Craig Mack Denounces Rap, “Wickedness” In Unearthed Video

Craig Mack, a former rapper on Diddy’s Bad Boy Entertainment, has denounced Rap and “wickedness” in an unearthed video from May 2012.

In the video, Mack talks about his past as a rapper.

“My name is Craig Mack,” the “Flavor In Ya Ear” rapper says in the clip. When asked what he used to do, Mack says, “wickedness and Rap.” When asked what he is doing now, he says, “righteousness.”

Craig Mack has been absent from the Hip Hop scene after attaining success in the 1990s. Mack’s 1994 single, “Flavor In Ya Ear,” went platinum. The track’s remix included verses from The Notorious B.I.G., Busta Rhymes, Rampage and LL Cool J. The follow-up single from his Project: Funk Da World album, “Get Down,” went gold. Mack’s second album, Operation: Get Down, did not match the commercial success of its predecessor.

The unearthed footage of Mack features Pastor Ralph Gordon Stair, a controversial religious leader who is said to preach that the end of the world is near. Stair, the leader of the Overcomer Ministry Community, has had legal troubles over the years, according to a 2007 report by The Post and Courier

Stair reportedly made “an involuntary and partial disclosure regarding sexual battery against several young adult women who were ‘Stair believers,'” according to a State Law Enforcement Division case file in the report. Stair has reportedly served 77 days in jail for charges of assault and battery. Stair also addressed allegations of adultery in the report. “I’ll tell you what happened,” Stair said in the Courier story. “I committed adultery with two women here and I went to the people and apologized.”

Overcomer Ministry Community is reportedly a group of people led by Stair who live in a secluded environment near Walterboro, South Carolina, where members grow their own food and make their own clothes. Mack is believed to be a part of this community now. The uploader of the video, a YouTube user named tlink1463, says he filmed the clip shown above and that Mack was still “going (strong)” as of January 2013.

Mack is one of several former Bad Boy artists to make his religious views more prominent since leaving the label. After success in the late 1990s and early 2000s with the imprint, Ma$e became a pastor and had a haitus from Hip Hop to focus on his Christianity and religious work. In 2009, Loon converted to Islam and changed his name to Amir Junaid Muhadith. In December 2011, Shyne spoke about his conversion to Judaism and its effects on his music.
