DaBaby gets put in the hot seat in the premiere episode of UPROXX’s brand new series Sound Check.

Hosted by HipHopDX‘s own Jeremy Hecht, the quickfire round show challenges guests to choose between two songs from some of their favorite artists, shedding light on their musical tastes and influences while uncovering never-before-heard stories from their early lives and careers.

In the first episode, which premiered on Wednesday (March 19), DaBaby is forced to make some tough decisions as he’s asked to pick either Fat Joe‘s “Lean Back” or Mary J. Blige‘s “Family Affair,” Eminem‘s “Till I Collapse” or 2Pac‘s “All Eyez On Me,” and Snoop Dogg‘s “Drop It Like It’s Hot” or Future‘s “Mask Off,” among others.

The most “stressful” moment, however, comes when the North Carolina-bred rap star is presented with defining hits from two of his favorite rappers: “Ride Wit Me” by Nelly and “In Da Club” by 50 Cent.

“Now why the fuck would you do that?” DaBaby jokingly asks Jeremy while struggling to pick a winner. “Nelly ‘Ride Wit Me’ is… but 50 Cent ‘In Da Club’? Trying to hang upside down in the living room with the durag on and the wife beater? Oh my God. Both of them have been my favorite rappers for an extended period of time.”

Ultimately, the “Suge” MC couldn’t separate the two songs and uses his sole lifeline to call it a tie.

Later in the episode, the spotlight is turned on DaBaby’s own catalog as he is asked which was more difficult to write between “In a Minute” and the intro to his 2017 album KIRK, two of his most heartfelt tracks.

“I’ma go ‘Intro,'” he answers. “I made that when my father passed and when I first popped as a mainstream artist. ‘In a Minute’ was more therapeutic — both of them were therapeutic — but ‘In a Minute’ was more reflective, like me just sitting back and looking at my journey, just really analyzing the obstacles I’ve navigated through and how I’m still here.”

In the final round, Jeremy flips the script and must guess DaBaby’s “lifetime anthem” between a song he had previously written down and a decoy track selected by producers.

Is it Nas‘ “The World Is Yours” or Mark Morrison‘s “Return of the Mack”? Watch the episode below to see if Jeremy guessed right.
