Dave Chappelle Questions DaBaby Being Canceled Over LGBTQ+ Comments – But Not For Murder

Dave Chappelle’s The Closer special hits Netflix on Tuesday (October 5) and TMZ got their hands on a clip that finds the comedy legend addressing the fallout from DaBaby‘s controversial comments he made at Rolling Loud Miami earlier this year.

Chappelle was puzzled people attempted to “cancel” DaBaby for his anti-LGBTQ+ comments when there was no outrage for the Charlotte rapper killing someone at a Walmart in 2018.

“A lot of the LGBTQ community doesn’t know about DaBaby’s history,” the comedian explained. “He once shot a n-gga and killed him in Walmart. Oh this is true, Google it. Nothing bad happened to his career. Do you see where I’m going with this? In our country, you can shoot and kill a n-gga, but you better not hurt a gay person’s feelings.”

DaBaby shot and killed a 19-year-old in a North Carolina Walmart in November of 2018, claiming the victim was attempting to rob him. The Ohio stalwart’s connection is a stretch considering DaBaby was cleared by investigators after it was ruled he acted in self-defense.

Following DaBaby’s homophobic Rolling Loud Miami rant, he was removed from the lineup of a handful of festivals including Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, Day N Vegas and more.

Dave Chappelle is staying busy ahead of his Netflix special and upcoming London tour. On Sunday (October 3), he popped up with Chris Rock to greet fans with an impromptu set to open Robert Glasper’s New York City show at Blue Note Jazz Club.

    1. A stretch? He took a life. Dave is saying how is taking a life less critical than being a homophobe? Neither is ok but his point is huge. DaBaby sucks even despite the homophobia.

    2. Because the killing was ruled legally justified? People should at the very least know what they are talking about before they speak out on something; Even Dave Chappelle, who is on point about most things he publicly speaks on.

      1. listen to what he said Sad, he said “You can SHOOOT AND KILL A N—“. he didn’t talk about the legal categorization of the killing, just the facts: Killing a black person will not get the same backlash as using a gay slur. and thats facts.

Unless you’re a cop, then it’s different for obvious reasons. its a violation of your basic responsibilities under the law.

        1. Cause why would you get hate for self defence?thats just dave trying to make a joke but i dont agree with it,can say the same thing about snoop dogg or gucci

      2. The family of the victim says dababy was out of line and basically murdered the dude but NO ONE CARES how they feel or that dababy is a dick head thug. All they care about is some random goofy ass shit he said on stage. No one cares that a family lost a loved one but they’re in a frenzy about a tasteless joke he made

      1. Yeah, they can. Or maybe you’ll be fine when someone calls you butthurt for getting upset about being called something racist.

        1. Getting upset after someone calls you a racial slur IS feelings-based bro….just admit it, Dave made a irrefutable, compelling point.

            1. Yes he did…but my point was that he couldn’t refute it without making a “feelings”-based argument, which he predictably did.

    3. Remember when they were trying to cancel rick ross cause he said something about a pill in a girls drink or something like that. It is the same shit. Officer ricky rapping about kilograms of narcotics that gets people killed but dudes get mad over a single pill he put in a ho drink. Shit is funny it is what it is

      1. Nah it ain’t it the same thing, cuz it ain’t about DaBaby rappin about killin n!&&@z – he actually did it lol

    4. Y’all wanna boycott the Oscar’s, black lives matter movement against police brutality but where where yall when DaBaby needed YOU‽ Black ppl scared of the gay community, what a JOKE!

    5. 100% agree. I got nothing against gay people but sensitive people can all go to hell. Stop trying to shove your personal upbringing down everyone elses throat. If the gays wanna stand up, they can speak for themselves. Some gays be in the military and can whoop a rappers ass. They dont need snowflakes trying to speak for them.

    6. And here comes Dave, late to the party to stir shit up again.
I mean he’s right (tho it wasn’t just about ‘hurting people’s feelings’).
The problem is, especially with the dismissive ‘feelings’ comment, that people will take it as a go ahead to talk shit about gay people instead of stop killing black people. Bigotry comes in all colours and people prefer to hate together than find peace with each other.

    7. Do remember that hip-hop, for the most part, conveys ignorance and ill-behavior. This is the first time a comedian has pointed out the BS that we partake in. I remember Chris Rock stating that in certain places of the Black community you can get more respect for going to jail than for going to college. Anyway, as a rapper if you shoot someone it generally only helps your career. If Da Baby had shot this man upon album release he’d have sold more than Country Grammar.

    8. Did people realize that they are pulling headlines from a comic making jokes? People going to take it seriously like it was a Ted Talk…
