Dave Chappelle was in good spirits on Tuesday night (May 3) at the Pendry Hotel in West Hollywood despite being attacked mid-set at The Hollywood Bowl just hours prior. The famed comedian was on deck at the “Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival” when an armed man, later identified as 23-year-old Isaiah Lee, charged him.
Security swiftly swarmed Lee and he was delivered a proper beatdown that resulted in a possibly broken arm, swollen eye, bloody nose and bruises all over his body. In audio obtained by TMZ, Chappelle praised friends such as Busta Rhymes, Jamie Foxx and fellow comedian Jon Stewart for handling Lee.
“I watched em get kicked around, and I couldn’t believe it was my friends ’cause it’s so good what they do […] I felt good my friends broke his arm. I felt good, how bad does a n-gga have to be that Jon Stewart would stomp him! […] I’m very proud of them. Killing that n-gga would have been stupid. Those are very powerful friends and I’m sharing [this night] with people I love very much.”
It’s unclear why Lee decided to attack Chappelle that night. An aspiring rapper who goes by NoName Trapper, Lee actually has a song on Spotify named after the 48-year-old comedian, so it’s possible he’s a deranged fan possibly looking for attention. He does have a sizable following on Instagram, with around 32,000 people, as well as over 5,700 monthly Spotify listeners.
After receiving medical treatment, Lee was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon and booked into Los Angeles County jail with bail set at $30,000.
Chappelle, who was uninjured during the chaos, was shaken up but continued with his evening. Fellow comedian Chris Rock, one of many special guests, joined Chappelle onstage after the attack and asked, “Was that Will Smith?” The wisecrack marked the first time Rock publicly joked about getting smacked by Smith during the 94th Annual Academy Awards on March 27.
Better hope those statements don’t haunt his friends as they are not security and could potentially be sued if they were doing this when he could no longer being deemed a threat ??♂️
Because they put hands and feet on someone that was armed and stormed the stage? I highly doubt it. Just look at all the great work their DA has done for actual criminals.
This guy should meet swift justice for that unprovoked attack on Dave. In a way he already did but his incident should be used to introduce more changes to tighten up security at these venues.
Dude really tried to pull a Travis Scott(satanic ritual) on the only dude who ain’t afraid to speak up
you should always show compassion toward your fellow man.
Funniest comment on here, this has to be sarcasm right?
Never boast or celebrate violence in any form. Be humble n move on
Nawwww, the dude didn’t die and the problem with people now a days is they think you can do and say crazy stuff with no repercussions. It felt like Karma had been on vacation for the last decade so it’s good to see someone who tried paying a bill with ignorance getting their change back
Wake up Chappelle. You used to be funny, now you’re just insulting. Don’t end up like 40 Glocc….where there can be another one and another one after that, son.
He used to be funny? When did he stop? You’ve had people run up on stage with hardcore rappers and didn’t get beat down like that. He got that beat down cause he tried laying hands on the Goat.
Exactly
@Emzino If you’re too sensitive to take a joke, than go to north Korea where there are no jokes. Everyone can be laughed at except one obvious community. Dave makes jokes about them to prove they’re not better than anyone else/ have immunity to jokes. The moment they except that reality is the moment he’ll stop joking about them
Fuck that, all these clowns with their little “jokes” deserve a serious beat down. Same for all you little fuckboys defending that shit. Go out and run your mouth to a grown ass man and see what happens. You’ll be picking your teeth up off the ground. The moment you except that reality is the moment you won’t get your ass whooped. Punk ass little pissboy fucking DIE!!!!!!!
Coming from bitch made like u… I can tell u have zero sense of humor… u won’t do shit… ya can even beat a fly. Pusssy
U need to get ur bitch ass stomped. U prob beat ur girl to. Comedy is about jokes, if u can’t handle a joke don’t sign up to be dissed and sit in the front row. Will is a pussy and would never do it to the other 10 people who talked shit about him that night., Chris rock was the only smaller old dude, and he picked on the one that wouldn’t do anything back.
I agree with you Dave went to far These comedians think just because they tell jokes that doesn’t hurt peoples feelings but when someone reacts in a Negative way they’re quick to point Fingers at the other person instead of their selves stop talking bad about people without their permission or OK His paybacks come come just watch and everybody who was in the falt in that beating
Dave wasn’t wishing ill on the attacker so much as he was expressing love for the people who had his back in a very real situation. I’m sure he was happy with them kicking this dude in his metaphorical pussy, but that’s because he violated one of the most basic of rules we have in society – keep your hands to yourself, or get dealt with accordingly. Fuck a bunch of “hurt feelings” and all that other nonsense you’re on. The individual is who’s responsible for the state of their emotions, not everyone else. Feelings < Actions. Grow the fuck up.
Shut yo Goofy Azz up!!
smh
It’s OK. Nothing happened to the Fresh Prince….
Eddie: Man…Rick really needs some help.
Charlie: We just gave him some help!
