Dame Dash Claims JAY-Z Was Bitter About Him Dating Aaliyah: ‘He Was Courting Her’

Dame Dash has opened up about JAY-Z‘s alleged bitterness toward him dating Aaliyah while Hov was also trying to court the late singer.

The Roc-A-Fella co-founder joined the That’s F***ed Up Podcast earlier this week where he reflected on meeting Aaliyah and going on to date Baby Girl while Jay was also interested.

“I just threw my A-game and I guess Jay was trying to get at her as well and I didn’t know,” he explained. “Then it got brought up and I was like, ‘Fuck both of y’all.’ It never worked out for them and we were both trying to get at her. I eased up and then we ran into each other.

“Everybody was getting at Aaliyah, bro. She’ll go to dinner with a n-gga but she wasn’t just gonna be smashing. So that was like the big deal — who could get with Aaliyah.”

    Watch the clip below:

One of the co-hosts then interjected to ask Dame if Hov was “bitter” about him winning out with Aaliyah: “Obviously,” Dame replied. “Yeah, he felt a way.”

Dame Dash went on to detail how JAY-Z was also courting Aaliyah but it came to a head at a July 4 party in 2000 where all three were in attendance but Dame ended up hooking up with the “One In A Million” singer.

“He was sending flowers and doing all that shit — he was courting her,” Dame added. “So we were both going hard and we ended up in the same house Fourth of July. It was like one day it might lean toward him, then it would lean toward me.

“I was just on fire that week. Everything I was saying was funny. I remember coming down after it happened and he was like, ‘You know this gonna be hard for me.’ His friends were laughing at him and shit.”

Dame and Aaliyah met through having the same accountant in 2000 and eventually started dating until her tragic death in August 2001 due to a plane crash in The Bahamas.

Dash reflected on the Princess of R&B’s death on the 20th anniversary of her passing in 2021.

“I was reflecting [that] there hasn’t been one day since she’s passed, not one in the 20 years, that I haven’t either heard her name, heard her record, or seen a picture of her,” he told ET. “Every single day she’s present in my life and I feel lucky for that.”

    1. Alls well that ends well..Dame is with his wife, Jay went and got Beyoncé, and…dang Aaliyah died…but Jay had nothing to do with that I’m sure! He’s not one of those guys where strange things happen to the people who have wronged him…

      1. Yup, Jay-Z went on to Beyonce when she was a minor too. All those guys wanted to jump Aliyah and didn’t care that she was a minor. Jay-Z did the same thing as R Kelly (except he didnt marry Bee). The only difference is nobody really looked into it, like they did with Aliyah. R Kelly’s manager should have went to jail too for giving her a fake ID. They manipulated these poor girls.when they’re young.

    2. Lol Dame so bitter after all these years. The thing is he had his chance, when they split he was worth 100 million+. Jay ain’t force him to try and make movies and open art galleries and all that shit. Currensy, Jim Jones, Beanie Sigel, etc have all said Dame moves funny in business too. Now he’s doing interviews speaking on a woman who died 20+ years ago, just to shade Jay again? What are we in high school?

    3. Hello sex offender r. Kelly. He liked young aliyah. Child sex offender r. Kelly. He in jail the rest of his life. He going to die in that place.

    4. So he finally said it. Everybody knows that’s why Roc-a-Fella broke up, and Dame ended up with nothing because she died, and then Jay-Z went on to be even bigger without him. It’s why all of the R. Kelly slander is hillarrious coming from industry dudes since all of them knew that girl when she was 13 and couldn’t wait to fuck or probably maybe even did when she was underaged too. Dame need to let that shit go though. He’s never going to fuck with you again. It’s been 20 years.
