Dave Chappelle Attacker Reveals What ‘Triggered’ Him At Hollywood Bowl

The 23-year-old man who attacked Dave Chappelle mid-set at The Hollywood Bowl on May 6, Isaiah Lee, is speaking out about what motivated him to tackle the comedian. In an interview with the New York Post, Lee admitted he was offended by a joke Chappelle made about the LGBTQ+ community.

“I identify as bisexual, and I wanted him to know what he said was triggering,” Lee said from the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles. “I wanted him to know that next time, he should consider first running his material by people it could affect.”

Lee, who was once homeless, added he was also triggered by another joke Chappelle dolled out about homelessness, explaining, “I’m also a single dad and my son is five. It’s a struggle and I wanted Dave Chappelle to know it’s not a joke.”

But the final straw was something Chappelle said about pedophilia, which Lee said dredged up memories of the molestation he experienced as a teen. Lee admitted he was carrying a replica handgun with a retractable knife inside the night of the attack but denied having it on him when he bulldozed the illustrious comic.

Dave Chappelle Attacker Denied Release From Los Angeles Jail

Lee was charged with four misdemeanors: battery, possession of a weapon with intent to assault, gaining unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance and commission of an act that delays an event or interferes with a performer.

But on Thursday (May 19), Lee was hit with a much more serious charge unrelated to the case — attempted murder. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said Lee stabbed his ex-roommate in December 2021, which wasn’t unveiled to the public until the Chappelle incident. As D.A. George Gascón explained, “The publicity generated by the attack on Mr. Chappelle helped police solve this crime.”

    1. So being gay was his trigger. That’s fucking stupid. That ass whooping he got was justified definitely.

    2. Shit excuses, if you got to a comedy show there will be jokes not to everybody’s liking no excuse to attack the performer. Just don’t go and pay to watch if you feel that way about a performer.

    3. Got his ass beat good for it, didn’t he? Thin skin, don’t go to a comedy show. Dude found every reason to enact harm, none to just leave.

    4. Guarantee Chappelle said a load of other offensive stuff that was fine until he said something that upset this dude personally. So many people happy to ignore offensive jokes until they hear one they feel applies to them. As if a comedian is going to run their material by people it could affect, they wouldn’t have a show!!

    5. This sideshow phony is gonna need to get his sensitivity in check real quick while he sits his remedial ass in prison. Nobody trying to hear this bullshit.

    6. See? the attacker was a colored, liberal democrat voter. These people who demand others tolerate their perversions, are so intolerant of opposing views that they resort to violence to try to silence others. Also i hate Trump the zi0nist piece of shit, i hate republicans and democrats all the same because they both worship the small hats and bend over for lsrael.

      1. Stfu lol, dude was/is probably on drugs and obviously mentally unstable hence his chosen course of action. If the above ignorance is indicative of your comprehension of politics as well as social issues then please keep that shit to yourself and whomever else allows you to speak nonsense like that out loud.
