, this is about something that hits home so no one wants to talk

    3. Very true agree with you my brother. preach american’s need to wake up and realize this impacts us all & we need to make sure our voices are heard in this country so change can occur.

How many more injustices can we endure before people get up & get out to do something.

    4. The reality here is the world is a messed up place. Bad things happen to people everyday, and while racial profiling does play a factor, the reality is “everybody” can be a victim. Everybody profiles somebody else, whether they realize it or not. It’s not so much something you can fix because let’s face it. Would it have made a difference if a black person shot Trayvon? Of course not. What Zimmerman did was wrong, and he should pay, but not because of the color of his skin. That’s irrelevant and only incites more violence as a means of get back.

    5. I’ve lost focus on the actual crime now all I can think about is how does someone that looks so fucking Cuban it ain’t funny considered a cracker? what makes the dude a pussy ass cracker and not Barack Obama a pussy ass cracker? Obama went on a world apology tour and came back to reduce our military forces and didn’t bother to take any of the money out of the entitlement programs. The store down the road sells seafood and crab legs on EBT. While I have to eat ground beef to save money. Sorry, I started getting off subject a little bit. Lol

    6. If things are so baaaaaaad for the black man in America…why don’t they just leave???
Go back to the jungle and live nice…without the “cracker” pulling you over.
Why don’t they think about that instead of changing the system, rather change the location of your community?
      Sounds logical yes/no?

      1. WHERE THE WHITES WHO ARE SO TIRED OF THE RACE CARD NOW? THERE’S A RACIST REMARK, GO RESPOND!

        RIIIIIIIGHT

most of them here are Caucasian, even the cool “ghetto” looking comments. I’m sure you have seen the ones posted after you submitted yours.

    8. David Banner says it’s not about hoodies, that enough is enough, that we need to stand up and do something. Great. So what’s that?
